BEWARE
We booked and paid for this home over a year in advance for our cadet's USMA graduation. We received our confirmation through VRBO a few days in advance but the host did not respond or provide check in details. VRBO said that many hosts wait until the day of to give arrival details. After a long day of travel, we call the host again. She does not answer, but sends a text response saying that she will 'call back in a little bit'. We attend our first event and head over to the house that evening after the event, hoping that I missed her callback due to the poor cell service in the area. When we arrived only to find out that the host was still living in the home. She claimed that she thought we had canceled. How she could possibly mistake my many, many messages asking for check in info for a home that was booked and paid for 16 months in advance is beyond my understanding. In addition, another cadet's family also was able to book this same property for the same dates and canceled for the same reason (hosts still living in home) earlier in the day and was in the process of trying to get a refund. How this 'mistake' could have occurred, and how this property could have been double booked through VRBO is beyond me.

Owners leave property unlocked. Felt Unsafe. Left w/o Staying.
We had safety concerns at this property and left without entering the house. The roads into the area are rutted and single lane. Several times we had to pull over or into a driveway to let another car or truck pass. From owner: "Old Albany Post Road is a gravel road [usually well maintained – but rutted after heavy rains". After we finally arrived at the house, the car is parked some distance from the house. You must walk over an extremely uneven stone walkway. We were unable to walk safely and carry our suitcases - they cannot be wheeled over the stones. Finally, we decided it was not safe to enter an unlocked house in the evening. From owner: "Front door key is under the raccoon to the left of the front door. Please replace the key under the raccoon as soon as you open the door. It is our only key. If by any chance you find yourself locked out, go to the back door. It is never locked." Had we been informed of these limitations and conditions prior to our being unable to cancel, we would have cancelled our reservation. However, these instructions were not sent until after the no refund date passed. Concerned for our safety, we sought other accommodations which was difficult during leaf peeping season. Owners should ensure the safety of their guests. Leaving houses unlocked is never acceptable.

Woodland Retreat
The woodsy setting was beautiful...quiet and full of colorful Fall foliage. The house was not as expected. There is no outdoor sitting area even though the photographs on the website displayed an outdoor deck. Sitting outside was not possible. The interior of the home had a musty smell throughout. The place did not feel fresh or particularly clean. For example ,the soaps in the showers looked used, floor mats in bathrooms were soiled, and the kitchen sink area had broken used bits of soap and funky sponges. The house and furnishings are very dated.

Fun family weekend
We loved our extra-long weekend at Rima's house, especially dinners on the large screen porch, watching birds take turns at the multiple feeders around the property, playing games around the coffee table in the living room, reading in the chair with views of the rock garden and humming birds, and napping in the hammock on the porch! During the day we explored different towns along the Hudson River but were always happy to come back to the house as night fell, the crickets (?) tuned up their orchestra, and the coyotes called to each other in the distance. This property is a great home base from which to explore the area on foot if you like to hike or in a car if you want to go farther afield. Fun!

Peaceful spot in the woods
The house is in a very peaceful setting in the woods surrounded by nature and gave our family a relaxing, nice place to gather. The 3 season porch is beautiful. There are birdfeeders with an abundance of birds. Rima was really easy to work with. The house is further from West Point than I appreciated and the roads leading up to the house are challenging.

The house was cozy and enjoyable
The only reason we did not rate five stars was that four out of five days we did not have cable or internet. This was due to the weather and no fault of the owners. Rima was very responsive and apologetic to these issues. The beds were comfortable, the scenery beautiful and we would definitely recommend this home to others. Thank you for sharing.

A wonderful gem!
We had a cadet participating in a sports event at West Point and wanted something different than the standard hotel road trip. We had a stressful day commuting up but the drive from La Guardia was simple and the fall leaf colors were spectacular. Although it was mostly dark when we arrived the directions were not hard. Boy you feel you are far from the hustle and bustle of the city in the beautiful woods and forest. The house is filled with books, and music, and comfortable seats for reading and relaxing. For me, this place would be what it would be like if someone had gone into my brain and then created for me the perfect restful cabin. West Point is an easy drive, and our cadet immediately relaxed here after the sporting event. It is so different from the dorm, or standard hotels. We had good meals and wonderful hikes and board games by a nice fire.. I highly recommend this place and secretly hope that we will have the opportunity again next year to come and spend a long weekend..

