Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Moniaive means ‘Hill of Streams’ in Gaelic, and the village itself occupies a wonderful location at the meeting of the three glens of Craigdarroch, Dalwhat and Castlefairn. Although planned by a local landowner in the 17th century, Moniaive has a history dating back to the 10th century, and the medieval street layout is still evident. The village has been dubbed ‘One of the coolest in Scotland’ by The Times, and today it is a bustling, thriving centre with a range of facilities including a fabulous Italian restaurant. There are many events throughout the year including the Moniaive Gala and festivals for beer, bluegrass and folk music. In the hills surrounding the village are the Striding Arches, a series of Andy Goldsworthy sculptures set in the landscape. Visiting these also offers some delightful walking in the spectacular scenery. This is a wonderful village for a holiday in Scotland.
