Northgate House is a grade 2 listed building and was built in 1800. Its famous for being built above the original city jail! It's heritage and positioning within the city is outstanding. Its two neighbours are extremely unique, on one side you have the Roman city walls and on the other is the Shropshire union canal. You can see the canal from every window on the north west side of the building. If you look at the windows at the back of the building from the bedroom you can see the hills and mountains of Wales and the canal and all its boats. The front of the building is on Upper Northgate street. There is a piano room with a large bay window which you can sit in admiring one of the roman bridges as part of the city walls with a cup of tea! Some other great features are paintings/ornaments that are over 100 years old placed their by the original settlers.

The property comes with lots of books and trinkets on Chesters history. The building has been in the family for many years and is now open for the public to enjoy. It is THE MOST unique stay in Chester.

The Garden is beautiful with a water feature and a nice sitting area. You can walk above the canal or below the walls. The property has off road parking for 4/5 cars.

We have lots of tourist attractions and leaflets for local guided tours and much more!

Great location and interesting place, but there were some issues
We loved the location, but the communication with the host was lacking. We did not get the check-in instructions until 9:30 pm the night before, and that was only because we messaged the host, reminding him that we were supposed to get the instructions that day. also, we did not realize that the downstairs did not have a full bath, even though there is a bedroom. We could not get the bathtub upstairs to drain.

Great Spot on the Chester Wall
My family and I stayed for just a few nights at the beginning of the week at this lovely historic home built next to the outside of the wall at Chester. The home was very comfortable and made getting around the heart of Chester very easy. The rooms were well taken care of, plenty of space and large kitchen. Due to our travel plans we did try to arrange an earlier arrival but were not able to get a response from the property manager(this home is being managed by a property company). There were a few amenities that did not work and even though advertised, there is not a clothes dryer. There was some noise from the night life in the area near by, but it only noticed at the front of the house and did not cause any issues when it was time to sleep. Overall we enjoyed it very much!

Outstanding historic property in an ideal location
It was a great privilege to stay in this beautiful house. The location couldn't have been better, and there was even parking. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and could not believe our luck, as the price was very reasonable. Despite being a historic property, it is wonderfully maintained and comfortable. Appliances etc worked well, and it was very warm and cosy. The kitchen, lounge, and dining room were all very generous size for our party of six. Details were available for everything we might need to know. The garden looked beautiful and there is a terrace over the canal, which I'm sure would be delightful in good weather. Though the property does not claim to be fully accessible, it is more disabled-friendly than most homes. The stairlift was useful. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor, and there's a ground floor toilet. The ground floor is easy to navigate, with just one step down into the kitchen which leads to the lounge. A variety of chairs in all the rooms means there is likely to be a comfortable chair to suit most needs. Parents of impulsive young children would find it hard to relax here. Unlike most holiday houses, there are antiques and fragile ornaments everywhere in this house, so you'd need to supervise very closely. We didn't investigate the garden properly, but I imagine it might be risky for small children, being perched high above the canal. Anyway, it suited us down to the ground. My relatives visiting from abroad were thrilled.