Great Location - Lovely Setting
Three of us stayed here for a week and used the house as a base while we hiked the Appalachian Trail through New York. The house is centrally located between Connecticut and New Jersey and right down the road from an AT trailhead, so it was perfectly located for our hikes. The house itself has lovely furnishings that fulfill the promise of the pictures in its description. The kitchen is well-equipped. Unlike kitchens in many other houses we have rented, this kitchen has quality utensils and even All-Clad pans. Eating areas both inside and outside on the screened porch are most pleasant. The beds were comfortable. The woodland setting is lovely. As others have noted, be sure to follow the owner's directions to reach the house. Our Garmin GPS did not recognize some roads in this area, with the result that its guidance was between inefficient and downright wrong. In all, we enjoyed our stay at the house and recommend it.

Perfect vacation house satisfied every expectation
we loved our stay. The house is aesthetically colorful, restful and beautifully furnished, with unique artistic taste. it is a well equipped house with every convenience to make our stay comfortable. They left us a book containing best trips to take from the house as well as restaurants which proved extremely helpful. They even left us great hiking information and information about the area. We especially enjoyed our time eating on the screened in porch and relaxing on the hammock and gliders. Nearby was the wonderful lake, conveniently equipped with chairs and boats for our use. We very much enjoyed the people we met who were congenial and welcoming We give it a five star review and would return any time

Wonderful Place for your Summer escape
I just adored staying in this magical place. Everything is as it is advertised and more. I ate every single meal out on the spacious screened in porch and my cat spent all day and night out there. During the day I was camped out at Lake Celeste bringing my picnic lunch. You can even drive down from the house and park your car there. More lounge chairs provided that you can ever want, never ever crowded, boats or all kinds for use, quiet, nobody bothers you, read or just stare into middle distance. Watch birds and water fowl, swim to your hearts content. The house has every amenity you could want. Great kitchen, dishwasher, bbq, washer/dryer, bird feeders outside the living room windows and my how they like to entertain you. Cable TV, wi fi, fireplace and sofas and club chairs to curl up in with a good book. Even a ceiling fan on the screened in porch. On the few nights we had a one of those classic summer thunderstorms I sat out on the porch and just drank in nature's pyrotechnics. I have rented summer homes in Garrison for years but this was the best place ever. There are many places to visit in the area when you are there but other than going to Cold Spring to stock up on groceries, I just couldn't tear myself away for this ideal location. I was so sad when it was time to leave. All I could think of was how can I stay here year round. House was immaculate when we checked in and there was maid service available at a reasonable price so we could leave it just the way we found it. The owners were a delight and I am still in touch with them. A lovely couple. Definitely a 5 star experience.

