About this property

PRISTINE SUNSET LAKE-200' FRONTAGE private dock

We were a Premier VRBO partner before covid (shut down for 3 yrs) with reviews that go back well over 15 yrs. We really make it happen for families. Hundreds of feet of frontage on pristine sunset lake (a quiet lake great for peaceful boating) small sandy beach access to lake and footbridge to large dock 20'X16' - great social spot - bring your fav beach chair (this is your private dock -you cannot see the neighbors). 6 kayaks(one tandem - 3adult singles - two kid size), and one paddle boat round out this great lakefront opportunity - you have to bring your own life preservers - 7 person hot tub at the end of the day

Classy, redecorated contemporary with lots of glass on south side with sliders onto great deck featuring 'hot springs' 7 person hot tub, built-in 'fire king' turbo gas grill, 'telescope' patio set, two fiberglass picnic benches big enough for 6 adults at each and great views of the lake.

Finished basement doubles as a bedroom and recreation room with regulation-size pool table, TV, stereo, etc. We provide a high speed internet wifi. You will have to supply your own linens (pillow cases, sheets, towels ). Dog friendly with prior notice.

This house has it all

Our family of three adults, one teenager, one 9-year-old, and a dog, spent a fabulous week at this lovely home. So much to do at the pristine, quiet lake. We loved the variety of small craft to choose from, and were delighted to watch our dog learn to swim. We grandparents are in our early 70s, and had no problem navigating the short path to the lake, or to walk into the water at the shallow sandy shore. Inside the house we had a great kitchen, comfortable beds, good WiFi and a pool table. The owner was always an email or phone call away, and the one issue we had with a window was resolved promptly. We liked how we never ran out of dishes, flatware, or glasses, and how we had lots of places to spread out to relax and read. The furnishings were very nice, but forgiving for an active family. Highly recommend.

Excellent Vacation Rental

We had an awesome week. The house easily accommodated our 3 generation family vacation. It was clean, well stocked, (plenty of dinner ware and cooking utensils) and had plenty of amenities (sandy beach, dock, kayaks, good fishing, hot tub, sauna, grill, pool table, large deck with view of lake and privacy). Our grand kids loved the lake and had a ball. Cell coverage is poor which we considered a plus for a vacation. The owner, Dick, was very good with communications. All of our children, their spouses and our grand children want to return next year.

GREAT WEEK!

In years past, I have rented a house right on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford. This year, though, we were not able to get that particular house so we decided to give a new area a try. We are glad we did! The house on Sunset Lake was a great size with plenty of sleeping for 8 adults, 1 toddler, and dogs! The house was big enough to spread out for everyone. The extras of a pool table, hot tub, built-in grill, etc. was well received. The pictures don't show but there were 2 picnic tables on the deck along with table/chair set and extra chairs. Plenty of seating so you don't need to bring any extra chairs other than beach chairs. Overall, the deck or parts of the deck were shady most of the day. Also, having 3 televisions in the house with internet was a must for streaming tv, gaming, etc. The beach was a short walk down a path. If anyone has mobility issues, this could be challenging. The lake was clean and quiet. We were able to paddle-board, kayak, etc at any time of day. Be sure to bring water shoes as there are plenty of rocks but nothing a 2 1/2 year old couldn't handle. The host's instructions, directions, prompt reply to email questions, and a couple of phone calls was perfect. As the "ring leader" of my family, I felt like I arrived prepared. Coming from the city, I have to say the house was a little remote. There was no cell phone service at the lake or house so we used internet when necessary. Though it took a little getting used to, we all were happy to unplug for a week (not totally as we could still get online!). It was a little drive (15-20 minutes) to get into the town of Alton for groceries, coffee, ice, restaurant, ice cream etc but we soon got used to it. The property has great amenities and was so relaxing. As in years past, we hired a professional photographer to take family pictures. With the back yard, trees, lake, etc., the pictures were stunning! Thank you to the hosts for providing a wonderful atmosphere and taking good care of us. Overall....GREAT WEEK!

Beautiful Spot

My family, two daughters, their husbands, children and dogs had taken a two year hiatus from staying at the Flaherty’s due to a relocation. We loved returning to Sunset Lake. It’s not as busy as the bigger lakes and it’s surrounded with wild blueberries. Dick and Maureen have a very large dock for sun bathing and their many kayaks let us explore the Lake and pick blueberries. We especially enjoyed the updated refrigerator, stove, and new upstairs king mattress this year.

