We do have PFD’s that will fit a teenager however, you may want to bring your own to make sure you have one that fits correctly for an adult or small child. The river is within a short walk. We ask people not to park in the grass or down at the river.

Perfect little cabin

Sadly we were going back and forth to the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington (About 45 mins away) to show so were were leaving before 6AM most days and getting back around 5pm so we did not have enough time to explore around the cabin. The location is just lovely and the cabin is well appointed, comfy and cozy. It is the type of place where you want to curl up on the sofa and read a book. This is a perfect spot to go up and see the lovely leaves in the fall and visit Goshen and Warm Springs. I am thinking about getting back up soon so we can explaore the area more.

Charming, away from it all property with tennis courts and fun amenities

We had a wonderful Easter weekend with our family staying in the charming, clean, well-stocked Cabell Cottage. We played basketball and tennis, and explored the beautiful property along the Cowpasture River. The kitchen was well-stocked to make an Easter dinner feast to feed a group of college kids. We left with wonderful memories and look forward to a future stay.

Dream Cabin

We found our dream cabin this past summer, nestled in the woods of Virginia, within walking distance of the beautiful pristine waters of the Cowpasture River. The cabin has acquired a rich patina, that is reflected in the beautifully decorated rooms by well placed antiques that capture the overall felling of age and charm. Not only is the cabin pleasing to the eye, its fully equipped with all the conveniences of modern day living. In this secluded hideaway, one can experience the joys of nature and be able to return to the comforts of home at Cabell Cottage. I left a happy camper and I'm eager to return!

The perfect getaway!!!

I spent a long weekend there with some friends, and it was the perfect getaway. The cottage is so comfy, and well appointed - we had everything we needed. The owner was very accessible, and communication was great on all arrangements. The front porch is a great place to read or have a cocktail, and the tennis courts, walking paths, and river are right there for some additional activities! I cant wait to go back!!!

Most wonderful cabin ever--perfect for families!

I have stayed at Cabell Cottage for the past 4 summers and love it! It is cozy and comfortable with room enough for a family of 6. It has all the modern conveniences with the feel of a rustic country cabin surrounded by the beautiful surroundings of Camp Mont Shenandoah. Sit on the porch and enjoy bird watching or explore the beautiful Cowpasture River!

Bath County Shangri-La

You can tell from the minute you walk in that Cabell Cottage is a place designed and decorated for living full-time, not just some slapdash rental staged for photos. It's beautifully appointed with art and antiques, but also cozy and approachable, with comfortable furniture you sink into, plush rugs, and wood paneling in the snug family room. It feels like a real home away from your home. In warm weather, be sure to open the windows at night to hear the tree frogs lull you to sleep! Walk down the hill to swim or tube in the cool, green waters of the Cowpasture River. Play a round of tennis on the courts right outside the cottage. A little further afield, drive west and go hiking for spectacular birdseye views of the Alleghany Mountains and the George Washington National Forest. Then come back and make dinner in the kitchen at Cabell Cottage--they have everything you need if you want to eat in. Just be sure to make time to enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine on the porch--in one of the rocking chairs, as the universe intended. I can think of no finer way to unplug than to pack a bag with books and wine and comfy clothes, and head to the quiet, charming Cabell Cottage. Breathe out. You're in Bath County now.

Coziest place to stay!

I have stayed at Cabell Cottage many times and absolutely adore it. It is so cozy and comfy with all of the amenities! I have spent many nights catching up with my family on the porch or having a glass of wine in the living room. It is a great spot within one of the best pieces of land in the world!

A great place to stay with friends and family

We had a great time at Cabell Cottage over an early fall long weekend that was both sunny and warm. The cottage is complete with all the comforts of home and includes comfortable seating in the living room, a nice TV, and a great kitchen. The high-speed internet was a bonus. We enjoyed relaxing with friends on the porch and down by the scenic Cowpasture River. The river was perfect for canoeing or casting out a line. The scenery at Mont Shenandoah can’t be beat and we had fun playing tennis and hiking with friends. Although it is very quiet (compared to the city noise we hear daily), Mont Shenandoah and the Cabell Cottage were easy to locate and a very pleasant drive. The owner could not have been more hospitable or enjoyable to talk with and really knows the area well. When we come back in the future, we hope the cottage will be available for us to book again for a longer stay. Without a doubt, this cottage gets 5 stars.

Beautiful, well-appointed, comfortable

A group of friends and I stayed here for a weekend reunion, and we couldn't have been more satisfied with the experience. The cabin is charming, clean, and well-appointed, and we had absolutely everything that we needed. Six of us stayed, and everyone had a bed -- so it fits quite a group! The setting is absolutely gorgeous, and we enjoyed walking around the camp, relaxing outside, and simply having the space to be together and catch up. We went into nearby Hot Springs (about a 30 minute drive) and enjoyed dinner one night; the other night, we prepared dinner in the cabin's kitchen, which had everything that we needed to do so. The scenery in Bath County is absolutely incomparable, and we spent some quality time driving around and enjoying the beautiful mountain views. Highly recommend this rental and will absolutely be back to repeat our wonderful experience there! Many thanks to Ann, who was available during our stay to answer questions and provide recommendations for nearby activities we might enjoy.