A VACATION AND STUDYING TRAVEL
We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children, from Brazil, and we spent 2 months in this house. It was a very good time, with snow, but the house was warm all the time. We used to go and return to NYC every day, because we were studying there. The house was the place were we can talk, play on the snow, the children became fascineted with deers, and was good for study; it was our safe place. The library was perfect , with so many books. we enjoy it.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE.???
If you want to get out of the" RAT RACE" ....if your body and soul demands a well needed dose of tranquility, delight, wonderment, then this surely must be the place to get it!! Tucked deep in the woods, with a background of tall green trees, this home sits nestled above a hill with suttle glimpses of a lake below if you try and peek through the trees. This home is very comfortable and reflects the character and lives of real people. Meaning that you dont walk in and see an empty sterile enviroment. Instead you are greeted delightfully at every turn with cozy furniture, whimsical art and wonderful accessories. Large picture windows in the living room allow you to enjoy the magical show of nature presented right in front of your eyes. Birds busily gather at the feeders outside the windows, the squirrels clambering up the trees. The occasional deer in the evening. All presented for your enjoyment. A large deck in the back with furniture and a grill further allows you to kick back and enjoy your favorite beverage while drinking in the scenery. If the bugs in the woods get you then get up and move into the screened porch right next to the deck for a continued great view and experience. Now for some practical matters. Do not let your GPS ruin your experience of getting here. FOLLOW MY LEAD . The GPS ( Garmin) almost drove us crazy! Take Route 9 to Traverse Corners Rd (near Garrison Country Club) follow until you get to Old Albany Post Rd turn right and follow around the lake (you will see Lake on left) keep going and you will turn left on Lake Celeste just follow the house numbers... The lake is great. It has a dock to fish from as well as canoe and rowboat. No eating fish, but the large mouth bass are plentiful for the sport! My husband loved relaxing there, while I sat back with a glass of wine and watched him The hike down to the lake was great but coming back up reminded me that I was out of shape! No matter, by the 3rd day I was good to go, but if you don't have the time or inclination just get in the car and drive there! Don't miss the Garrison Landing where you can see right across the Hudson River to West Point. AWSOME! You are also pretty darn close to Bear Mountain. Not to be missed with a great lake, picnic areas, great easy hiking, and a fun zoo area. Cold Spring down Rte 311 is filled with charm, antique stores, and great pizza. Follow yelp advise it's pretty accurate. Have fun!

Property Not As Described / Owner Did Not Honor Refund
Website advertised house with "Air Conditioning". Upon arrival we found a musty, damp, hot home. We found 1 window unit in a bedroom closet that had to be installed by us-the Renters. Upon calling the owner, there was no answer on cell or home phone. The Owner didn’t return my call for over 9 hours. The Owner said they never advertised the house with A/C. We have a print out of the website showing "Air Conditioning" in the home. The Owner’s solution to the problem: “give it a day or two and see if you are OK at the house”. When I didn’t agree to that, they offered to bring a 2nd window unit. I told the owner 2 window units doesn’t equal A/C in the whole home. The morning after our dispute, the website was changed to say "2 air conditioned bedrooms". The website was changed, but the Owners never admitted the property was falsely advertised regarding A/C. We had to argue with the owner to get an offer of any refund. It has been 3 weeks since our stay and the Owner has not honored their word regarding a refund. The owner was only focused on the money they would lose. There was no concern for our vacation stay. I didn't drive over 9 hours from my home anticipating a week stay in a lake home only to turn around and vacate the house and end up in a one room hotel property with my whole family. This should be a huge red flag to potential renters. Other info you may like to know: Access to the house is via a dirt/gravel road that is quite steep. The driveway is 1.9 miles from the paved road. I felt lucky to be driving a Chevrolet Tahoe. The home is advertised with views. The views are of trees. You can’t see the lake from the home. The only view of water are glimpses of light reflecting off water through trees. It is advertised as ‘secluded on 4 acres’. There are neighbors close enough to see and hear. The neighbor’s dog barking woke us up both mornings we were at the home. Access to the lake was described as a 5 minute walk down the hill. Be aware, the ‘hill’ is the road to the home. It’s quite a walk to get to the lake–it’s not at all convenient. The window in the master bath shower is located directly across from the BBQ Grill in the backyard and the deck area. There are no blinds in the master bath. Access to the washer and dryer is via an outside stairway and path leading to a dirty basement. The kitchen is described as "modernized' - it is dated. We have rented from VRBO for over 12 years and NEVER had such a bad experience.

Perfect Thanksgiving getaway
This was the perfect spot for our family gathering at Thanksgiving. The home was comfortable and cozy and the location ideal: close to amenities but in a beautiful secluded setting. Cold Spring is definitely worth a visit, and is minutes away. We even took the train in to NYC for an afternoon expedition. The owners were so helpful and available, and made sure all our needs were met. We'd do this again in a heartbeat!

A True Getaway!
Fantastic home in a fantastic location and owned by fantastic people. The home is close to amenities and yet feels remote and private. Very comfortable space for sleeping and living. The lake is a cool reprieve from the occasional hot day.
