Welcome to our comfortable, spacious, detached home on the outskirts of the village of Kilmaurs, with easy access to Royal Troon for the 2024 Open Championship, Ayr, Glasgow and Kilmarnock. Getting here is easy, with the M77 only 8 minutes by car and Kilmaurs train station only 800m from the doorstep. The famous Weston Tavern is a similar distance.
There is ample parking – a spacious, pristine, monobloc drive, with plenty of street parking if required – and an EV charger is available for use by guests.
The side entrance offers disabled access via a gentle slope, with no steps required for entry to the ground floor with downstairs, twin bedroom. Front access – with double door access for particularly large items – leads into the large, bright hallway with access to the stairs, downstairs twin bedroom, W.C., kitchen, dining room and under stair cupboard, handy for coats, jackets, etc.
The dining room comes equipped with solid oak table, 8 matching oak dining chairs, full crockery and cutlery. There are selections of whisky and gin to enjoy as well as many board games and an extensive collection of nostalgic, 80s vinyl. Along with all the equipment necessary to do it justice. Alternatively, use the jackplug connector provided to use your own device or connect to the Bose Revolve Soundlink via Bluetooth to have your own sounds – just don’t share too loudly with the neighbours! If you feel like making your own music, there is a German upright piano (untuned) just waiting to have its ivories tickled.
Full fibre broadband is available throughout the house and Wi-Fi access details will be provided on arrival.
The cosy lounge has a 55” smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, a multitude of apps and a Panasonic Blu-ray DVD player for you to enjoy a wide range of inhouse films from the Retro Collection! Alternatively, you may cast from your own device or use the 3m HDMI cable to connect to your own laptop or tablet to watch your own entertainment.
From the lounge, the sliding patio doors give direct access to the large (over 65 sqm) decked area, complete with table and seating for 8, perfect for eating outside. There is also a gazebo for protection from the elements in the event they are not being so kind! There is also an outdoor tap, perfect for cleaning muddy shoes.
The well-equipped kitchen has an electric oven, 5 burner hob, 1000W built-in microwave, all necessary crockery, cutlery and an extensive selection of cooking utensils, pots and pans. There is a full height, built-in fridge/freezer with a second (free-standing) in the storage cupboard off the utility room. There is also a Nespresso coffee maker, with a selection of pods for you to choose from. The small cup button gives you an espresso, the large a lungo (small cup) and it’s two larges for an Americano in a regular mug. The smart dishwasher has a high-level cutlery tray and height-adjustable middle basket (check those paddles on the side), with Finish tabs provided. There are a wide range of cycles available – including eco, auto, quiet and express - all of which can be used with the delay function to clean whilst you zzz.
Water quality in the west of Scotland is excellent with soft, drinkable water available straight from the tap.
The utility room has a smart Bosch washing machine and separate Hotpoint tumble drier with sensor to stop your clothes from getting too crispy. Of course, you can always use the clothes poles and retractable washing lines in the garden or the clothes horse if you prefer natural air drying!
The storage room (off the utility) houses the fusebox, along with that second fridge/freezer, jumbo ironing board and cushty cover. The steam iron can be found in the cupboard in the utility.
The W.C. off the hall has exactly what you’d expect along with a supply of hand towels.
The downstairs bedroom has twin 3’ beds, shelved storage and a large oak triple wardrobe with 6 drawers. This bedroom is ideal for the wheelchair-bound, disabled guests or those who find stairs difficult as it can be accessed from the drive via the side door with no steps or stairs to negotiate.
Upstairs there are 3 double bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom (on your right) has a kingsize double sleigh bed, chest of drawers, Ottoman, two bedside tables (all solid oak), antique painted dressing table with hairdryer, built-in wardrobes, a 40” Samsung smart TV - with Netflix and Amazon Prime - plus a fully equipped en-suite bathroom.
The second and third upstairs bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. Each has a kingsize double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe space. There is additional wardrobe space in the landing cupboard between these two rooms. The main bathroom is also off the landing and has a shower and separate bath. Toiletries are provided in all bathrooms for guests.
Gym equipment is available on request: Selection of Dumbbells, Lightweight Situp/Weights Bench, Aerobics Mat, Stretch Bands, Step Platform, 20km/h Treadmill, Rowing Machine (Concept2 Model D) and will be found in the cupboard under the stairs.
Kilmaurs has two convenience stores, a pharmacy, two bar/restaurants, the train station and many other amenities all under a kilometre from our home. Rowallan Golf Club and the renowned Glasshouse Restaurant are under a 10 minute drive. Troon, Ardrossan, Kilwinning, Stewarton and the larger towns of Irvine, Kilmarnock, Ayr are all less than half an hour’s drive.
Ayrshire is, of course, very much Burns country, with Alloway only a 30 minute drive and other attractions within easy reach.
For any major shopping, Tesco Extra is only a 4 mile, 10 minute drive away with many large retailers in the nearby Queens Drive Retail Park. The extensive Silverburn shopping centre is a quick 20 minute trip up the M77 and includes a PureGym, M&S, multiple eateries, Tesco Extra with instore Decathlon sports and multiplex Cineworld.
Glasgow’s Centre, with the many cosmopolitan attractions of a bustling major city, is reachable in under 45 minutes by train or car from Kilmaurs. The city itself is festooned with a cornucopia of attractions from the Burrell Collection, Kelvingrove Art Galleries and myriad golf courses, to the People’s Palace, the Riverside Museum, several iconic music venues, Scotland’s Exhibition Centre, three of the four largest sports stadiums in Scotland and multiple Charles Rennie Mackintosh attractions among many, many others.
