The new canal waterfront park is right outside the back gate and parking area; the beach and all Lewes just steps away! For fall and winter visitors, there is a working fireplace!
More on the house: The carriage house has a rustic bedroom with through ventilation under the eaves and a tin roof on the 2nd floor. The 2nd and 3rd floor rear bedrooms in the main house provide views of the canal. The fireplace in the living room warms up any chilly evenings. Televisions with Dish TV and surround-sound are located in the living room and carriage house. There are VCR and CD/DVD players in both houses and in the attic for the kids; and wireless DSL and a printer/fax machine. The house has well appointed bedrooms, a galley kitchen just off the dining room with modern appliances, including a Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and disposal. Customary kitchenware includes everything you need for boiled lobster or steak and salmon on the grill. Laundry is in the basement with entry from the garden. Bike parking rack,hammock, herb garden for your cooking next to the grill, and outdoor shower. There is dedicated parking outside the back gate for 2 midsize cars.
Entertainment: Weekly and seasonal parking passes at Henlopen State Park Beach are inexpensive You may walk or bicycle into the Park for free. Breakwater Harbor Beach (aka Town Beach; by the Dairy Queen) is free and a great spot for toddlers or others who prefer less vigorous swimming. Rehobeth and Dewey Beaches, the boardwalk, outlet malls, movies, and more restaurants are 5 - 15 minutes south on Route 1. These beaches offer the fun of the boardwalk in addition to good ocean swimming and lifeguards. Parking is generally readily available at street meters or in lots. Fishing, dinner cruises, rentals and whale watching are available just across the Canal. Cape May Ferry takes you across the mouth of the Delaware River to historic Cape May.
historic district: Lewes has a vibrant Historic DIstrict with lovely Victorian homes. Some are converted to businesses but most are lived-in.
213 and 215 Second St were built together for 2 generations of the same family; the houses share a wall but all rooms, systems and gardens are separate. The original carriage house (with its horse weathervane) is in our garden. A retired couple-former teachers- have owned 215 for many years and live there during the summer.
