About this property
Host & Stay | Millwood
Summary:
Experience tranquillity at Millwood, a charming retreat near the River Bure. Enjoy activities like swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing, and fishing, or unwind in two beautiful gardens with scenic views. Spot local wildlife, including owls, hedgehogs, and woodpeckers! As the evening cools, head inside and relax by the wood burner for a cosy night. Millwood offers the perfect mix of comfort and adventure!
The Space:
The spacious lounge features a comfy corner sofa, two-seater sofa, and a Smart TV. There’s also a sunroom for morning coffee, and an upstairs playroom with a fold-up bed, TV, board games, and Wi-Fi.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a fridge, freezer, oven, gas hob, dishwasher, and cafetiere. The separate dining room has a large table and ample seating for everyone.
Choose from five bedrooms: a king-size and two doubles on the ground floor, and on the upper floor, a twin room with an ensuite and stunning River Bure views, plus a playroom with a fold-out bed. Please note that the fold-out bed is only deemed suitable for use by children.
There are two ground-floor bathrooms—one with a shower, and the other with a bath and handheld shower. The twin room upstairs has an ensuite with a bath, shower, toilet, and sink.
Enjoy two gardens, with the front offering River Bure views and space for outdoor activities. There’s parking for two cars, a BBQ, and room for dogs to explore the grounds, surrounded by beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property.
The keys to Millwood are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
Parking is available very near to the front door if you need it via a gravelled ramp, so for safety reasons drive slowly if you use this route.
Please be careful when using the exterior steps and patio area at the property. When the slabs are wet, they can become slippery as they're made from natural stone.
Please note that whilst the property is set far back into it's own grounds, the quay opposite is a popular place for people to launch boats, canoes and paddleboards in the summer months.
The Neighborhood:
Millwood is an idyllic riverside retreat perched along the banks of the River Bure, offering guests direct access to a wide range of water activities such as river swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing, and fishing. The river’s beauty can be admired from both the property itself and its grounds, creating a peaceful and scenic environment for relaxation.
Just a few minutes' walk from Millwood, you'll find several local pubs, restaurants, takeaways, and cafés for convenient dining options. If you're up for exploring a bit further, a 15-minute drive will take you to the vibrant city of Norwich, where you’ll find a host of restaurants, including the highly-regarded Roger Hickman’s, which offers a fine dining experience for food lovers. Another culinary treat is found 20 minutes south of Norwich in Stoke Holy Cross, where Stoke Mill Restaurant and The Wildebeest provide exceptional dining experiences.
Norwich is a cultural and historical hub, boasting its own market, a variety of shops (from high street names to independent boutiques), and numerous cafés and restaurants. Be sure to visit Norwich Cathedral, a stunning building dating back to 1145, and the Castle Museum, a fascinating dive into local history. For history buffs, "The Norwich 12" offers a detailed guide to the city’s most historic buildings.
Art lovers should not miss the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia. This world-class museum houses an impressive art collection and features one of the top ten sculpture parks in the UK.
For a nature-filled day trip, the nearby town of Holt, Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, and the various RSPB sites offer great opportunities to see local wildlife and explore the beauty of the Norfolk Broads. Just a 10-minute drive from Millwood, Wroxham is the gateway to the Broads, where you can take a boat tour or hire your own vessel to explore the waterways at your own pace. Before or after your boat trip, enjoy some classic fish and chips at one of Wroxham’s many eateries.
The Norfolk Coast is also within easy reach, about a 25-minute drive from Millwood. Here, you can explore picturesque beaches and charming seaside towns like Cley-next-the-Sea, which is known for its iconic windmill and stunning views across the marshes. For a unique experience, book a meal or even a stay at the windmill. Winterton Beach is another lovely spot, complete with a beachside café, while Blakeney Point offers boat tours to see the seals—be sure to book in advance! The coastal villages are filled with flint-built cottages and churches, providing a quintessential Norfolk experience.
