Lake Superior Beach Cottage: Relax at the Beach Instead of a Hotel

Charming Michigan cottage just steps away from Lake Superior and your own private beach! The view is spectacular - especially for sunrise and sunset..

The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a queen and the other with a king that can be made up as 2 twins. It has one full bath, a nicely equipped kitchen, and washer/dryer in the basement. There is a great room with a table for four and a living room complete with games, puzzles, and books. A glassed-in deck faces the lake with table and chairs for enjoying the view. A gas furnace will heat the cottage during the cooler nights or days. Bed linens & towels are provided for bed, bath and kitchen. Beach towels are also included. The cabin has its own Wifi.

The cottage is ten minutes from Marquette. This quaint, clean, 600-square foot lakefront cabin is on a quiet, 1 acre, very private site, with 150 feet of beachfront. The lake offers great swimming, fishing, and boating in the summer. The camp is easily accessible on a residential road which allows for safe walking or biking.

Comfortable and welcoming; you will want to return year after year!

Another Superior stay at the beach!

We love staying at the cute and comfortable beach cottage on the best lake in the whole! The host was very responsive and helpful! We enjoyed our time on the beach, hiking, biking, and celebrating the fourth in the beautiful town of Marquette. We look forward to our next visit! The host was very responsive and helpful!

Home on the Beach

This is our 3rd or 4th stay at Heather’s cottage. Each time we pull in the driveway I can feel my entire body start to relax. We love spending time near Marquette. Location is perfect for activities in and around town. And having a beautiful sugar sand beach out your back door can’t be beat. We are looking forward to our next visit v

Next Chapter Happy Place on the Beach

We enjoyed another wonderful stay in the cozy cottage on the beautiful sandy beach. We took long walks and read on the beach. The place is close to downtown Marquette with all its delicious restaurants, fun shops, and activities. We biked, hiked, and swam in Lake Superior. Thank you to our host Heather who was responsive and welcoming. We will be back!

Close to town with a private beach

The location is superb, minutes from town with a private white sand beach just steps away. Host Heather M. was gracious and helpful, accommodating our constantly changing flight schedule that resulted from the CrowdStrike computer debacle. The cabin itself is small and very tight. For example, our kingsize bed filled the main bedroom from wall to wall. And one must pass through the second bedroom to get to the main bedroom. On a brighter note, the cabin provides an authentic U.P. camp experience, and there are a brand new washer and dryer in the basement.

It’s a Winner!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at the cabin on Lake Superior. The beach is sandy, with lots of space for walking. Cleanliness, quiet, and comfortable beds are important to us and the cabin checked all the boxes for those. Linens were very nice. You get both the sunrise and the sunset which we loved. Our host Heather was attentive, efficient, and friendly, never intrusive. It’s a winner!

Comfortable, if quaint, beachside lodging for a great price

This is an excellent rental if you're looking for a cottage with beach access, easy access to Marquette and other lovely areas in the UP, and don't want to break your budget! Our host was very friendly and helpful through the check-in process, giving a great tour of the cottage. The heat and air conditioning both work great, as we had to use both of them during our stay - the upper peninsula has some impressive temperature swings throughout the day! The bedrooms and bathroom were also well equipped with comfortable beds, great towels, and tasteful decor. The living room and front room were a little lacking, with a hard bench to sit on at the main table and an uncomfortable couch. The rest of the seating (a recliner and some chairs in the front room) were comfortable but basic. These were hardly deal breakers at all, we just have been spoiled by nice couches back home :) . Overall this is a place I'd gladly recommend to people for a summer stay in Marquette and hope to rent again.

Lovely cottage near Lake Superior

We really enjoyed our week near Marquette! The cottage is perfect — very comfortable, well stocked, beautiful view from the front porch, easy beach access and in a convenient location. Short drives to excellent cycling and hiking and to amazing Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It was nice to have use of a washer and dryer during our visit. Thanks to Heather for sharing this wonderful cottage!

Amazing beach, quiet location-

This cottage was very quiet and private, in spite of it being snuggled in with other homes close by. The trees and dune really gave us a lot of privacy. The beach is AMAZING, with 180 degree views of Lake Superior, so you can see both the sunrise and sunset when we were there in July. Comfortable beds and seating. The kitchen is small, with a limited amount of space for cooking--this is not so much a criticism as a tip! Bring meals you make ahead and pop them in the microwave, or visit one of the great restaurants in Marquette--keep dining simple. We hiked or rode our bikes everyday on the very accessible trails nearby, enjoyed the great brew pubs, and the Farmer's Market in downtown Marquette.

Great stay outside of Marquette MI

Great location. Close to all the attractions around Marquette. The painted rocks were only about 45 minutes away from home. Steps away from a very private beach. Only seen a couple people during our whole stay. Home was very clean and spacious. Heather was very accommodating in letting us check in early. There were fresh cut lilacs on the table. Would recommend this property.

On the Shore of Kitchi-Gami

Was a seamless process from reserving, checking in, our stay, and checking out. Host Heather very accurately described their rental and there were no surprises. She even arranged for some 80-degree weather perfect for Lake Superior swimming - no small feat in the UP of Michigan in September.

