With Kinder Scout, Lantern Pike, Eccles Pike and Chinley Churn as neighbours, there are so many astonishingly beautiful routes right from the front door, and countless more by car, train, bus or bike. The Peak Forest canal also runs through New Mills – perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, or you could even hire a narrow boat for the day.
We have a bulging folder of routes and possibilities when you stay!

There are many places to visit too, from the caverns of Castleton, to National Trust properties of historic fascination including the unmissable Quarry Bank and Lyme Park. Manchester is a 35-minute train journey away if city sightseeing takes your fancy, with the Bridgewater hall for concerts, theatres, restaurants, art galleries, shopping and more. There are many highly recommended local pubs for a walk and a drink, a pub lunch with a view, or an evening with fine food.

Getting Around:
Birch Vale is a small village located in the High Peak area of Derbyshire, within the Peak District National Park. While the village itself is quite rural, there are several ways to get around Birch Vale and explore the surrounding area, whether you're using public transport, walking, or cycling.

Birch Vale is served by several bus routes connecting it to surrounding towns like New Mills, Glossop, and Hayfield. The main bus stops are located along the A624 and in the village centre. Bus services are generally infrequent, especially on weekends or during off-peak hours, so it’s advisable to check timetables in advance.

The nearest railway station is New Mills Central, 1.2 miles away from Birch Vale. It is served by trains on the Manchester to Sheffield line and offers direct connections to Manchester and Sheffield, as well as other regional destinations. New Mills Newtown is also in reach.

A 25-minute walk, either directly into New Mills or via the Sett Valley Trail as an idyllic walk.

Interaction with Guests:
We're always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
