The medieval village of Volpaia is dominated by its castle. Built to defend the Florentine Republic, the castle and surrounding village now offer delicious wines, fine olive oil and some excellent cooking from various restaurants in the hamlet. The unspoiled village encourages visitors to relax and soak up the atmosphere of another era.
The house is close to the town of Radda in Chianti (10 minute drive). This was another medieval stronghold and its defensive walls are still intact. Here guests will find various shops selling handicrafts, typical local ingredients and delicacies. There is a farmers’ market on the fourth Monday of the month, from 3.00pm. Otherwise, there is a good supermarket
The house is in the heart of the Chianti Classico region which means that guests can enjoy a wide choice of vineyards to visit for tasting and buying excellent local wines.
All the gems of Tuscany are within easy reach, from Florence and Siena both 1 hour away to smaller towns like San Gimignano (1 hour), famous for its medieval towers.
The closest airports are Florence, (1 hour, 10 minutes) or Pisa, which is 1 hour and 45 minutes away. Please note that the pool is open from the 1st of May 2024 to the 30th of September 2024
