Tyn-Y-Simdde (Chimney Cottage) is a serene mountainside retreat, rich with history and charm nestled high in the Eryri/Snowdonia National Park.
Its name reflects its storied past, with "Tyn-y-Simdde" once describing a smallholding distinguished by its chimneys—a rare feature in the 1700s. Perched at the end of a private track, offering unmatched seclusion, this cottage overlooks the breathtaking Hermon Valley, with sweeping views toward Cader Idris that make you feel truly atop the mountain.
Inside, the cottage reflects its storied past with a cosy living room, two spacious bedrooms (king, double, and single), and a fully equipped kitchen. Simple yet enchanting, it’s the perfect escape into the wilderness.
While remote, it’s not off-grid—WiFi and modern amenities are provided to ensure a comfortable stay.
Ground Floor:
Kitchen/Diner: Fully equipped with a fridge-freezer, washing machine, toaster and everything you need to prepare meals. A dining area features a table, chairs, and an electric fire for a cosy atmosphere.
Living Area: Relax by the log burner (basket of logs provided, with additional available to order) on one of two comfy sofas. Entertainment includes a TV/DVD player, a HiFi system that plays CDs, functions as a Bluetooth speaker, and a landline telephone for convenience (mobile reception can be sporadic).
First Floor:
Bedroom 1: Spacious room with a king-size bed.
Bedroom 2: Features both a double and a single bed, perfect for families or groups.
Bathroom: A compact but functional shower room.
Outside:
Surrounded by a fenced lawned garden, the cottage provides stunning mountain views and a safe space for pets when the gate is closed. An outdoor table and chairs make alfresco dining a delight, whether enjoying the sunrise with coffee or stargazing under clear night skies. The property also offers parking for 2–3 cars.
This cottage blends historic charm with modern comforts, making it a perfect home base for mountain biking, hiking, or simply savouring the tranquil beauty of Eryri, offering the perfect base to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature.
Guests have full access to the entire cottage, including the private patio and surrounding hillside garden. The property is at the end of a private track, offering complete seclusion. Parking for two cars is available directly outside the cottage. While remote, it’s not off-grid—WiFi and modern amenities are provided to ensure a comfortable stay.
There's an unmade track to the cottage, which is bumpy, so please take care.

This is Eryri (Snowdonia) at its most authentic—untamed, tranquil, and awe-inspiring.
Tyn-Y-Simdde (Chimney Cottage) is set in an idyllic location high in the Coed y Brenin Forest Park, at the heart of Snowdonia National Park. This world-renowned area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering some of the UK’s finest trails for mountain biking, trail running, and walking. With Coed y Brenin as Britain’s first dedicated mountain bike park, you’ll find an extensive network of trails ranging from beginner-friendly loops to adrenaline-fueled downhill runs. The visitor center is just a short drive away, with bike hire, a café, and play areas for families.
For walkers, the area boasts scenic routes through ancient woodlands, waterfalls, and rugged mountain landscapes. The cottage is a great base for exploring Cader Idris, one of Snowdonia’s most iconic peaks, just a short drive away. Whether you’re tackling the summit or enjoying a gentle stroll along one of its lower trails, the views are unforgettable.
The property is also ideally located for spotting the Mach Loop, a famous training ground for low-flying military aircraft. Aviation enthusiasts can enjoy watching jets skim through the valleys in spectacular fashion.
Despite its secluded setting, Tyn-Y-Simdde is just 20 minutes from the coast, allowing you to experience the best of both worlds: rugged mountains and peaceful beaches. Nearby Dolgellau, a charming market town, offers shops, pubs, and dining options, perfect for stocking up or enjoying a meal after a day of adventure.
Whether you’re here for high-energy activities or a quiet retreat immersed in nature, this location offers the ultimate gateway to Snowdonia’s wild beauty.
A car is essential for making the most of your stay at Tyn-Y-Simdde (Chimney Cottage). The property is located at the end of a private track, offering unmatched seclusion, but its remote mountainside setting means public transport is not available. With a car, you can easily explore nearby attractions like Cader Idris, Coed y Brenin Forest Park, and the stunning Snowdonia coastline, all within a short drive. Parking is available on-site for 2–3 vehicles.
This property is perfect for nature lovers seeking to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. The mountain air, wildlife, and vast night skies create a magical setting. While secluded, the coast is only a 20-minute drive, blending rugged wilderness with easy seaside access.
The Wifi provided runs at 8-15 Mbps and is subject to disruption in truly adverse weather. Mobile signal is also intermittent in the area.
There is a TV (with DVD player & DVD's) available for your use at the cottage. This can also be connected to streaming services to use with your own account. Terrestrial TV channels are not available.
