About this property

Victorian Era Hotel 109 - rare working man's hotel - Ocean views

West Facing, bay and ocean views, built in 1900, walk to Little Italy, Downtown and even Balboa Park. This historic Victorian has wide halls, and 10 foot ceilings that speak to a different era. The Hawthorne Inn looks exactly the same as when it was built. Even the interior hallways have not been altered. Up the street is the luncheonette, "Hob Nob Hill", established in 1943.
A complimentary bottle of wine will be waiting for you to say thank you for staying. We hope you enjoy your stay. We are a ten minute walk to Little Italy with its fabulous array of restaurants and public art.
Our Little Italy is a modern urban neighborhood in the heart of San Diego. We have watched The Little Italy Association revive this once thriving neighborhood; while telling the story of Little Italy to its visitors through public art displays and amazing piazzas. San Diego’s Little Italy is not only a model urban neighborhood for the City of San Diego, but is also serving as a model for the handful of Little Italys remaining throughout the country.

And you can also get to World Famous Balboa Park which is five blocks away. For less than $59 you can purchase a week's pass to over 16 museums and attractions. With your Explorer Multi-Day Pass, you have the opportunity to explore each of the 16 museums in Balboa Park for an entire week!

Your Balboa Park Explorer passes are valid at the following organizations:
Centro Cultural de la Raza
Japanese Friendship Garden
Mingei International Museum
Museum of Photographic Arts

Locations was great. The neighborhood was also nice.
This was a great place to stay. Would highly recommend to someone that doesn’t mind the noise at night.

It is well located within the city, close to the downtown, Little Italy and views of the bay. Were it not in the flight path of descending commercial flights (which go overhead every 3-5 mins.) it would be a very quiet location. The package of earplugs by the bed said it all. The structure itself is quite imposing and the patio area in back is well stocked for bar-b-cue and relaxing..

Clean & convenient
Great location to walk to just about everything (or a short Uber/ Lyft Ride). Courteous staff. Our room seemed to have been recently refurbished. It is a historic building, so there are some creaky floors, but we were so tired at night, it didn’t create much of a issue.

Great location, great rate
Located a short Uber ride to most San Diego tourist destinations. Could have done without my rental car. Clean and quiet in a nice neighborhood with a market and great breakfast/lunch place a block away. Friendly and helpful staff.
