About this property
Spacious Historic Cottage 2 Bathrooms, Ironbridge Museums, Family-friendly
1-3 Carpenters Row is a comfortable and spacious end-terrace historic cottage conveniently situated for Ironbridge with its industrial history and wonderful woodland, as well as many fascinating destinations in Shropshire and the West Midlands.
Carpenters Row dates back to 1783 and is a Grade 2 listed building, part of the fascinating history of the Ironbridge Gorge. 1-3 Carpenters Row is comfortable and spacious. It sleeps 4 guests in two bedrooms, plus a further 2 guests on a well sprung sofa bed. The location is great for visiting the famous Ironbridge Museums, walking, cycling and sampling the many local pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The Cottage is also an excellent base for exploring further afield in Shropshire and beyond.
The space is flexible, practical and comfortable. The master bedroom has a lovely antique double bed and an en-suite bathroom. The twin room has two single beds which can be zipped together to create one super-king sized bed, so whether you are two couples or a family you will be well catered for. The small double sofa bed in the open plan dining / living room provides yet more flexibility.
Dogs
We do allow responsible dog owners to bring their pets, but would ask that you restrict them to the downstairs open plan area using the child gates provided and do not allow them on the furniture. They must not be left alone in the cottage. Please be aware that the garden is not escape-proof for smaller dogs.
Carpenters Row Cottage comprises:
1 kitchen with dishwasher, oven, gas hob, microwave, kettle, 4 slice toaster, two fridges (with small freezer compartments) and washing machine.
2 bathrooms (1 is en-suite shower room to the master bedroom)
2 bedrooms - 1 with double bed, one with 2 singles which can be joined to make a super-king if desired
27 ft (8.2m) oak beamed open plan living / dining room
log burner and gas central heating
2 comfortable sofas (one of which is a compact double sofa bed)
Small private garden to the side with patio furniture
Terrace along the front
Off road parking for 1 car (other free off-road parking can be found close by)
Garden at side of the cottage is gated and has railings, however we cannot guarantee that it is not dog escape proof!
We provide bed linen, towels, handsoap, shampoo, conditioner, dish washer tablets, tea towels, toilet rolls and a supply of tea bags, instant coffee and sugar. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you need anything particular, a full inventory can be provided.
Accessibility for people with limited mobility - the car parking space is to the rear of the cottage and access to the front door is down a moderately sloping lane, approximately 25 metres. Access to the front door is up 3 sturdy steps. Once inside the cottage, the bedrooms are situated upstairs. The staircase is straight and not particularly steep or narrow. The en-suite bathroom has a walk-in shower (with a small step). There is no downstairs toilet. Please ask if you need any further information or clarification.
The cottage is fully self-contained, so you will need minimal intervention from us. However please feel free to make any enquiries and we will try our best to answer your queries. we will provide phone numbers so if you have any questions during your stay, you can get in touch anytime.
History of the property.
Carpenters Row is an early example of accommodation built specifically by the Coalbrookdale Company to attract a workforce to its employment at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The row originally consisted of eight cottages and two brew houses. The design of the row was symmetrical: numbers 1-5 were mirror images of numbers 6-10. Each house accommodated the workforce using a system of 'hot bedding', workers from one shift occupying the straw mattress beds from the other, approximately 15 persons per house. So at one point in history the three converted houses that you will be staying in would have once housed around 45 workers. Each house also performed a certain function: the brew-house, which is now the kitchen, housed the old cast iron pot which can now be found in the rear garden.