Great place to unwind with your family

We stayed at the property over the 4th of July and had a great time. Not a overly busy lake which was nice. The kayaks and paddle boat were really fun items for the kids. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Amazing vacation

We traveled to NH with another family - so we were 2 families of 4 (8 people total) sharing this house. The house is spacious and comfortable. The 4 kids (from 6-10) LOVED sleeping in the basement bunkbeds. It is a bit darker down there with no windows, which our kids thought was fun - I could see where it wouldn't work for some younger kids but they had each other all together and loved being together. We did empty the dehumidifier regularly and had no issue with dampness. The adult rooms were really nice and very comfortable. The kitchen is great - I have never rented a house with so many utensils available. I cooked every night and had no problem with everything provided. The grill is great too. The lake is unbelievably beautiful. It is smaller, but crystal clear. The kayaks provided had some that were small enough for our kids to use comfortably and there were plenty for the adults as well. We went out in the kayaks every day. The lake doesn't have a lot of motor boats so you can go out at any time of day. It is calm. Our kids loved visiting the tiny little islands dotted throughout the lake. We had so much fun on this trip -there is easy access to Weir's Beach for a day out - and the drive in is fun. We also hiked up Mt Major which had the most amazing views of Lake Winnepesauke. I can say the pictures don't do the house justice. It is really nice and with 8 people - to say we never felt cramped is saying something. Lastly the hot tub is a really nice perk - our kids loved playing in there in short bursts and the adults enjoyed it when the sun went down. Book this place and enjoy a wonderful vacation!

Beautiful Lake

Very clean house just a short walk to beautiful Sunset Lake. Inside of house is nicer than pictures. All cleaning products, laundry detergent, etc. were provided which was nice. Lake is clear and calm. Very private, however, you can in fact see the neighbors dock from yours. We enjoyed the kayaks, row boat etc & used them daily. Fished too. Also enjoyed the hot tub & pool table. Basement was great for our college kids to sleep in, however, without cable in the basement, the TV use was very limited. No CD player; old VHS player. There is WiFi in basement. I was initially concerned about basement fire egress. You have to go thru another door/room in the basement to access the outside bilco doors for a secondary exit in the event of a fire. (not labeled). That said, I wouldn't utilize the basement for a child. The upstairs master bedroom has a bent screen frame, thus allowing bugs to enter when the window is open (no AC). View of the lake from the house is limited in the summer as there is quite a bit of overgrowth on the property in back & front. There is some litter in the woods (old mop, oily rags on tree) Location is very remote with little to do other than hiking, fishing, etc. No shopping or activities nearby. The owner is very detail oriented providing written instructions relative to the house and checking in periodically throughout the week.

The whole family loved this location!!

Our family spend our summer vacations together. We like trying new locations and this is one of my favorites. The owners were easy to work with and made sure we were happy during our week at their lake house. The house was a perfect set up for the 8 of us. Plenty of room for all of us and offered comfortable hide away spots if you wanted some alone time. We found everything as it showed on the listing and the kids loved having the basement as their bedroom. The location of the house was perfect for us. Not to close to the neighbors but a easy walk down the hill to the lake. Sunset is a pristine lake. It's quiet and perfect for kayaking and fishing. There is plenty of different small boats by the dock to choose from. We travel with our dogs and this was a great spot for them. They had everything they needed. A walk out into the water for our non swimmer. A large boulder a short swim away that they could climb up on. A long dock to enjoy a nap in the sun. Beautiful woods and a yard. All this was enjoyed by their owners too. We found restaurants as well as ice cream and grocery stores close by in Alton Bay. I apologize to Dick and Maureen for not sending this review earlier. But you know we enjoyed ourselves if I still wanted to write how much we enjoyed ourselves eight months later. I highly recommend this rental and hope you give it a try.

Wonderful time on Sunset Lake!

We had a fantastic week on Sunset Lake this past summer! We have spent a lot of time on Newfound and Squam and wanted to check out one of the smaller lakes. What a gem! The lake was warm and perfect for swimming and kayaking. The shoreline was loaded with blueberry bushes - I have never picked so many blueberries! Having kayaks right there was a treat and the dock/beach area is perfect for little kids and adults too. The loon sightings and calls were out of this world. Oh and the hot tub was a major hit! We had two rainy days and jumping in the hot tub after a swim or kayak was perfect :) The house was comfortable, open and provided plenty of space for the 7 of us (6 adults, one 18-month old) who were there. Kitchen has everything you can ask for and there are many cozy places to sit. There are two reasons this is not a 5 stars for us. It is remote....which is lovely on one hand, but we felt quite removed from anything. Even though it was only a 15 minute drive to groceries and a handful of restaurants, it felt very isolated. Which is great if that is what you are looking for! We also thought the basement would be usable for our group, but without a bathroom and with a definite basement feel none of the adults chose to be down there...so the 18-month old was in a room with her parents, but that was fine. The basement would have been perfect for our two teenagers had they come, but they ended up not joining us for that week. This was no fault of the owners, it was just we imagined in our heads! Dick and Maureen could not have more helpful. They were communicative and made sure all was well on check in day. Wonderful people! This truly is a gem of a spot if you seek a good getaway and a quiet, pristine lake!

