About the host

Host profile image
Hi, I’m Lindsey – and I’m so pleased to welcome you to Poldurra, our countryside retreat on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula.

We built Poldurra (and its sister property, Swallows Rest) from the ground up – doing much of the work ourselves. It was truly a labour of love, and every detail reflects the care, creativity, and passion we’ve poured into making it a warm and relaxing space for our guests.

We live locally and love everything about life here – from walking our dog Dodger along the coast, to enjoying the amazing cafés, pubs and restaurants nearby. I’m also a keen cyclist, and there’s nowhere better than the quiet lanes and coastal paths of the Lizard to explore on two wheels. When I get the chance, I also love heading out with a rod to fish for mackerel and seabass – nothing beats cooking up a fresh catch!

As a host, I really enjoy getting to know our guests – I love hearing where people are from, what brings them here, and sharing local tips to help them make the most of their stay. I'm always happy to practise my Spanish or French too, so feel free to say hello in whichever language you prefer!

In my spare time, I also volunteer at the historic Lizard Wireless Station, where you can learn more about the fascinating Marconi radio transmissions that started right here on the cliffs. I’m a big fan of local music and community events, and you’ll often find me out and about discovering new hidden gems across the peninsula.

Whether you're here for peace and quiet, outdoor adventure, or just a beautiful place to reconnect with nature, I hope you’ll feel right at home at Poldurra. And if you need any help planning your stay or want personal recommendations – just ask!

Why they chose this property

Poldurra sits in the heart of the Cornish countryside, close to the rugged coast, peaceful creeks, and big skies of the Lizard Peninsula. With rolling fields, quiet lanes, and spectacular walking routes all around, it’s a place to slow down and reconnect with nature.

We love the freedom and space here – walking our dog Dodger along coastal paths, cycling the heathlands, or simply watching buzzards soar overhead. The changing light is magical, from golden mornings to pink sunsets and misty sea views.

Food-wise, we’re lucky! Flora Café’s pastries and flatbreads are a post-walk favourite, and Gear Farm pasties really are the best in Cornwall. There’s fish and chips at Coverack, ice cream from Gwella or Roskilly’s, and plenty of great cafés and pubs nearby.

Simple pleasures are the best – wild swimming at Porthallow, kayaking the Helford, or diving Porthkerris shipwrecks. Watching a sunset play at the Minack Theatre is pure magic.

We built Poldurra and nearby Swallows Rest and did much of the work ourselves – a real labour of love. We also love fishing, local music, speaking French and Spanish, and volunteering at the historic Lizard Wireless Station. Meeting guests from around the world is a real joy – and we hope you’ll feel as at home here as we do.

What makes this property unique

Poldurra is more than a holiday home – it’s a carefully crafted countryside retreat, built by us with love and attention to every detail. Unlike many rentals, it offers a personal, handcrafted feel, blending comfort, style, and connection to the surrounding Cornish landscape.

Here’s what sets Poldurra apart:

Built With Heart: We designed and built Poldurra (and its sister property, Swallows Rest) ourselves – a true labour of love. It’s full of thoughtful touches and creative design that reflect our passion for this place.

Unbeatable Setting: Tucked in peaceful countryside yet a few minutes drive from the sea, Poldurra offers both tranquillity and adventure – from coastal walks and dog-friendly trails to wild swimming, kayaking and cycling right on the doorstep.

Stunning Outdoor Space: A private hot tub with countryside views, pizza oven, BBQ, and fire pit make the outside just as special as the inside. It’s perfect for stargazing, slow mornings or sociable evenings under the stars.

Truly Dog-Friendly: With 12 acres of outdoor space and access to some of the best walks in Cornwall – including Frenchman’s Creek – Poldurra is a haven for dog lovers.

Local Food & Hidden Gems: Guests love our personal recommendations – from the best pasties in Cornwall at Gear Farm, to Flora Café’s flatbreads, or fish and chips on Coverack harbour wall.

Personal Hosting: We live nearby and love to help our guests make the most of their stay – whether it’s a custom itinerary, a restaurant tip, or a little local story. We speak English, Spanish and French – and enjoy connecting with guests from around the world.

Beautiful, Natural Interiors: The interior design reflects the Cornish landscape – calm, earthy tones, soft textures, and lots of natural light. It’s luxurious, but never overdone – just peaceful, warm, and inviting.
