About this property

Enjoy Amazing Sunsets, Relax on Beal's Cove, Ocean View

* A note about rentals for summer 2020 -- The house is shared by a large extended family who first decide when they would like to be at the house before confirming other rentals. Due to COVID-19, we are trying to keep the house empty in between rentals for 1-3 days and so we would appreciate letting us know if you have any flexibility in your rental dates. If you are interested in renting during this time, please send me a message instead and I will get back to you as soon as I know what availability of the house will be. Thank you!*

Our family house, 'Treetops' sits on a hill overlooking the ocean and Harpswell Sound which is part of Casco Bay. With a large wrap-around porch, it is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails on a summer evening and watch the sun set over the Sound in front of you and Mount Washington, NH in the distance.

Our house sits on Beal's Cove, part of Harpswell Sound, giving guests a perfect protected cove to play around in the water. There is a small deck situated on water's edge allowing for a wonderful picnic or viewing platform as the kids swim out to the float, frolic in the water or skip rocks to their hearts content. This is also a perfect launching pad for canoes, kayaks, and boats.

The house was built in the early 1900's, but newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms offer modern day comforts to complement the old Maine charm. Rooms include a den/study, living room, separate dining room, and the new spacious eat-in kitchen - all with great water views! Also, the house offers plenty of sleeping space (see above). Working fireplace in living room and gas fireplace in kitchen take the nip out of potentially chilly mornings or evenings. Family photos and details throughout.

Also offers abundant land for outdoor games & shared tennis court.

Buy some lobsters from the local lobstermen and cook up a meal that you will never forget. Don't be surprised if you don't want to leave the house all week! Plenty of sleeping space, makes it perfect for a family reunion or get-together with friends. There are four bedrooms, 1 with queen bed, 1 with full bed, 2 with 2 twin beds. Plus 1 bunk room with 6 bunks - perfect for kids of all ages. Pillows and blankets included, linens and towels are not. Food/grocery and sundries stores are easily accessible.

0ld Maine charming!
One of the best VRBO properties I have ever had the pleasure of renting. It is a lovely family summer home with much old Maine charm. The views and sunsets on Beals Cove are fabulous. This property has everything you could possibly want or need. The new kitchen is a dream! Adorable bedrooms, cozy living room and sweet wrap around porch are a delight. Lots of space for everyone. We were very happy to be here for three nights. Not long enough! Can’t wait for a stay next year.

OCEAN VIEW
Our family stayed at this beautiful property in September 2023. Private and off the road. It is very spacious and lots of amenities. Kitchen was stocked with everything that was necessary to cook and eat for all. The 4 bedrooms upstairs sleep 8 and the bunk room has space for 6 kids/children. Has a pull out couch in the back room that overlooks Beal's Cove. A beautiful view to wake up to and a gorgeous sunset from the porch. We spent a lot of time out on the porch just soaking up the view and talking. We utilized the livingroom fireplace and propane stove in the kitchen in the mornings and evenings, as it was a bit chilly while we were there at those times. Had a fire outside in the fire pit a couple of the evenings. Great to sit and watch the sunset by a nice fire on a brisk evening by the water. The host was great with communication. Thank you so much Patty for a great experience! Our family enjoyed our stay in your wonderful family home.

A Slice of Heaven on Orr's Island
Accommodations are rustic but lovely (and historic!), and the area is incredibly beautiful. Tons of beds so great for a big group. Beautiful views, excellent local seafood and produce, and swimming off the dock every day! Don't forget to go to Black Sheep for excellent wines and house made chocolates.

Beautiful house with great views!
We stayed at this property for a weekend because of its proximity to our friends wedding venue. This house worked really well for big groups as there were a lot of places for people to hang out and relax. The view is gorgeous!

Our stay in October
We had a very pleasant stay on Orr's Island. The views were fantastic and there was plenty of room for our group of 14 to spread out. You do have neighbors, but there are plenty of trees so you feel secluded. The kitchen was well stocked. This is an older house and the walls are thin, so make sure you're going with people you really like.

Family Vacation
As soon as I walked in the door, I began to relax. This was a great week, weather was great, the kitchen had everything we needed, plenty of space to gather and talk as well. We used the porch for meals and enjoyed the water even though it is a bit of a hike down the path. The deck and swimming dock were great. We also enjoyed looking for treasures on the beach at low tide, kayaked and rented a paddle board from H2Outfitters for the week. Cooked our own lobsters. Fixed most of our meals but discovered Salt Cod Cafe just down the road before the cribstone bridge. Yummy scones, chowder, and lobster rolls. The WiFi is a little slow and no TV but we made out fine. An extra egg carton on the two bigger beds would be good to add. Overall we enjoyed our week and everyone said they would come again. Thanks for a great place to stay.