Beautiful Location

Just got back from a very peaceful week at this home. Love how quiet the location is, including the lake. Sunset lake is crystal clear and extremely calm, perfect for kayaking and swimming. The house is nice, there were only 4 of us, so we did not use downstairs at all. Downstairs is considered the 4th bedroom. It is a bit damp smelling down there. House is very well equipped and comfortable, though I do wish it was a bit cleaner and the outside a bit more cleared- I vacuumed many webs when we arrived, but I realize this is a house in the woods. Hot tub a great addition for the cool evenings! Overall a great week, owners very responsive and I would recommend to anyone seeking a quiet week!

Contacted the owner who was extremely helpful and courteous in answering all my questions. This is a gem of a property.

Great family spot!!

Our family was looking for a place that could accommodate 10 or more people ranging in age from young teens to great-grandparents. This 4 BDRM, 3 BA home fit the bill perfectly! The finished basement with pool table and television provided a place for the younger group to hang out and enjoy active time while the older folks could relax and enjoy the views of the lake from the large living room. A short walk to the private beach and dock provided us with all the amenities for water activity we could ask for. With 6 kayaks, a rowing dinghy and a paddleboat, no one felt left out of the fun. After our time swimming and boating, we all gathered on the large sun deck where there is a 7 person hot tub, picnic tables and a gas grill built into the chimney. (We called it the "turbo grill"). A short drive into Alton Bay puts you right on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. We had a wonderful week here and definitely plan to return next year!

A Great Vacation Week

I stumbled across this house on the Internet and I am very glad I did. I was looking for a spacious home for our yearly family reunion. The house and location exceeded all my expectations. It comfortably fit 8 of us with several beds that were not used. The house is set back from the road in a beautiful area of New Hampshire. The dining room comfortably fit all of us for dinner every night. The kitchen had all the tools to cook dinner with room for several chefs. The rear deck and hot tub were a great place to unwind. Sunset Lake is gorgeous. The walk to the lake through the woods was always beautiful and at the end you find Sunset Lake. The dock is large enough for at least 8 people to relax on. The lake is clean and quiet. We'd spend our nights relaxing outside looking at the stars and listening to the loons. I can't say enough good things about the house and location. The house was spotless upon our arrival. Within a reasonable drive is Wolfsboro and a little further out is Woodstock, so there is plenty to do if you want to get out. Dick was very accommodating and even called us mid week to see how we were. We would absolutely rent this beautiful house from Dick again. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away and spend a very relaxing week.

A great getaway

My family spent a wonderful week in July at Dick and Maureen's home. The house is accommodating in every sense of the word. Our college aged kids slept in the downstairs bunkroom, complete with TV and pool table while the adults claimed the first and second floor rooms. We've rented places previously that claim to sleep 8-10 and it's been tight. This is not the case with Dick and Maureen's home; there is plenty of room for that number. The kitchen is spacious - room for multiple cooks - and the living room is open and comfortable. The home was perfect for us. Sunset Lake is very clean and peaceful. Many evenings you only hear the loons. The Flahertys' home is at the quietest end of an overall quiet lake. One of the nicest attributes of the home is that it's close to Alton Bay and Lake Winnepesaukee and the buzz of summer activity there, but Sunset Lake itself is secluded. So you can have the best of both worlds - big lake activities a few miles away when you want it but peaceful seclusion on Sunset Lake to return to.

Fantastic

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful home. The photos represented the property. Some of our favorite things - large, well equipped kitchen, big, sunny family room, and downstairs pool table/bunk bed area for the teenagers. The lake is crystal clear and on the shallow side so it is safe for kids and amazingly warm. We used the kayaks every day. We also loved the location - about 30 minutes to either Wolfeboro or Gilmanton. The Shaker Village is nearby as well. Dick was a great communicator and a pleasure do deal with. We highly recommend this property!!

Comfortable and happy week

This was our second stay at the house. We stayed for a Christmas before and had such a wonderful time, we decided to go back in the summer. The house has lots of amenities, and keeps both teenagers and younger children happy. The secluded cove is great for swimming and boating, although a little rocky. We loved using the hot tub in the evening and then dunking in the lake afterwards. We did not use the sauna during this visit because it was so warm out, but we used it every day during our winter visit. We also had the family dog with us, who enjoyed it as well. I recommend renting from Dick and Maureen - they keep it clean and are very helpful with questions and the rental process.

