Pratt Mountain Getaway
From the initial booking, the host (Ken) ensured we were destined for a great trip. The communication was appreciated. We had every detail emailed, and texted to us. We knew exactly what lay ahead for us. The location itself was an adventure as the house was nestled on top of a mountain. Don't be surprised when you drive through some steep dirt roads, again, the host tells you up front that you need a good vehicle. Once we got to the house, it was just as advertised. It's a beautiful location, secluded, and surrounded by trees. The pond was a lot of fun and just a short hike from the house. We had a great time hanging out, going for hikes, mountain biking, chatting by the fire pit, and gazing at the stars. When we weren’t outside, we were having fun playing pool and darts. We occupied all three rooms, and if you’re going to as well, the room next to the bathroom has the best mattress. Oh, and something I didn’t pay attention to was that the rooms didn’t have curtains so if you need it to be dark to sleep take an eye mask. I used a t-shirt, and it was fine. Also, bring your own pillows. We got lucky with the weather, slept with windows open and didn’t get too hot. It also wasn’t cold enough to start the wood heater but was there if needed. The kitchen had everything we needed. The fridge kept everything cool. I could go on writing about this place but my advice is just check it out. Pay attention to the description, follow the host’s directions, ask questions if you have them!

"Camping" at it's best!
Everyone had a great time! We all had our own space and then great big kitchen to share with meal prep. The cabin has amazing views of the mountains from its wrap around porch but my favorite part of every day was looking up at the stars while enjoying the snap and crackle from the fire pit.

Paradise on Pratt Mountain
Off the grid is right... solar and hydro power with a large back up generator. Everything you would ever need for a fantastic Family vacation. Stocked full of games, darts, pool, and even chess. The pond is a short hike down the hill and a breathtaking spot to relax. Didn't catch a fish, but that isn't really the point for me... that's just a bonus. The ONLY thing I wish I would have brought, would have been a pillow I am comfortable with. We all have our sleeping habits that we get used to, and I prefer a harder pillow. Overall, we can't wait to go back next year! Thank you Ken and William for all of your hospitality, and to the entire Pratt Family for allowing us to take a glimpse into your Family history.

Slice of solitude
Our family of 4 had a wonderful time relaxing and connecting at the Hideout on Pratt mountain. We enjoyed many beautiful hikes around the property and the kids really had a great time casting for fish at the pond! The house was clean and well stocked/organized with lots of games, puzzles and amenities too! Owners were easy to connect with via text and very responsive to any questions.

Best birthday,s/Father's Day weekend ever!
If you're looking for peace and serenity this is the place to be! The Pratt family went above and beyond for my disabled wife and made her birthday wish come true of living the mountain life! We are already making plans for next year! The 4x4ing up and down the mountains is awesome! Nothing but green every where, fishing on the pond with my family while listening to the wind blow through the trees and seeing wildlife was priceless! We made beautiful memories here and can't wait to make more! Thank you so much!

Peaceful serenity
I booked this property looking for a get away for my family, a place to get out of town and away from it all a quiet place to just relax and reset. The Hideout on Pratt Mountain was that place!! I far surpassed all of my expectations!!! Beautiful home with all of the accommodations, very friendly owner easy to communicate with before during and even after our stay. Beautiful location, quiet, peaceful, you could hear the birds see the wildlife from birds and squirrels to foxes and moose, we even got the pleasure of hearing wolves howling in the distance. I was able to get my children off of electronics and out into nature now they are asking when we can go on our next adventure. I would wholeheartedly recommend Hide Out on Pratt Mountain to anyone looking to get away!

Wonderful
What a wonderful place! The property is beautiful and completely secluded. House was clean and had everything you could want. The wrap around porch is a great place to sit and take in the scenery, and the owners were very helpful and responsive. We went with the idea we would go into Cascade/McCall to get groceries, and it ended up a little further than we thought. Expect about 40 min of driving after you leave the highway at Smith's Ferry. I would suggest bringing everything you want with you for your stay so you can spend your time enjoying the property and exploring rather than driving up and down the mountain! I would love to come back and stay again!

Magic Hideout
We felt like guests in the Pratt Family Private Home vs “renters” in an antiseptic investment property. Our almost 13th ear old girls thought they’d be bored “out in the middle of nowhere”. Far from it! They hit the motherload of huckleberry picking in the Forrest. Even though they didn’t catch any, fishing was a fun activity. They also especially enjoyed s’mores and sleeping in! Wonderful escape from the hectic world. We lived out time here at the Mountain Hide Out!!!!

Relaxing hideaway
This was one of our favorite family trips! Completely isolated from anyone else on 200 acres of private wilderness to explore. The property manager got back to us right away when we contacted him with questions. We loved exploring the trails around the property on mountain bike. We look forward to visiting again!

