Nestled below Skiddaw and within a short walk from the lake which the village takes its name, Bassenthwaite is the perfect base for exploring the northern Lake District with activities and attractions on the doorstep. Dodd Wood, Ashness Bridge, Whinlatter Forest, Go Ape and the Lake District Wildlife Park are all within a short drive. The market town of Keswick and Derwentwaiter are a 20 minute drive with shops, pubs and restaurants along with attractions for young and old, the Puzzling Place and Pencil Museum are worth a visit. There is walking from the door, head over the Caldbeck fells and explore the nearby villages of Ireby and Uldale or explore some of the Wainwrights surrounding the village including Skiddaw, Helvellyn, Catbells and Latrigg.
Fell View Bassenthwaite is converted from a 17th century barn and has a home from home feel. The upside down cottage is located on the owners working hill farm 2 miles south east of Bassenthwaite, the upstairs living area benefits from fell views and exposed beams adding to the character. This is the perfect base to escape city living and recharge your batteries, relax in the garden shared with guests from Bassenthwaite Farm Cottage (rent together to sleep up to 9 people), it is the perfect all year round base to reconnect with nature and explore the beautiful countryside on the doorstep.
The cottage has electric storage heaters and comprises: Ground floor bedrooms accessed via a few steps from the hall, double bedroom with fell views. Twin bedroom with zip link beds which can convert to a super king on request, there is also a wash basin. The family bathroom has shower over bath, hand basin and WC.
First floor open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with characterful beams and windows framing the fell views. A comfy sofa and armchairs surround the electric coal effect fire and TV with DVD player and dining table. Kitchen with electric cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave.
The cottage is heated by night storage heaters and all electric, bed linen and towels are provided. Private parking for 2 cars. Shared use of the garden with Bassenthwaite Farm Cottage guests. Shared use of a washing machine and tumble dryer located in one of the outhouses.