Peacful Week

Had a really nice time with daughter and family, including family dog. The house is totally private making for a very peaceful week. The children and dog loved the lake and boats that were available. The house is equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay including filters for the coffee maker. We brought items like paper towels, napkins, foil, s & p, detergent, etc. Didn't need a thing. It all remained in the box and went home with us. The only complaints would be that it would have been nice to have the cob webs and bugs cleaned from the windows and there could have been a little more weed eating around the house to eliminate some of the over growth. We did not use downstairs. The house, though, is lovely. It is very spacious and was comfortable for the six of us, It is decorated very nicely. The owner was always available for help and recommendations about area. Overall, everyone had a delightful time. Children (8 and 12) had plenty to keep them busy and going. Adults enjoyed the lake and boats, the hot tube, and even a bit of fishing.

The house was great! We used the house for a family reunion and there was plenty of room for all of us. Dick, the owner, is very attentive and makes sure that all of your needs are met. We enjoyed the sauna, hot tub, pool table and the large kitchen which is well stocked. The lake was very quiet and we had lots of fun with the kayaks and paddle boat. While the area is a bit remote the grocery store is only about 15 minutes away and only about 20 minutes to Weirs Beach. The house does have a wood stove and wood fireplace, so there is a smell of wood smoke in the house. (if you are allergic to the smell of smoke this could be a concern)

A perfect house in a beautiful location!

This is a wonderful house and a great location! My parents and my fiancees parents celebrated Christmas together this year at the house and we could not have asked for a more perfect accommodation. The large kitchen and open floor layout on the main floor was perfect for cooking, socializing, and hanging out in front of the wood stove. The bedrooms were very large with very comfortable beds, and the downstairs den was perfect for playing pool and additional sleeping space. We also really enjoyed the hot tub and sauna! The location was perfect, near to Gunstock and Mt. Major. Dick was very responsive throughout the whole rental process and was great about making sure we knew where everything was in the house and guiding us through the little things, such as working the hot tub, starting the wood stove, working the grill, etc. I would most definitely recommend this house to anyone and everyone. Again, a perfect house in a beautiful location!

Great!

Great house, great overall experience. The house is very nice and very spacious. The layout is great for plenty of people to be comfortable. We have rented many times, and this was the cleanest and most well-equipped house that we have stayed in. Great kitchen. The owner was very helpful and responsive. The lake is absolutely beautiful. The lake access is a quick trail through the woods down from the house and it is very beautiful and peaceful. Crystal clear water and beautiful views. The dock and swimming are great for children young and old. We spent tons of time swimming and kayaking. We feel very lucky to have found this rental (and we're picky!) We wished there was a little more to do nearby. We hiked Mt Major. Nice, short hike.

Three Generation Retreat--Chapter Two

We had stayed at this property during the summer of 2011, and decided to repeat the experience this year. The only difference was that we increased the number of guests, by inviting our 13 year old grand-daughter from Texas to join us. The home accommodated 9 of us perfectly. In fact, we could have had one more guest with no problem with sleeping arrangements. Again, very private home, with a private dock and private swimming area is great for not only younger children but teen-agers as well. The rental comes with 6 kayaks and one paddle boat, which provide terrific entertainment for the younger of our group, as well as the senior citizens in the family. Introducing young children and teens to fishing is a wonderful experience, and the first time they catch a bass or sunfish is fun to watch. And, a real bonus is that if the younger set tires of fishing, swimming or boating, there are amusements and rides available at Weirs Beach, which is only a 20 minute drive away from the home on Sunset Lake. The towns of Alton and Alton Bay are a 5 minute drive from the home, and offer numerous restaurants and grocery stores for eating out and shopping for cooking in. And, speaking of cooking in, the kitchen in the home is spacious, and is equipped with everything one would need to prepare gourmet meals or great luncheons. In addition, there is a large gas grill on the rear porch/patio, which is great for grilling everything from fresh fish to lobsters and of course steaks. In fact, the entire home is well equipped for gracious vacation living, with adequate space for sleeping, having family games such as puzzles and poker, and also space to just get away and relax when needed. The lower level has a regulation-size pool table, which is a magnet for teens learning the fine art of billiards. The home is equipped with everything that Dick and Maureen advertise, and if it is not available, just ask them and they will take care of your request. They are gracious hosts and are pleased when renters utilize all the amenities that are available. And one must not forget the large hot tub, also located on the rear porch/patio. This is an ideal spot in which to sit and look at the lake, and reflect on what things you did that day, and what your plans are for tomorrow. The grandkids loved the hot tub. Just be sure to call Dick for driving directions before heading for Sunset Lake and the house, because it is so private that directions are very helpful. Enjoy!!!
