The property location was ideal. Beautiful spot. Although the host was very nice, she stayed on the property. In addition, there are no window treatments for privacy. We prefer to not have the host remain on the property and would not consider renting again because of this.

Lovely location. Tired cottage
Enjoyed the location. Did not enjoy the ants in bathroom and kitchen also found cottage to be dirty and buggy inside and out. Owners possessions were in closet area. Owners was also on site in adjacent apartment on property. Probably would not go back unless issues above changed. Did enjoy the lake view

Eclectic Experience
Property & Location are outstanding. Host/Owner resides in apt above garage when when rented which made for some awkward moments. Based on previous reviews, we knew what to expect. Very limited closet space & parking. We also were familiar w/location of property as we lived in area for 30+ yrs. We likened our stay as if we were staying in "Aunt Harriet's house". Overall, very enjoyable experience. Thank you Cathleen & Mac.

Beautiful View of the Lake
Charming old cottage but a strange stay. The owners lived on premise and left all of their possessions in the rental. There was no dresser in the bedroom, closets filled with their clothes, all drawers and cabinets filled with their things. No room to unpack clothing, no kitchen shelf space for groceries. Hoarders with lots of old, old stuff.

Nice property but bad experience
Great property right on the lake, but there’s no fence between the yard and the lake, so not exactly child or dog friendly. Property was undergoing construction while we stayed there, so it was very loud with lots of people coming through, so no privacy for our small kids and had our dogs on edge. Owner was on site in the apartment above the garage. She was helpful and tried to make our stay better, but if we knew it was under construction we would have never stayed here.

Never stay here again!
Although the location was nice the property was not. The owner told me that the lake was not drained near the house, but it was. The dock in the online picture shows a white gate but in reality, there is no gate. So, if a child was out there unattended, they could potentially fall off the dock down about 10 ft to rocks or if the water was at level drown. The boat house has a deck on top, but the railings were falling over and there was a hold in the roof. Not safe to go up on. The master bedrooms closet was packed with owner's stuff leaving very little space for our things. The upstairs rooms were poorly heated. The refrigerator and freezer were clean out for our food but there were no cabinets in the kitchen for our dry foods. One cabinet has an open bag of potato chips and crackers.
Overall, it was as if you went to a complete stranger's home, and they just left for a weekend leaving everything they own as is and you had to jockey around their stuff. Did not feel like a "Vacation Rental." My big concern was would the owner come back and accuse us of doing something because EVERYTHING THEY OWN was accessible to us.
It was nice they allowed pets, but I would never stay here again.
Cathleen provided the perfect escape for my family of 4 + fur baby. The house was well stocked and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the huge back porch and yard. The dock was great for fishing and provided my son the opportunity to catch a very large bass. We would love to come back here again!
A very enjoyable and relaxing stay at Cathleen’s property. Lovely location and great proximity to everything in Lake Oswego. Cathleen was helpful throughout the arrangements and the property is a charming home.

Classic Lakeside Bungalow
The location was perfect for our needs. Plenty of room for the four of us. Loved being on the lake and having fires in the outdoor fireplace on chilly evenings. We had everything we needed for the week, but would have appreciated some drawers, closet space and clearer house instructions, such as what was expected of us on departure. The interior was clean and the bungalow has retained it's charm, but the photos of the exterior were taken some time ago and should be updated. I would not recommend for children as there are many knickknacks and personal items throughout the house.
If you are looking for a hotel-like experience, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to eat breakfast on a deck overlooking a beautiful lake with $5 million+ homes, have a 75 foot long dock from which you can launch paddle boards, and make S'mores in an outdoor fireplace, this might be it.
The house is almost 100 years old, lodge-style, clearly built as a weekender for an affluent Portland family in the Roaring '20s. It has been upgraded to an extent, but it has the feel and charm (and some of the issues) of its age.
But it has everything you need and then some. It's right on the lake, so expect to brush away some spider webs and some debris from the 125' douglas Firs.
We stayed for a full week. Cathleen is a dear, and was very communicative. Yes, I'd stay there again.

