About this property
Stylish village house with spa pool, super close to walking/cycling routes
Situated in a quiet village street but within walking distance of all amenities, our well-equipped home also benefits from an outdoor spa pool, and outdoor cooking space in a completely private rear garden. The open plan ground floor living space ensures a sociable time for your family or group with an additional seating area on the first floor along with a spacious bathroom. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full size oven, hob, washing machine and dishwasher. There is also a fridge-freezer, microwave and stovetop coffee pot, and a good range of cooking equipment. If you prefer to eat out, there are two restaurants, a creperie and a bar within walking distance. Many more bars and restaurants can be found in the nearby towns and villages. Shops in the village specialise in local produce for you to try and we are about an hour's drive from some of the best known wine and Cognac producers.
The area is a haven for wildlife with birds, butterflies and lizards a plenty, as well as deer and wild boar. In the summer, it's great to sit out in the garden and watch the bats and the stars with very little light pollution. There are many walks to be enjoyed in the local area, as well as lakes, rivers and chateaux to explore. Bikes can be hired in the village for the local bike trail and an excellent accrobranche course is just a short drive away. There are many rivers and lakes in the area which offer beaches and fishing and our beautiful Dronne river flows just a very short walk away.

About the host

We are Paul and Amanda and we live in South Wales. Paul is retired and I am a headteacher
Why they chose this property
Our connection with France goes back a long way. Paul has family in France and we both first came to France as teenagers. We have tried to maintain this tradition by bringing our own children on regular visits over the years and introducing them to French culture and lifestyle. We love to visit the local lakes and rivers or walk in the stunning countryside. We love to go for a drink at the bar in the village or eat with friends or family. The markets are superb with fresh local produce but we also have an excellent butcher/deli in the village, as well as a traditional bakery. Further afield, we like to visit historical towns, villages and chateaux as well as local attractions such as the accrobranche course near Nontron, or the excellent caves at Villars. Alternatively, it's great to just chill in the garden or take a dip in the pool.
What makes this property unique
We love the tradition and the history of this property and also our friendly local community. Whilst some of the renovations had already been carried out when the house came to us, we have tried to maintain its character and history. Our part of the street is in a conservation zone and that is partly due to our historic first floor bedroom window. It is thought to have been taken from a much grander building, possibly the local convent or monastery.
