About this property
A hidden gem with the appeal of a traditional Yorkshire Dales Cottage - dog friendly, pubs nearby
Galboly Cottage is a charming, stone-built holiday home in the heart of the popular village of Reeth within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. Immaculately presented after recent renovations, this cottage now provides the ideal escape for couples and up to one dog looking for a cosy, countryside retreat.
A hidden gem with all the appeal of a traditional Yorkshire Dales Cottage but with all the mod cons to make it a real home from home experience.
Downstairs is a social open plan layout with stunning Yorkshire stone floors throughout. There is a porch perfect for storage of wet coats and for drying off mucky paws. A contemporary galley kitchen packed full of top of the range kitchen equipment with unusual, distressed wallpaper style tiles. The living area provides comfortable seating in front of the modern log burner, a real focal point for cosy evenings as well as a fantastic spot to warm your toes after a day on the fells. To the rear of the house there is separate dining and reading area in a delightfully high roofed room with two Velux windows – perfect for star gazing of an evening on a clear night from the warmth of the cottage.
The staircase has been carefully thought through with the installation of a glass panel to allow the light from the Velux window over the stairs to filter through into the kitchen area. Upstairs is carpeted from the stairs to the bedroom with heavy pile carpets which are super soft under foot. The bedroom is surprisingly spacious, bright and airy. Neutrally decorated with a splash of colour from complementary artwork and quality, soft furnishings. The king size bed is solid oak with a deluxe mattress to ensure a comfortable night sleep. The bathroom is well appointed featuring a spacious walk-in shower, w.c., basin and heated towel rail.
The recent renovations were carried out by skilled local craftsman to very high standards. During which, Galboly Cottage has been extremely well insulated and is heated throughout by new smart electric radiators which are super-efficient, powerful and stylish. Modern plug sockets with USB charging points can be found throughout the holiday home for your convenience. There is super-fast fibre broadband, and a smart TV with streaming service apps such as Netflix, Prime and iPlayer.
To the front of the holiday home there is a small south facing enclosed patio with colourful, floral borders and garden furniture for two people. A lovely spot to enjoy a wine after exploring the dale or a morning coffee as the sun rises. It’s a great spot to chat to the friendly locals as they pass by.
Galboly Cottage is perfectly situated for a simple stroll around the village or to explore the Yorkshire Dales. Local amenities are less than a minute’s walk away and include an award-winning bakery two doors down their fresh bakes in the morning smell divine. Also an arts and crafts centre, two cafes to enjoy a cake and a cuppa, a post office with village store for essential shopping, a gift shop, an ice cream parlour, a museum all about Swaledale, three pubs, a bar and a restaurant. A mile down the road there is Grinton, offering another pub, the Dales Bike Centre with café and the St Andrews Church known as the Cathedral of the Dale.
Walkers and Cyclists will be truly spoilt as there are countless walks and rides in the area, many straight from the door! Swaledale is full of landmarks from the lead mining era, gorgeous waterfalls and stunning views up and down the dale. If you are exploring on foot, then there are a variety of routes from peaceful riverside walks by the River Swale or the Arkle Beck to more challenging walks such as a hike up Fremington Edge or Calver Hill.
The village is nestled at the foot of Calver Hill, on route of the 2014 Tour de Yorkshire route and is a mountain bike mecca; home to one of the UK’s largest Enduro mountain bike race and festival, ‘ArdRock’, which is held annually. Also, not far from the cottage is The Swale Trail – an unsurfaced path which runs from Grinton to Keld.
After a day exploring you will be pleased the local amenities are so close, especially the pubs! The pubs are only around 50 metres away and serve delicious food, have extensive wine and gin lists and some of the finest real ales. All the pubs have outdoor benches overlooking the green and with great atmospheres, popular with both locals and holiday makers – especially in the summer!
Galboly Cottage is one of our dog friendly holiday homes, one well behaved dog welcome. There are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area and plenty of dog friendly walks close by which make this dales holiday cottage an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation.
Parking is on a first come first served basis on the street outside the cottage.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided and electric and initial supply of logs for the log burner is included in the rental price.
