About the host
Hosted by Host
Rock Cottage can trace its roots back to approximately 1879-1881 and we believe it was for accommodation for the foreman of West Hoe Quarry (the harbour masters house) which is now a play park (found opposite the cottage).
Stone from the quarry which can still be seen today, was used to build the cottage and the adjacent Westhoe harbour.
The site then served as a cafe and boat hire venue called Humphries.
Originally the cottage had three bedrooms, one of which is now the bathroom, the large bedroom was split into two.
After undergoing many changes in use over the next Century, it was in the 1960s that a restaurant became the cottage owners and it was home to ‘Tom’.
For the past 10 or so years the cottage has lain empty after incurring considerable damage from the Great Storm of 2014.
In 2023 the new owners bravely took on the cottage and began a sympathetic restoration to reinstate many of the original authentic features.
Now with some exposed stone and brick features and the integration of natural wood throughout, a cozy homely atmosphere and a log burner. All compliment huge walk in shower and quirky bath in the bedroom.