Wonderful peaceful vacation.
We had a very nice time. There were no keys given to us for the property, and we were not able to lock a couple of the doors. It’s pretty safe there, but I would have felt better locking up our valuables. We’ve stayed there before and would come back.

Perfect Maine family vacation house
Classic older Maine vacation house with lots of character and history, spacious common areas with long porch overlooking the cove, and large waterfront area with deck right by the water. Very private. The place easily handled four couples on a family reunion. Bedrooms are small and walls are uninsulated but beds are comfortable and we all slept well. The kitchen is large and well equipped. This area of Maine is great, lots of picturesque coves and seafood, but only an hour from Portland and good shopping quite close in Brewster. Very enthusiastic recommendation.

This is Maine!
Honestly this is Maine!! The views, the home, and the opportunity to see sights and enjoy all that Maine is. It is a great location to beaches, sights and encourages you to cook some meals at home and enjoy family time around the tables. Visit this location even if you have a smaller group because it is so special and holds such amazing history you cannot miss.

A slice of heaven on Casco Bay
Where to begin! The Treetops, as this property is known, is absolutely stunning. This historic house, built around 1910, comfortably housed our three families for the entirety of our stay. One large room had 6 bunks (one with a secret door to it which the kids loved), two had two twin beds, and another two had larger beds. Additionally, there were three couches one of which pulled out. Two bathrooms and an outdoor shower made things easy for our large group. The house itself felt like a home away from home for us, as it was stocked with books and magazines seemingly gathered since 1910. My son read a novel signed to the family by the author in 1908 and my niece re-read the Harry Potter series. It was incredible to be able to pick up a National Geographic magazine from 1925 and read it on a wrap-around porch with gorgeous views of Casco Bay. The sun sets directly across the water from the porch, making it one of the greatest features of the property. If you're brave enough to go swimming, the cove in front of the home with a private swimming dock was amazing. Crystal clear like the rest of Casco Bay, and if you don't feel like swimming it was a nice place to relax. The home's location was perfect, it felt secluded and was right off the main island road so day trips were easy. A mile or so down the road was the Salt Cod Café, whose scones and lobster rolls cannot be recommended enough. (Check TripAdvisor, I'm telling you). If you're into adventure, rent kayaks and paddle boards from H2Outfitters next to the Salt Cod and paddle over to the house. As I've said, the house exudes a peaceful charm of days gone-by, and it is evident from every tiny detail waiting to be discovered that this is a special place treasured by the family that built it. To this day they reside in houses nearby and are available to renters should questions or issues arise. Our interactions with Bob and Judy (the owners and members of the family that built the house in 1910), were exceedingly pleasant. It was evident they cared about our trip and wanted our family to experience the same magic that theirs had in the Treetops for the last hundred years. This truly is a special place, owned by special people, and no trip to Casco Bay would be the same without a stay at the Treetops. -Karen B.

A fantastic, amazing... family reunion paradise
Treetops exceeded our expectations in every way. The huge kitchen allowed us to cook large family meals, the rooms are perfect with bunks for the kids. An outdoor fire pit was one of the highlights as we watched outdoor movies by the fire. The grounds, dock area and lawn allowed for endless games of lawn golf, wiffle ball and tennis. Bob Arndt is a pleasure to do business with and you will never find a place so spectacular in every way. Comfortable porch chairs for rocking and every possible kitchen utensil you can think of is there. Here is a little video showing some of our family fun at this tremendous property. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcbTIMZ4XMY

Magical Maine House
We had an absolutely wonderful week staying at Treetops. I thought it looked good in the pictures, but I have to say they do not do the place justice. The house is charming and surprisingly spacious, the porch (with its great view and many rocking chairs) is perfect, the yard is vast and equipped with games, hammock and fire pit, and there is a very lovely dock from which to swim or just sit and gaze at the water. I really can't say enough about how much every one of us loved this spot. I hope to return!

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth
There is absolutely nothing like swimming/rowing around in your own secluded cove. We were there at sunrise, sunset, and all the times in between. We even swam in the moonlight! The pictures definitely don't do this place justice. It is warm and clean and cozy, with photographs of the Arndt family from many generations! The perfect family getaway. I wish I could live there year round!

Perfect Property for Family Reunion
We held a long time coming, family reunion at Tree Tops. The property was perfect for the large group and for a lobster bake on a beautiful evening with the sunset blazing to top off the evening. The house was a typical Maine vacation house in that it was something right out of a book. However, the water quality in the house was very poor. There was a very high content of iron and sulphur. The sulphur gave a very unpleasant odor and the iron left stains on our clothes and towels. There needs to be a water treatment for the house. We would love to stay again but only if the water problem is rectified. I would recommend this property if the water was treated.