Cozy lakefront retreat with great proximity to city
My wife and I had a terrific time exploring Portland and the PNW with this as our home base. Lake Oswego is lovely, there are plenty of restaurants, and great proximity to the city. Right off the bat, know that this is a home and not a rental, the house is well lived in and the owner's things are in all the cabinets and closets so if you're there for an extended period of time, you won't have much space for your stuff. I think the spider presence is a little understated in the description and reviews, but when we asked something to be done about it, someone did come and clean which was much appreciated and made a huge difference. The dryer also will randomly stop drying because it thinks the lint trap is disconnected. Mostly just minor stuff, but overall it was a great stay.
Home not commensurate with other homes on the lake
Not well maintained home. Yard covered in geese faeces issue with my dog. Left property after 3 nights. Had paid for 14. Homeowner unwilling to acknowledge problem and did not refund me. Many issues, unstable floorboards in bedroom,- covered with cardboard, mold in bathroom, deck covered in geese excrement/potential hoarding/fire hazard, washer/dryer in a cellar with precarious steps down. Marketing a lake home in a very good area but property is completely misrepresented and owner is only interested in income. Very unfriendly and resides in second unit on property when renting the other space. Yard had probably not been maintained entire winter. Will never use VRBO again!!!
We really enjoyed our stay as a family of four over the holidays. The large family/living/dining room overlooking the lake is a special place and was just beautiful with fresh snow on the ground. Nice kitchen and cozy bedrooms. Responsive owners. Recommend for those looking for a comfortable lakeside stay at a reasonable rate.
We spent a lovely week in the quaint, cozy and peaceful home on the lake with a beautiful 14' xmas tree which added ambience for the season. Although it rained the whole time it was still amazing to gaze at the lake while staying warm and comfy inside with the large fireplace. Perfect for rest and relaxation which was just what we needed. Charming & full of character with nice hosts it was ideal for us.
We spent eight days at this beautiful cottage and enjoyed every minute. The house is well stocked with cooking supplies and equipment. Since our nearby family visited often, we really enjoyed the plentiful seating, inside and out, and the backyard on the lake. The lake view is amazing. We would definitely stay again.
We loved staying at Cathleen’s cottage while in Lake Oswego. It is exactly as pictured, and you can’t beat the location right on the lake! Easy communication with Cathleen throughout (they even brought us a new toaster when the old one went out!). We were very comfortable for our week long stay. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
We thoroughly soaked up every minute of our stay in this unique, restful, beautiful, and rustic bungalow! From the beautifully fall decorated entrance, to the wrap around porch that allows stunning lake front views, to the pine trees whispering in the wind, our stay felt like a true visit home! We will definitely come back again!!!💕💕💕
We loved our stay in this charming original cottage on Lake Oswego. It was perfect and the owners were some of the best people we've come to know. Everything was as described, even with all the 2020 mishaps of covid-19, once in a 100 hundred year wind storms and fires resulting, in the great state of Oregon. We would love to come back and enjoy another 2 week stay. We would recommend this property for a true Lake Oswego experience on the lake. Very relaxing! Wonderful owners! Beautiful views!
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Cathleen's adorable cottage while visiting my two adult sons, who live in Lake Oswego. Her cottage was perfect in every way for our family. Lots of lake activities, a well-stocked kitchen, comfy beds and beautiful lake views from the lake front porch. We enjoyed long walks with the dog through the beautiful surrounding neighborhoods and sunset paddle boarding down the winding canals. Truly a memorable trip and hope to stay there again on our next trip up to Oregon.
This place was exactly what I was looking for! I was alone and wanted a quiet small home on the lake. It was my first time in Lake Oswego and staying at this beautiful home was a bonus! There were paddle boards, a fire pit, and a comfy hammock to take in the views.Thank you Cathleen and Mark!

About the host
Hosted by Cathleen Walker
I am a realtor that works in Lake Oswego and North/Northeast Portland. My daughter grew up in this home and now my grandchildren enjoy it. This is a house for kids and dogs or a quiet adult getaway. It is not the Taj Mahal but a cozy 1927 bungalow. You won't be disappointed.
Why they chose this property
We are main lake on Oswego Lake. We have a dock across the front of the property and supply paddle boards, life jackets and other toys for playing in the lake.
What makes this property unique
This house was built in 1927 and while the bathrooms and kitchen are updated, we have kept the original charm of the home. Our kitchen is well-stocked with everything you need. No need to buy salt or flour or other basic ingredients to cook. As I state in the description this is not the Taj Mahal. If you are thinking stucco luxury you are in the wrong spot. We are cozy., comfortable and clean. We have great linens, access to T.V. and super-fast internet. Yes, the closet space is limited and yes this is our personal home. We rent it out to help pay the horrendous taxes and to share what we have at a very reasonable rate.
