About this property

Historic Elizabethan house very close to the beach

Located among the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is an immaculately presented Elizabethan house dating back over 400 years. The house is close to the beach and harbour as well as the town's many cafes, restaurants and pubs. It is very well equipped for modern-day living yet steeped in a rich history with many original features including beamed and gabled ceilings and offers discerning guests a flavour of days long gone. The house has the benefit of wifi internet access.

With quality furniture and soft furnishings throughout, guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The house is normally let from Saturday to Saturday during the peak season but we offer long weekend breaks during other times. The house is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic harbour and many cafes, bars and restaurants. It is a no-smoking property and we regret that we can't take pets or support animals.

Joining instructions are usually sent out 2 - 3 weeks before arrival. Guests can normally access the house from 5.00 pm on the first day, although we will our best to get you in well before this. We ask that your accommodation be vacated by 9.00 am on the day of departure. Unfortunately, our cleaning company dictates these times, although we will do our very best to extend these.

We're based locally and never far away.

This coastal location in South-East Cornwall is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is a perfect escape from the urban hustle & bustle. Looe itself is divided by the river and the old town has a maze of alleyways and back streets to explore as well as the banjo pier and sandy beach. Looe has all sorts of galleries and shops and there are numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes too. The harbour is the perfect place to watch the world go by and Looe is a thriving fishing town. Further afield, explore the picturesque village of Polperro whose tiny harbour was once a hub for brandy and tobacco smuggling. Or take a walk along the coastal path and enjoy the spectacular Cornish scenery. Looe is a great base from which to explore Cornwall and nearby you will find the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Restormel Castle.

The house has the benefit of allocated parking for two cars (one space is in the Beachside carpark at the end of the street, the other is an allocated space in the Millpool carpark which is 7 - 8 minutes away on foot). Guests are welcome to drive to the top of Higher Chapel Street, just a few yards from the entrance, to unload and load etc.

Perfect holiday cottage experience
We had an absolutely lovely stay in this beautiful, characterful cottage. It was perfectly placed for wondering around town and down to the sea and coastal walks. The house had everything we needed, looked amazing, and the owners were lovely and so helpful. It was a fabulous holiday and we were all very sad to leave Lantau Cottage!

Awesome location
Easy check in process. Great communication with owner (Who actually send back belongings left behind at the house). Near the ocean and shops and crab fishing and fishing expeditions. Would recommend to others looking for a quaint house with history and charm.

Great holiday house in the centre of Looe
Just spent a wonderful week in this lovely Elizabethan house in the charming town of Looe. We were five budding authors and one acclaimed published author who together drew much inspiration from this characterful historic house and the neighbouring surrounds. The house was very well presented, clean and comfortable. Lots of attention to detail with quality linens and towels. We highly recommend this fine property and would love to come back.

so convenient and characterful
we were very comfortable in this delightful old house - children loved it - and adults especially appreciated the comfortable beds, nice linen and lots of hot water. It is ideally situated for a family holiday and felt very safe which is important. My only slight niggle would be that the soft furnishings in the sitting room are looking a little tired.

A charming piece of history.
Holding my breath as I entered Landau Cottage, we were all immediately charmed by the ancient wooden beams and white painted walls. We felt transported back in history. We appreciated the house being well fitted with modern bathrooms and a kitchen which was also well equipped.

Excellent property in a charming location
This property suited us very well as it is perfectly situated in the heart of Looe just a few hundred yards from the sandy beach. We are a family of 7 very tall adults and although some ducking around the beams was required, everyone really enjoyed the beautifully furnished and well appointed property. We cooked for ourselves every night but it had everything we needed, even a whisk for the Eton Mess! There was plenty to keep us occupied, coastal walks, swimming in the sea, boat trip to Polperro, adrenaline quarry and a day out in Foye.

Beautiful historic house close to the beach
We loved this Elizabethan house and felt privileged staying. We loved the kitchen (new we were informed) which was very well equipped with a wonderful range. The house is very tastefully decorated and in sympathy with its medieval heritage with a comfortable living room and five bedrooms. The house is perfectly located in a quiet backwater of the old town - in one of the narrow streets leading up from the beach. Looe itself has lots to offer the whole family with plenty of great eateries and public houses. All in all we had a brilliant week.

A property bursting with character right in the heart of East Looe. It’s tucked away in the middle of a labyrinth of old, quiet alleyways but just yards from the beach and from the busy touristy streets. The inside of the property was full of charm and very well equipped. One or two things were a bit tired but nothing to spoil our trip. All the bedding and bathroom facilities were spotless. All our communication with the host was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again! Thank-you!

Great house - so close to beach (and everything)!
Three generations making a return visit to Looe and Lantau Cottage enjoying all the charm and character both have to offer. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped - we loved the new curtains and other touches appearing since our last visit. The house is perfectly located in the heart of the old town with the beach just yards away. We enjoyed evenings in the Salutation, Ship and Fisherman's. Breakfasts in Daisy's, Tasty Corner and the Pier Cafe. We really enjoyed the Plough on the Quay (formerly Trawlers) and great to see the return of Pepe's. Thanks again for having us! We'll be back!

