About this property

Willow Cottage- Whitby

This lovely property sits overlooking the River Esk on one of the ancient streets in this much-loved fishing town. Stroll from the doorstep to see the yachts in the marina and explore the bustling harbour with a variety of boats and working fishing vessels. Head to one of the local beaches, West Cliff’s Blue Flag beach, to play on the sand and stroll along the pier to the lighthouse (1 miles) and the quieter Saltwick Bay beach (1.5 miles) for fossil hunting and a fun dog walk. Visit the historic Whitby Abbey (accessed via 199 steps) and neighbouring church mentioned in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Wander cobbled streets for galleries, gift shopping, arts and eateries. Explore the coastal path for stunning scenery and local wildlife, and head to the North York Moors National Park (3 miles) for walking, cycling and picturesque villages.
This delightful, riverfront cottage is set over four floors with many original features including exposed wooden beams and wood flooring. Enter the property via the rear shared enclosed courtyard and into the hallway on the ground floor. The contemporary kitchen is just off the hallway and has been finished with quality appliances and clever lighting. You will find everything you need to prepare your meals and drinks during your stay. Head upstairs and halfway up you will come to the family shower room. Continue upstairs to the bright and airy lounge/diner with dual-aspect windows. From the front, you have a wonderful view of the River Esk and can sit on cushions at the window seat to watch the boats bobbing in the water and the activities beyond. There is plenty of comfortable seating to relax on if you decide to stay in, with a CD player/radio, a large Smart TV, with Sky TV and a DVD player for entertainment and the wood burner-style electric heater adds to the cosy ambience. The dining table has seating for four for sociable family mealtimes. Upstairs on the second floor, the character of the property continues in the double bedroom which is set in the eves with a wooden floor, high ceiling, exposed beams, a wood burner-style electric fire set in the feature fireplace and dual aspect windows. The view from the window offers an excellent view of the marina. The second bedroom is a spacious twin on the lower ground floor which is at street level at the front of the cottage and provides a lovely private space for two where you can enjoy a lie in watching morning Freeview TV. A sliding door opens to the en-suite shower room. Please note this bedroom can be accessed either from the cottage’s front door, into a small hallway where you can store your coats and shoes, or for the fit and adventurous, via a bespoke access hatch in the lounge which reveals a ‘paddle’-style staircase.
Outside, at the rear there is an attractive, enclosed courtyard patio with garden furniture (shared with the neighbouring property) where you can enjoy a quiet drink or eat your famous Whitby fish and chips outdoors. Or wander a few yards along the street for a choice of pubs and restaurants.
