About this property
Place Farm Cabin - One Bedroom House, Sleeps 2
Nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park, this delightful stand-alone cabin sits within its own wildflower meadow and orchard, just 2 miles from the historic market town of Okehampton. It is ideally placed to experience the highest and wildest part of the moor, whilst also being conveniently situated near the A30, providing easy access to the charming city of Exeter or to head further south to explore the delights of Cornwall. For cycling enthusiasts, the cabin is perfect for easy access to the Granite Way, and for hikers, you can head off to explore the surrounding tors with their breath-taking panoramic views. Okehampton itself boasts a wealth of amenities, featuring many charming independent shops and delicatessens, a variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes, as well as supermarkets and the Museum of Dartmoor Life. Within a 20-mile radius, an array of attractions awaits, including Lydford Gorge, Roadford Lake, Meldon Reservoir and Viaduct, the historic Okehampton Castle, Castle Drogo and numerous pretty Dartmoor villages.
Stepping inside this stunning countryside cabin, you’ll pass through the opening porch to discover a perfectly designed interior with furniture that has been skilfully handcrafted by the owners, making it truly unique. Whilst being open plan, the space feels cosy and inviting with the flow of exposed beams, a log burner and a flagstone floor, which benefits from underfloor heating. The lounge area has a comfortable chesterfield sofa to relax on after a day of exploring, whilst gazing across the surrounding hillsides to the front of the cabin and listening to the crackle of logs on the fire. The well-appointed kitchen boasts all the essentials for preparing fresh ingredients sourced from one of the many local farmer’s markets. In the sleeping area you will find a lovely handcrafted king-size bed and adjoining en-suite with shower and WC.
To the rear of the cabin there are steps leading to a private raised patio area, from which you can enjoy an al-fresco breakfast, a tasty BBQ and a relaxing evening tipple. There is also a sheltered space here for those breezier days, and a gateway out onto the large, enclosed field for morning walks, where you might sometimes be joined by our friendly, woolly, four-legged friends! To the front of the cabin, you will find further seating allowing you to enjoy the fresh outdoors amongst an orchard style open garden area, with wildflower meadow and a path throughout. Plenty of options to explore the space with that morning cuppa.
