About this property
Cosy historic cottage, quiet hillside location-perfect for couples & walkers!
The Linhay is a cosy Grade II listed cottage in the historic Upper Town of Minehead, opposite 15th century St Michael's Church and a minute from the picturesque cobbled paths and thatched cottages of Church Steps, a short walk from the seafront and town centre. Well-equipped, beautifully furnished, and with super views, it is a perfect base to explore the beautiful areas of Exmoor National Park, the Quantock Hills, and the Somerset and Devon coastline with characterful towns such as Linton and Lynmouth with its funicular railway. Spend a day on the West Somerset Steam Railway from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, stopping off to explore the fascinating harbour town of Watchet with its boutiques and pubs. For walkers, there are many footpaths to explore the glorious countryside, and the South West Coast Path is just a short walk from the cottage with spectacular views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. The cottage is situated on the slopes of North Hill where there are breathtaking views across Minehead Bay and up the coast towards the historic port of Watchet. It is just a short walk downhill into Minehead town center with its numerous shops, restuarants, pubs and boutiques, and the beautiful long sandy beach which is excellent for swimming. (Save your legs and get a taxi back up the hill!) Just a few miles from Minehead is the popular medieval village of Dunster with its impressive National Trust castle and Yarn Market, a frequent background in TV shows and movies.
Relax in the cosy sitting room with the woodburner on cold winter nights or on the pretty patio on summer evenings.
The cottage's front door opens to a small porch, and then into the sitting room with smart TV and woodburner and seating 4. Next is the dining room with seatin for 4, leading to the modern well-equipped new kitchen with dishwasher, electric oven, microwave, washing machine and fridge-freezer. Beyond the kitchen is the shower room with shower stall, toilet, sink and cupboards and a heated towel rail. The back stable door opens onto a path shared with a neighbour, and a private patio area with 4 seats and bistro table overlooking the pretty flower garden and with views actoss the valley to Exmoor National Park. The garden path leads to a gate and a 10 minute walk downhill into town.
Up the narrow stairs are 2 double bedrooms, the large one at the front of the house with double bed, plenty of cupboards, drawers, and mirrors. Facing the back of the house is the small bedroom with double sleigh bed, and views across the town below towards Exmoor. There are hangers, a chest of drawers, large mirror, and an airing cupboard in the corner of the room. This room is under the roof with sloping ceiling so watch your head! Both bedrooms have lamps and USB outlets, and come with cotton bedlinen and towels.
The heating is by electric night storage heaters plus an electric stove heater and log burner in the sitting room for extra warmth.
All furnishings and equipment are of good quality.
This cottage is not suitable for those with mobility issues due to the steep staircase. Also as we are located on a hill, the walk to town and the beach is downhill, and consequently uphill on the return. There is a taxi rank in the town centre and we provide phone number for off season taxi service.

About the host
Hosted by Joy C
I am from Somerset yet lived abroad for many years. Of all the places I visited, West Somerset is at the top of my list for the variety of the landscape with its pretty hills, valleys, fields, and villages, the fascinating coastline and fossil beaches, coast path and amazing views. I love walking and in this area you are never far from a footpath. The Linhay is my holiday home I'd love to share with like-minded people.
Why they chose this property
It is so peaceful yet convenient for the town and walking. I love waking up to views across the town, and relaxing in the south-facing garden.
What makes this property unique
The Linhay is a Grade II listed house for its historical features, and we have aimed to furnish it sympathetically with a mix of refurbished antiques and new items, with original wall art and vintage prints. We hope you will like it as much as we do!
