The Neighborhood:
Sydhavn, or South Harbor, is a vibrant neighborhood in Copenhagen that blends its industrial heritage with modern urban living. Once an industrial district, it has transformed into a lively area known for its contemporary architecture, art spaces, and waterfront views. With old warehouses repurposed into apartments, cafes, and galleries, Sydhavn features many inner harbors and bathing spots, perfect for summer swims or joining locals in chilly winter-bathing dips and sauna.
Other well-known attractions are:
→ Slusen Café: Café in cozy surroundings by the sluice in Sydhavn. Here, you can enjoy delicious food and cold drinks by the water's edge.
→ Harbor Bus (Havnebus): The yellow harbor buses take you up and down the harbor on a regular bus ticket. And they’re running on electricity.
→ Amager Fælled: Amager Fælled is named for its historical use as a communal grazing area for local farmers. Once a military training ground and landfill until 1974, it is now a protected park offering wildlife, scenic walks, and picnic spots.
→ Badezone Byskoven: New bathing spot with a platform and pool towards the canal, it’s open and free and just a short bike ride away from Mekano.
→ Sydhavnstippen: Often just called "Tippen" in everyday speech—is a scenic area in Sydhavn, created from deposited construction waste and surplus soil. Since 1973, it has more or less been a tribute to biodiversity, largely left to its own devices. Across the many hectares of land, both flat and wild, you can find llamas and beautiful picnic spots and trekking trails.
→ Kalvebod Fælled: Expansive nature reserve along Copenhagen's waterfront, perfect for outdoor relaxation.
→ Kødbyen: The area called Kødbyen, the old slaughterhouse of Copenhagen, is nearby and features some of the best restaurants in Copenhagen.
Getting Around:
Mekano is conveniently located near the "Mozart Plads" metro station. It takes only 7 minutes to reach the city center and just 30 minutes to reach the airport from here. The surrounding area boasts cafes, bars, and supermarkets, and is in close proximity to the water, where you can swim or take a harbor boat to the city center.
Other Things to Note:
Please note there might be construction in the surrounding area.
Interaction with Guests:
Our reception is available 24/7 via text or phone. We strive to provide exceptional housekeeping and reception services, and we are here to assist with any questions before, during, and after your stay. Requests for additional housekeeping, fresh towels, or travel tips are just a phone call away. Copenhagen is renowned for its world-class restaurants, and we can help with booking culinary adventures or arranging transportation to get you there.
