About this property
Laverock Lodge - Two Bedroom House, Sleeps 4
Situated in the North Pennines National Landscape, this rural retreat bursting with charm and character is the ultimate getaway for couples or families craving an escape with the dogs in tow. This secluded spot is just under 2 miles away from the small, historic village of Eggleston, which is in the River Tees valley and offers some wonderful walks around its traditional village green and winding through its idyllic stone-built cottages. The surrounding Teesdale Valley offers a beautifully unspoilt landscape of wild fells and reservoirs, as well as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in England, High Force (9 miles). Head to the bustling town of Barnard Castle (8 miles) to browse its fabulous independent shops, bars and restaurants showcasing the area’s best local produce before exploring its iconic medieval fortress.
At the heart of this home-from-home, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, accessed through the entrance hallway, offers a true escape from everyday life, bursting with original features including ceiling beams and exposed brickwork reminiscent of times past. Antique-style pieces, authentic country cottage-style decor and a roaring wood burner create a cosy ambience that beckons you to unwind and dine with loved ones. Downstairs you’ll find a handy WC and separate indoor dog shower room, perfect for those travelling with their canine companions. Nestled in the wood-beamed original hayloft, featuring a beautiful picture window that frames rural vistas, upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms, one double and one twin, which echo the rich heritage of the cottage with characterful beams and sloped ceilings. The contemporary family bathroom provides everything you need to kick start a day’s adventure.
Soak up your fresh countryside air by dining alfresco in the enclosed, gravelled garden with the surrounding working sheep farm as your backdrop. Dogs can be exercised in a shared, 6 acre field, which boasts stunning views onto the open fells and the shared dog agility arena (extra charges apply). Outside, you’ll also find ample private parking.
