About this property

Camp Little Bear on Upper Saranac Lake

You will love this peaceful cabin on the pristine Upper Saranac Lake in the heart of the Adirondack Park. Enjoy the views of the lake, Panther Mountain, Chapel Island and Birch Island. The camp is 25 feet from the lake with 100 feet of shoreline. Spend time swimming, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing and roasting marshmallows with your family at a campfire by the lake.

This two bedroom, one bath cabin on the east shore comfortably sleeps 4 people. The master bedroom has a king size bed and sink for washing up and two twins in the second bedroom.

We provide two kayaks, and a canoe.

Chapel Island is a 10 minute paddle away and holds non-denominational services on Sundays during the summer. Paddle over or drive to Indian Carry and catch the island shuttle. Ampersand Mountain and Panther Mountain hiking trails are only a 5 mile drive away. The Adirondack Wild Center for the kids is nearby in Tupper Lake. The Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, the Olympic Village of Lake Placid, Paul Smiths College Visitors Interpretive Center, the Ausable River, and Whiteface Mountain are all close by. When you want some time in the village, head over to the town of Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake or Lake Placid.

Boat rentals are available in Saranac Lake at Lake Flower Marina, Crescent Bay Marina and Hickoks Livery.

If you are resourceful, I advertise on multiple sites, it may pay to shop around. Google is your friend.

We rent weekly Sunday-Sunday. Although VRBO will allow you to request any arbitrary dates, I will respond with a request for weekly bookings.

Lovely cabin

Only downside is that the weather wasn't a bit warmer so we could enjoy the water more but that just means we want to come back again another time. Beautiful spot and cozy cabin.

Amazing

Amazing view. We loved falling asleep to loons and fishing! The stay was stream lined. We didn’t have to ask questions; all necessary information was provided to us before hand. Definitely would go again!

A Fall weekend at Little Bear Cabin: Remote, Quiet, and Loons

We were blessed with the best weather! It was a very windy start but cleared, allowing kayaking, hiking and ADK leaf color. The provided kayaks are Pungos - easy, stable paddle boats. We took them over to Chapel Island and down the beautiful quiet bay to see the old camp with incredible boathouse. The youngest in our group swam every day. WE hiked at The VIC, Newcomb environmental center, went to The High Gorge waterfalls, the ADK museum at Blue Mountain. The only caveat for Little Bear renters-no potable water. Because we were out and about most afternoons, 6 gallons lasted our party of 4 over our four day stay. All in all, Camp Little Bear has a comfortable old camp feeling, family friendly, right on the water and ready for days of fun and evening campfires under the stars. Oh, one more thing, be sure to look for the yellow wagon under the house. Makes getting your gear to the cabin easy!

Stay in paradise

The property was more than we imagined! The location is 100% awesome secluded and yet close to Saranac Lake and lake placid. The fishing was fantastic! Just a great place to decompress from life. We are definitely going to make this a yearly trip. Thanks again for the fantastic place!

Perfect ADK getaway!

The photos are accurate, this cottage is charming, comfortable, clean, and well appointed. Our check in packet of information was informative and helpful. Chris (owner) is responsive and so helpful that when our 22 ft boat took on water and sunk at the dock, he was in the water until after dark helping us raise it...in October! Brrrr Just good people. Can't say enough good things about this property or owner!

Quiet week to unwind

Camp little bear was just what our family needed to unwind and have some quality time together. The cabin was super clean and had all that we needed for our week. Waking up with the lake right outside the wind and the quiet calmness was amazing. Owner was easy to get in touch with and provided a great welcome packet email for everything we needed to know. We would definitely use Camp Little Bear again!

Excellent Family Vacation

We had a blast at Camp Little Bear! The camp is right on the water and the boys could fish right off the dock. We rented a boat and explored the lake, and also used the canoe that came with the property to go over to Middle Saranac. We explored the near by towns and really enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend and we hope to be back soon!

Not just a place to stay...

The location is fantastic and having the kayaks and grill make things easy. Just show up and start enjoying yourself! We've stayed at a few camps in this area and this is our best experience so far. The cabin is smaller but was comfortable for 4 adults. The porch is great and we loved having breakfast while watching the sunrise. The views from the dock allow for great sunsets as well. We wouldn't hesitate coming back for another stay.

Remote traditional lake cottage

This cottage is in a good quiet location. Although listing includes WIFI we did not have WIFI or TV. I communicated with the owner about WIFI being a critical requirement several times. The owner was unable to get it working during our 5 day stay and gave us several excuses. The cottage is located 7 miles down a single lane gravel road. Could be a challenge at night. Cottage is traditional ADK style with a nice screened porch. The owners need to to do some updates, clean and pay attention to detail. Most of the pots and pans were old and worn and sitting on the floor inside the cabinets and the toaster did not work properly. The large couch was uncomfortable and the small couch smelled. Need some new throw pillows. The driveway post light didnt work. The main front door had to be slammed to lock properly. The fire pit was nice and the deck was great to sit, relax and watch the loons. All in all this is a nice cottage for the price.

A great week at Camp Little Bear

We paddled, swam, hiked up nearby Ampersand Mt, heard loons and enjoyed beautiful rainbows and sunsets. The cabin was clean, cozy and had just what we needed, perfect for the 2 of us! Chris was helpful, responsive and went out of his way to make us comfortable. We definitely want to return!

Beautiful spot on Saranac Lake

I enjoyed my three nights at this property on Saranac Lake. The long picturesque drive from the main road made the cabin seem remote from the world and yet it was surrounded by other properties so it didn't seem isolated. The cabin is right on the lake with easy access and spectacular views. It was a little more rustic than my last stay on this lake but that made it seem like a more authentic old-fashioned Adirondack experience. A nice weekend getaway.

Will definately go back!

This the best little getaway for someone who needed some rest and relaxation. The cottage is cozy and clean with all the comforts needed. We took a Canoe ride to Chapel island, Hiked, ate, relaxed in the evening by a campfire in front of the lake, watched the stars and enjoyed the beautiful view day and night. I will definitely come back! I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in the Adirondacks. Thank you Chris & family. Kindest regards, Maggie & Joan

Incredible setting to enjoy the pristine waters of Upper Saranac

This was the perfect location for our family of 3 to enjoy the Adirondacks. The setting is a perfect mix of privacy and easy access to surrounding towns. The villages of Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid are all an easy drive from this location (not that you need to leave). The camp offered all the amenities necessary to enjoy a great week, including a fantastic screened porch. You can tell the owners take pride in maintaining a very clean property. They were also very responsive to any questions we had in advance of our visit. The dock offered incredible views and easy swimming access. The kayaks and canoe that are included are in great shape and offered the opportunity to explore the islands and shoreline. The private road leading to the property offered a great place to walk or run without needing to leave. We'll be returning to Camp Little Bear!

Perfect holiday getaway

The cabin was perfect for our family getaway. Awesome because we had both car and boat access to the property, which made getting our belongings in & out very easy and made use of the lake super fun. The dock worked perfectly for our boat. The cabin has all amenities needed and owner is very easy to work with.
