Nestled within the enchanting grounds of Paxton House, one of Britain’s finest Palladian estates, is The Old Bakery Flat, a beautifully converted luxury holiday cottage. Located in one of the wings of the main house it offers a private sanctuary just a stone’s throw away from the stunning gardens and expansive grounds.
As you enter, you’ll be captivated by the blend of historical charm and modern amenities. To the left, the open-plan kitchen and dining area, creating an inviting setting for leisurely meals. The kitchen is fully equipped, providing everything you need to prepare a delicious feast or enjoy a cosy breakfast.
Adjacent to the kitchen, a separate toilet enhances convenience, while the welcoming living area invites you to unwind. With an electric fire and a double sofa bed, it’s the perfect space to relax after a day of exploration. Gather around the smart TV for a movie night or simply enjoy the tranquillity of your surroundings.
Venture upstairs to find serene sleeping quarters. The main bedroom boasts a luxurious king-size bed and the second bedroom features two twin beds, ideal for children or friends. Both rooms offer lovely views of the grounds. A family bathroom, complete with a bath and shower over, and you’ll find warmth in the exclusive Paxton House sheep wool blankets provided for your comfort.
During your stay, take advantage of a discounted house tour of historic Paxton House (only available April - October) and immerse yourself in its rich history, featuring exquisite Chippendale furniture, Georgian costumes, and stunning paintings from Scotland’s National Collection. In 1988, the Home Robertson family gifted the estate to the nation and founded a charity to ensure that everyone can appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the house, it’s wonderful collections and expansive grounds and gardens. After your tour, treat yourself to homemade cakes and refreshments at the on-site Stables Tearoom (please check website for opening hours).
Enjoy the luxury of access to the estate’s expansive grounds, scenic woodland trails, and delightful playground.
The Old Bakery Flat is perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding area. Just a short drive away, the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed awaits, renowned for its stunning coastal views and rich heritage. The breathtaking Northumberland Coast is also nearby, offering miles of beautiful beaches and scenic walking trails. For a day trip, the vibrant city of Edinburgh is within easy reach, brimming with iconic sights, shops, and restaurants. Additionally, a friendly pub is located within a mile, where you can savour local ales and hearty meals after a day of adventure.
