About this property

House of W - Cementine

House of W is a C16th palazzino forming part of the former private residence of Grandmaster Alof de Wignacourt when still Captain of Valletta. Converted in 2022 following meticulous renovation, House of W now offers 5 exquisite apartments, each unique and finished to the highest standards of comfort. The original character and features of the building have been restored to blend with a mix of antique and vintage pieces, art and luxurious furnishings, offering an eclectic yet elegant ensemble.
This suite is named after the original encaustic or inlaid cement tiles that adorn the floor of this double height suite.
Laid down in the early 1900’s, the playful hues of the tiles set the tone for the eclectic décor; here authentic vintage furniture and fittings and original art pieces are juxtaposed against the exposed stone slab ceiling of the 16th century building. This 5m high duplex is illuminated by 2 large windows which overlook the internal courtyard.
On the lower level is a large living area with kitchenette and dining space. A small indoor terrace overlooking the internal courtyard is tucked away outside your suite, offering the ideal spot for breakfast or an evening aperitif.
On the upper level, the suspended bedroom adjoins an en-suite marble bathroom with walk-in shower, underfloor heating and heated towel rail.
Other amenities include:
- King Size Bed [165x200] with Italian memory-foam mattress
- Luxury Egyptian Cotton towels and Bed Linen
- L'Occitane bathroom amenities
- Kitchenette with combi-oven, electric hob and small fridge freezer.
- Nespresso Machine with recyclable pods
- High-speed (1000Mbps) WIFI.
- 45 inch smart TV with access to Netflix, Prime, and over 10,000 free to air channels.
- A library of on demand movies and free live sports are also available (your Netflix or prime account is required to access these features).
Location:
- Situated in a quiet, yet central location, with views of the Church dome and rooftops.
- Within minutes’ walk of museums, cafes & shops, and theatre, as well as from the main bus terminus and sea ferries.
- Just metres from the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
- Offers free on-street parking.
Guests have access to the full apartment on an exclusive basis, and the central courtyard as well as the staircase and lift that serves all suites.
We are available for anything you need and offer 24/7 emergency back up. Should you wish additional cleaning services or fresh towels and sheets during your stay these can be requested at an extra charge
Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour.
Started in 1566, Valletta with its impressive bastions, forts and cathedral, was completed in the astonishingly short time of 15 years.Valletta has many titles, all recalling its rich historical past. It is the “modern” city built by the Knights of St John; a masterpiece of the Baroque; a European Art City and a World Heritage City. Today, it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.
The city is busy by day, yet retains a timeless atmosphere. The grid of narrow streets boasts some of Europe’s finest art works, churches and palaces.
Hosting a vast cultural programme, walking around Valletta you’ll come across an intriguing historical site around every corner: votive statues, niches, fountains and coats of arms high up on parapets. Narrow side streets are full of tiny quaint shops and cafés and restaurants.
Valletta is the smallest European capital. measuring just 1300meters by 900 meters at its widest point. The narrow streets make parking difficult and we do not recommend that you hire a car especially since most parking spaces are reserved exclusively for residents of the city. If you plan to spend most of your time here you will find that it is easy to walk around. For those wishing to be true further afield then Uber and Bolt are just a click away
- Guests are welcomed personally for check-in.
- Early/late check-in and check-out may be available upon request.
- Depending on availability, the entire building can be booked by one group.
- All suites are served by elevator as well as by the main staircase, however duplex suites have internal stairs to access the upper level.
- Due to the historic nature of the property one may experience low ceilings or uneven stairs, in some public areas of the building. These features were retained in order to protect the original integrity of the building, and whilst every safety precaution has been taken, we do not recommend this building as being suitable for children.