Lake Superior beach vacation

Loved spending a week at a cottage on the beach. We watched sunsets in the evening by the water and rode bikes into Marquette several days. It was an easy day trip to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Lake Superior at your doorstep…what more do you need?

The place was clean and easily located. Even though you could not see the beach or lake from the cabin, you could hear it. Caring about the dune outside the cabin showed a compassion for the environment, we appreciated. Having your own private beach essentially on which to swim was wonderful. Superior was a spectacular host for swimming and enjoying the lake. There is even a resident Bald arable, which we saw a few times on our stay and flew right in front of me the final morning, as if to say “goodbye, and we hope you had a nice stay.” As a host, Heather was attentive to our needs and we also appreciated that. Don’t mind her chickens next door, as they were very well behaved! We highly recommend this cabin, for its location, private beach and swimming (you absolutely must swim in Superior), and locale to fantastic food (please try the Brownstone by Au Train, it is a local legend and well worth it; we’ve been going since I was a kid). Quiet, swimming and restful. This was a wonderful trip.

LOVELY home and location!

We enjoyed our retreat in this lovely home on Lake Superior. Everything was clean, the beds we so comfy, and the kitchen was well stocked. The view from the cool porch was beautiful and we truly felt like we had the gorgeous shoreline entirely to ourselves. The house is located in the perfect spot for visits to Marquette, Munising, Grand Marais and we even took a trip to Copper Harbor. Heather was very welcoming and didn't even laugh when I locked us out of the house. :) I definitely plan to return.

Only a few steps from the beach!

Great location for our family with 2 elementary-school-aged boys. Daily beach visits were mandatory, regardless of weather, and provided hours-long entertainment between playing in the sand, the surf, the water, or flying kites. The cabin is well-stocked, with a renovated kitchen and bathroom. The furniture in the living room and sun room could use a make-over. There is WiFi access in the cabin and it worked great. Overall, a great place to stay to explore the many outdoor activities that Marquette and surrounding area has to offer.

Adorable, well maintained cottage in a quiet location but close to Marquette.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was clean, well stocked with essentials and comfortable. It's a short walk on the property to the beach and close to the Iron Ore Heritage trail. It was quite private and n a quiet area but close to lots of fun stuff to see and do. If we had any questions or needed something, the owners where easy to contact. We really enjoyed our 2 week stay there and would definitely stay there again.

As advertised - cosy cabin

Quiet cabin just feet from Lake Superior. Simple but clean, and equipped with all the basic necessities. Was worried about connectivity since we were working remotely during our stay but the wi-fi was wonderful. Check in/out was a piece of cake.

Perfect Vacation Spot

We’ve stayed here 4 or 5 times (this was our 2nd visit this year). The cottage feels like home. We’re close to all of the things we like to do in and around Marquette. We recommend Heather’s cottage to friends and family who ask for places to stay in the UP. This is the place to stay - hands down!

Great location. Cozy.

This was in a great location for Marquette and the Pictured Rock area. The cottage is cozy but has plenty of room. Made use of the closed in porch for rainy day reading. We had 2 deer eating in the yard. Sunrise is beautiful! Everything was very clean. Outside seating and a clean beach was a plus. Does not have a t.v. but we really didn't miss it. There is so much to do in the area and nice to sit on the beach or the porch. Don't worry about the owners being next door. They are there if you need anything but you have your privacy. Only thing I might recommend is a house number sign closer to the road. Can be a little tricky to find the first time.

A Local Look at Marquette
You could ask a dozen people why they like the area and get twelve different answers. But everyone would agree that, in part, “It’s the people.” Folks who have settled here tend be either born and raised Yoopers, or transplants that stay because of the myriad business and recreational opportunities available to them.
There are legions of local businesses, clubs, and organizations – formal and informal – designed around the pursuit of passion. Recreation is included in that list and most folks engage in several forms. At a minimum, some would say, it’s mandatory to survive the long winters.
There’s a shared experience living here that you won’t find in larger cities. To some extent, I think it reflects the “sisu,” or grit, needed to make it through our long winters. There’s a vague resemblance to that family vacation where everything went wrong and it wasn’t that fun at the time but now everyone laughs at it and remembers if fondly? Still, more than a few insist winter is their favorite season. It’s wonderful to have actual snow to get out and play in. Hence, the popularity of the Upper Peninsula for snowmobiling, Nordic and alpine skiing, ski jumping, dog sled racing, etc.
Also, it’s an understated luxury to live here and have only a short drive to a ski hill, or a trail head, or the university. Unlike large cities, where you live in suburbia and spend hours on the weekend driving to the golf course or the beach, in Marquette you can go there after work. This immediate proximity to your recreational choices helps turn your passions into a lifestyle.
Maybe that’s why the city has been designated one of “America’s Most Livable Communities” and one of the “Best Small Cities in America” by Nerdwallet. It’s also a “Bicycle Friendly Community” by the League of American Bicyclists, a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation, ranked in the “Top 200 Towns for Sportsmen” by Outside Magazine, is one of the “Ten Winter Wonderlands for Retirement” by

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property three years ago. It is right next door to our home - of thirty years -and we know and love the people who owned it before us. Purchasing and renting the cottage allows us to buffer our land and to use and offer this charming, scenic place to others so they too can experience the peaceful, joyful life of Lake Superior living.
