Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: Payhembury is a rural village in East Devon with a pub, shop, tennis courts, playground and even a phone box library. Nearby is Hembury Fort, an important historical site, being one of the most impressive Iron Age hill forts. Slightly further afield is the delightful market town of Honiton. It lies in the valley of the River Otter and is surrounded by rolling Devon hills, green wooded valleys and plenty of scattered farming villages. Honiton has an attractive High Street stretching almost 2 miles, and is lined with individually owned shops, pubs and restaurants. The village has been famous for lacemaking since the reign of Elizabeth I and still has a few lacemakers in work today - visitors can see some fine examples of antique lace in the town’s Allhallows Museum. Only a short drive from the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site, Honiton is in a fantastic location. Resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline, and all have much to occupy the visitor. The nearest city is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and fabulous restaurants.
