Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. . Nestled near the ever-popular Polzeath Beach, Shilla Mill is a historic gem dating back to 1591. Its beams, allegedly salvaged from shipwrecks on the notorious Doom Bar, bear ancient inscriptions and one the figurehead of a lion. This enchanting property was a favoured retreat of poet laureate Sir John Betjeman, whilst the grounds hide a secret tunnel once used by smugglers to transport their ill-gotten treasures.
Inside, the distinctive living room has one wall carved from the granite hillside, infusing the space with natural charm. It features a large wall-mounted TV, plush seating, and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. The dining room, which doubles as an extra living area, also has a wood-burning stove, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The well-appointed kitchen and separate utility room provide all the modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
Upstairs, four bedrooms offer flexible accommodation: a double room leading to a single, another double room, and a single room. The family bathroom includes a bath with a shower overhead. Throughout the house, quirky features like twisted beams, sloping floors, and leaning walls add to its unique character. Outside, the garden is perfect for enjoying morning coffee or alfresco dining.
Opposite the property, the owners’ small campsite welcomes summer campers, whilst a nearby path leads to The Point, a prestigious golf club, and Daymer Bay, known for its breathtaking beauty and safe swimming waters. Polzeath village, just a five-minute flat walk away, offers boutique shops and conveniences, with parking available on the beach. The expansive golden sands are ideal for surfing or leisurely relaxation. To the north, discover Port Isaac, the fictional home of Doc Martin.
Across the Camel Estuary lies Padstow, with its charming narrow streets, exquisite restaurants, and vibrant quayside.