If you looking to lose yourself in total privacy then this place is perfect!
Hosts were very gracious and easy accessible by phone and text. Very detailed instructions on the use of all amenities. The decor is a little outdated but I believe the home is still used by Grandma & family so we can appreciate this. Make sure you plan a menu and bring groceries. Small market 30 minutes away on mountain roads. Boise is nearest full service grocery store. Also bring plenty of ice. Fridge freezer is Propane and slow to freeze. They do have a large freezer in the basement. Bedrooms were small but beds were very comfortable and cozy! Lots of games and a really nice game room with pool table and darts. If planning on fishing they have what you need except bait. Nice size fish too! The outdoors is so so relaxing and peaceful. Only the sounds of nature. We highly recommend this getaway for sure! Thank you Ken!!

Remote Relaxation
From beginning to end we could not have had a better time. Remote beauty and quietness, that was just what we wanted and got tenfold. The home has so much room and every comfort you need or want. Our exploring the property was a blast. Wilderness galore, Hummingbirds, deer, Widgeon, Mallards, Golden Eyes and Bufflehead ducks. True Idaho beauty. Caught and ate some incredible Rainbow trout from their private pond. Also the Morel Mushrooms were out and we picked some for dinner and breakfast. Delicious! We have stayed at a lot of Mountain and Lake Homes over the years and the Hide Out on Pratt Mountain rates as one of the best ever. Great Hosts, Great accomodations, Fabulous Location. The one down side......we had to leave. That was a bummer. We look forward to our next stay there. Thanks for everything Pratt Family!!!! Tony, Teresa, Chris and Suzan.

Great little getaway!
I went up to the Hideout with my family and a few family friends and it really was the perfect getaway from the city. We had plans to go to the lake but unfortunately there were storms almost the entire weekend so we ended up staying at the cabin the entire time. Let me tell you, this is absolutely the most perfect place to be 'stuck' for a few days, especially if you have children with you. They have a pretty well stocked game room complete with pool, darts, and so many old classic games. We probably spent the most time in that game room playing Sorry! and Chutes and Ladders with our kiddos. There is also a pond with a shed that had life jackets and fishing rods, and bait. My husband spent a couple hours out there but wasn't able to catch any trout. If you're lucky enough to come around the perfect time of the year, you can pick fresh huckleberries as well. I was able to pick enough to make a compote for pancakes and a cobbler too. They were so juicy and sweet- theres a reason why Idaho is well known for their delicuous huckleberries! The trek up to the Hideout is not too bad, but a 4x4 is probably recommended because some of those hills leading up to the house are pretty steep. Ken provides such detailed instructions to get to the house so it was easy to find our way too. There are 3 bedrooms, and although I can't speak for all the rooms, the bed that we had was so comfy and the pillows were some of the comfiest we had ever slept on. I even had to text Ken afterwards to find out where he bought the pillows, ha! There are also two queen sized air mattresses that can be used. I would have to say my favorite thing about my stay was enjoying a cup of coffee out on the deck, watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the view. It really is so breathtaking!

Fabulous mountain views, private, off-the-grid!
No fireworks, peaceful, quiet, tranquil. Wonderful location to hang out with our grown children and celebrate our 5-year-old grandson's birthday. Plenty of room for the 7 of us, stocked with everything we needed for a long fun weekend, including fishing poles for the private, stocked pond. Though the guys didn't catch anything, they had a beautiful morning fishing and bonding. The fire pit was perfect for making snores in the evenings. Mornings were spent on the wraparound deck, drinking coffee and enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Though the hiking trails are fine for the younger set, the terrain is steep and rough for my husband and I in our mid-70's. The beds are comfortable, but it was uncomfortably warm in the upstairs bedrooms, even with fans, there is no A/C. In all fairness, temperatures are running about 15 degrees above the normal average so once this heat wave is over, it should be much better. The host is very nice, sends all information you should know so you can be prepared, and the caretaker was very kind and helpful. Beautiful home, very clean. We would definitely go again.

About the host

Hosted by Ken Pratt

Host profile image
The property has been in the family for 8 generations and 9th is working on learning more every year. Started as a sawmill and cattle ranch for timber and meat for putting in the railroad in southwest Idaho. Later was used for working ranch with hay and cattle grazing. Over the last 150 years the type of trees has gone away from its natural habitat. Our mission is to improve the land for wildlife while restoring the type of trees and vegetation that once made it great in 1845. We are working hard on the 160 acres with active silviculture practices, fire prevention, erosion control, and water quality. We built the Hidden Pond in 1999 and the birds have come to call it home. If you love birds like we do it is great to watch. From a small finch to the bald eagle they all call the pond home.

Why they chose this property

I was lucky to be interested in forestry and have the time and energy to take on the property from my Aunt and Uncle. Growing up on the property over the last 56 years one gets to know every rock, tree, stream, pond and you begin to name the forest. If you walk slow and sit down to listen the forest will talk to you. It is one of the most enjoyable ways to re-charge your batteries from working any type of job.

What makes this property unique

Not being around any other people where one can truly get away from the hustle of life makes this hide out on pratt mountain so relaxing. Putting a nice home up on top of the mountain made even more fun. Nice to get a hot shower, have electricity, running water, and great time to sit down and dine with family. The next morning get up go for a hike up into the US Forest Service to the north for miles and see new areas and have a place to come back. On the walk, wildlife sometimes appears. We have every type of Northwest animals except a grizzly bear and that is fine with me.
