About this property

Unashamedly the best holiday home in Chester

Unashamedly the best holiday home in Chester. Edgar House is perched atop the historic Roman Walls and offers breath-taking views of the majestic River Dee from luxurious comfort. The renowned travel writer Alistair Sawday once described the vantage point of Edgar House as “Chester’s equivalent of the Royal Box”.
This stunning riverside residence marries traditional architecture with bold contemporary design and modern comfort. 7 stunning en-suite bedrooms allow 16 guests to enjoy the luxury of Edgar House. Fun is ensured with the fabulous open plan kitchen, dining and living space that is perfect for entertaining, with the separate games room (air hockey, table football, darts and a juke box) and cinema room providing even more incredible social spaces.

Surrounded by numerous bars, restaurants, cafés, shops, the renowned racecourse, and Grosvenor Park, all within easy walking distance. With its ample space and self-catering facilities, Edgar House is an ideal choice for a memorable getaway for a family of 16.

Edgar House’s modern kitchen is gorgeous and very well equipped. However, if you don’t feel like cooking we can recommend some of Chester’s best restaurants or introduce you to one of our amazing private chefs who will cook up a treat for you “at home” at Edgar!

For quieter nights in, relax in the cosy library / snug or enjoy a night at the movies in the wonderful cinema room, which is equipped with Sky, BT sport and internet connection for streaming your favourite films from your Netflix or Amazon account.

The 7 bedrooms at Edgar House have been meticulously designed to provide a luxurious retreat after the day’s excursions. Each room is uniquely decorated and can be customized to meet your preferences, thanks to the option of super kings or zip-links. For added convenience, there are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, ideal for multi-generational families or individuals with limited mobility.

On the upper floor, 2 rooms offer access to balconies, providing stunning views of the river and a perfect spot to savour your morning coffee. All bedrooms come with en-suite facilities, and the Copper Suite boasts a magnificent copper bath that is truly exceptional.

During the summer season, guests can enjoy dining outdoors on Edgar's magnificent patio overlooking the river, with ample seating for al fresco dining or sunset drinks, while listening to the gentle flow of the river Dee over the tidal weir.

Choosing to stay at Edgar House allows you to leave your car parked and take leisurely strolls along the picturesque River Dee or explore the charming city of Chester, renowned for its well-preserved original town walls and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain. If you're up for some wildlife adventure, Chester Zoo is just a short drive away. For those seeking a glimpse of Wales, Snowdonia and the Welsh coastline are within reach. Make your holiday extra special

There isn’t much we can’t do to help make your stay special. For an additional fee and with enough notice we can arrange a private chef, wine tasting, cheese tasting, in-house spa treatments and hair dressing, canapés and house decoration.

We partner with a number of local chefs all of whom are well known to us and whom can create extraordinary dining experiences for any occasion. From eight-course tasting menus to cheeky cocktail canapés, our recommended partners are on-hand to discuss options, menus, table decorations, arrival drinks, wine and fizz selections and anything else needed to ensure your occasion is perfect in every way.

If you’d like your dinner made easy, don’t want to go out and don’t feel like cooking, we recommend choosing homemade food delivery. Freshly prepared for you to enjoy – British, Spanish and Italian cuisine.

Fancy delicious freshly baked pastries with morning coffee? Then we suggest you order from one of our renowned bakehouses where all pastries and sourdough loaves are made on site at the artisan micro bakeries. Place your pastry box (or boxes!) and bread order which will be biked over to the Edgar House on a Saturday morning.

We can also arrange for you and your guests to have an Italian cookery course at the house lead by our renowned Italian chef, suitable for our adult and younger guests. This popular ‘extra’ will be educational, fun and extremely tasty.

For our younger guests we will arrange delightfully themed magical sleepovers with individual tepees, twinkling lights, balloons, lanterns along with themed breakfast trays for each child. Suitable for children aged 3 – 12 years, with themes such as, ‘In The Wild’ (perfect after a day our at Chester’s world-famous zoo!), the enchanting ‘I Believe in Unicorns’, or ‘Rose Gold’, for some ‘grown up glamour’.

The team’s ‘izzy whizzy’ clear up the following day, making this kiddy’s sleepover party a breeze for the adults too. Pastel-Coloured Bouncy Castle, out on the lawn, whilst the adults watch on and enjoy the riverside setting, is a fine way for the whole family to celebrate a summer garden party.
Chester
Chester, located in the North-West of England, has rightfully earned the title of 'the jewel'. What makes this city truly captivating is the fact that it showcases evidence from every era of history within a small area. From the ancient Roman walls and amphitheatre, to medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses, Georgian terraces, Victorian restorations, and even 21st century architecture, Chester is a living testament to the past.

For guests, Chester offers a plethora of attractions. The famous Tudor 'Rows' provide excellent shopping opportunities, while leisurely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee, and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park offer a chance to soak in the city's beauty. Don't miss the chance to explore the stunning medieval cathedral or experience the excitement of Chester Racecourse. Additionally, a visit to the world-renowned Chester Zoo is a must.

If you have the time to venture further, you'll be rewarded with the breath-taking Welsh mountains and coastline, as well as the charming market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula, which boasts top-notch golf courses. Thanks to frequent rail services, Liverpool, Manchester, and the North Wales coast are easily accessible from Chester.