A step back in time! Great house in perfect spot
We were six middle aged couples enjoying an Autumn walking break in this lovely part of Cornwall. The house was clean and comfortable and rich in history. We loved the beamed ceilings, paneled walls, hidden doors and ship mast joining all the floors. Sympathetically decorated with nice soft furnishings and curtains. Good attention to detail extended to the pictures and wall hangings - most continuing the nautical theme - which added to the feel of quality and refinement. Location couldn't have been better - a stone's throw from both the beach and harbour - and close to some truly great restaurants: Smugglers Cott, Old Sail Loft, Ancient Mariner to name a few. We enjoyed hearty breakfasts in the Pier Cafe as well as Daisy's and also Tasty Corner. All in all a lovely holiday home experience and highly recommended.

Great extended family holiday in top location
We were an extended family of 8 enjoying a weeks holiday in the lovely town of Looe. The house was easy to find (thanks for the good directions) and we were greeted by Dilly, the house manager, who was very helpful and informative. The house is arranged over 3 floors and even with eight of us we never felt on top of each other.....we discovered a separate mini lounge/snug on the top floor which had its own TV and which the children claimed as their own den. All the beds were very comfortable and we all slept extremely well. The kitchen was very well equipped and we enjoyed sitting around the lovely old dining table enjoying meals. The old leather sofas in the lounge were great for relaxing in too. The location couldn't have been better and very close to the beach and everything else. The hardest part for us was leaving. Would love to come back.

Enjoyed a lovely holiday in this amazing house
This is our second year at Lantau Cottage - we love this house. It's a real step back in time with some lovely historical features: beamed ceilings, Elizabethan panelled walls, oriel windows, a full sized ship mast running from top to bottom etc. It's comfortably furnished (especially comfortable beds with decent cotton sheets) at the same time it has of all the amenities you'd expect for modern day living. It's sympathetically decorated on a nautical rustic theme – we love the wall hangings and tapestries. Best of all is its great location in the centre of the old town and very close to the beach and harbour. It's quietly situated but also close to the town's many cafes and restaurants. We love the Smuggler's Cott and enjoyed the new Plough on the Quay. Also Daisy's for breakfast is a must. For a family of eight (two families in fact) it suited and served us well plus it's a really bonus having two parking spaces. No hesitation in recommending and looking forward to returning.

Disappointed
Location and house amazing. But the house needs a deep clean!!! Beds and bedding are spotless, but everything else is very dusty and dirty. Fire was disgusting and in my opinion not safe (I have two log burners, so I know it needed attention before use), oven was greasy so didn't use it (as i didn't want to clean on holiday) previous guests food in cupboards. Highchair was disgusting... white straps were brown (had to bleach them) and i still didn't want to put the baby in it :(. Had a lovely holiday but i wouldn't stay again as i don't expect to pay a large amount of money and have to clean.

Amazing holiday with the family!
This beautiful house is in the Ideal holiday location, close to the beach, and within a five-minute walking distance from all the great restaurants and cafes! Although we spent whole days just wondering through this magical village, there is just so much to do! We went fishing, crabbing, enjoyed the sun on the beach, went for ferry rides and gazed at the stunning views of the sea for hours! We also took a boat-trip to Looe Island, which was a day we won't be forgetting soon! The atmosphere in Looe was amazing and the locals were all helpful and very kind. The house itself was more than we could have hoped for! Everything was super clean and tidy. We were baffled by the beauty of the house, the very moment we walked in! The house just has something about it that pictures can't capture. It exceeded all our expectations and it truly made us feel like we were on holiday! One of our best holidays ever! Would recommend to anyone! Thanks for the amazing experience, and we can't wait to come back! The Morrisons

Fabulous house right near the sea
We have had a lovely time in this gorgeous house which is full of character. We were 6 people, my parents, husband and 2 teenage sons. The house is in a great location, moments from the seafront and right in the heart of this gorgeous little town. It is in one of the quaint little alleys between the river and the beach. The house is well stocked and comfortable. Storage in the kitchen is tight as it is an old building. There was plenty of space to eat around the large table, and lots of lounging space on the various sofas. The bedrooms had quality linen and comfy beds, and the two bathrooms had plenty of hot water. We don’t have a car and were perfectly able to shop and potter about without. We were blessed with gorgeous weather which meant open windows and some noise from seagulls, neighbours and cars at night. This is a very old house which meant the rooms were on the small side with low ceilings, however the charm of staying in such a lovely old building totally outweighed these little issues. The master bedroom at the top was a good size and had a little seating area off it. If you are very tall, claustrophobic or need complete silence maybe look elsewhere, but if you love old buildings with loads of charm in a very central pretty location, this is the place for you.

Our holiday in Looe
Myself, my family and friends all stayed in Lantau Cottage in August. The cottage is in a perfect location, a stones throw from the beach and all the shops and restaurants. The cottage itself is so cute and comfortable and the joining instructions were clear and helpful. The owner himself was very kind and friendly too in all our correspondence. We would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the beautiful town of Looe.
