Great space for a milestone birthday celebration!

The Hawk House is set in a beautiful location with stunning views. We were entertained by lots of wildlife on the property. The kitchen was very well stocked, and the sitting and eating areas were perfect! There were many day trip opportunities, and while we couldn't take advantage of all of them, we visited Mesa Verde National Park, drove the Million Dollar Highway, visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and spent time at the Nighthorse Reservoir.

Three generations (not all of them, but enough)

The house is beautiful - we really loved the epic porch - perfect to sipping your morning coffee or tea! The western sun does hit the porch hard up until the sun goes down, but then it cools off pretty quickly again. Know there is no AC - so close your windows before 9 to keep the heat from getting in! The sheer number of light switches was amazing and confusing - we should have had the kids go around to identify which switches powered which lights! None of us had any issues with the beds (couple of reviews mentioned they were hard), I was in the upstairs queen bedroom and one night i put the box fan into the window to bring in the outside air - it was amazing. This house is managed by Vacasa - after I had booked it on VRBO as a three bedroom, I was contacted by them and it was quite easy to work with them. NOTE - the downstairs bedroom/studio is an open concept with full kitchen and the couch is a pullout. Since we had rented the whole house, we unlocked the staircase doors so we could go between internally instead of outside. I'm sending some notes directly to Vacasa for improvements, but will definitely stay here again! We saw a bunch of deer, but no other wildlife for us.

The Great Hawk House

Great location--Very nice house--Great views-- Only issue was I had to call Vacasa because I was only given code for top floor lockbox---They put me in touch with someone who gave me a correct code for the bottom floor. The house was perfect for our family. Will definitely stay there again.

Very disappointed!

This place was listed as a NEW cabin. We found a dried up french fry on the night stand, rugs had visible debris, a bottle cap was left on a table, etc. I thought I was renting through VRBO but ended up dealing with a company called VACASA. We arrived at check-in only to find issues with codes they gave us. There were instructions for HOA/Gated entrance - there was no such thing. The 2nd unit needed a code - we did not have it. The property manager showed up minutes after we did and helped us get into the property. She said she lived 1 1/2 hours away so we knew we could not count on her for help. She had to call in a maintenance man for help. He was the most helpful of all! He brought us detergent when we ran out. The quantities they had provided were not sufficient for our 5 night stay. The bbq grills did not work. Screens had holes. French door was hard to open/close and would inadvertently lock leaving people on the deck to get in by way of the lock box. We had left change on a night stand and it was missing when we went to get it. Kitchen items were not all clean when we went to use them. We had to wash them before we could use them. No instructions for use of TV/cable/streaming which was very difficult to figure out. With the help of the maintenance man, we were able to use the system. There were no instructions for linens when we checked out. In my reviews I had used the Premier Host filter, so I assumed this was a Premier Host property.

Location saved it

Awkward check in (no keys to downstairs) and a big empty space where tv in main room supposed to be. Beautiful location and house we but all had complaints about our mattresses. Maybe an upgrade in that area will match rest of house. Can’t beat the views though!!!!

Company retreat

My two business partners and I rented this property to do a retreat for a small business the focuses on teaching engineering short courses. The three of us spent the weekend working on our course content. This property was ideal for this activity. Very quite and good web access. It is located a couple of miles from downtown, so we had easy access to grocery shopping, restaurants and the Durango Rec Center. We had all but of one of our meals in the rental and it had all the necessary kitchen items for our meal prep. The rest of the house was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this property. Two minor improvements I'd suggest: 1. one side of the toaster is broken. 2. We could have use some instructions on the radiant heat system. We could not figure out how to lower the temperature. Changing the temperature settings on the thermostats did not seem to change anything.

Beautiful home

The home is very beautiful and in a quiet location. Great views from the deck and the kitchens were well equipped. Location was great, quick drive to town yet very peaceful. The downstairs was locked for some reason so we had to call for assistance on that, it was resolved quickly. Only real complaint is that the two garbage bins in the garage were almost completely full when we arrived which was challenging for a 5 night stay with 6 people.

Beautiful!!!

This house is beautiful with stellar views. We were in Durango for a family wedding, and it was a great gathering spot. The only glitch was that the lower level was locked and we could not access. A call to the property manager was immediately returned however, and the situation remedied. Great spot!!

sweet solitude

This property is so well maintained and updated and stocked that you need not worry about a thing but letting go and relaxing. That is exactly what we did. We went into town to ride the Polar Express and buy groceries, otherwise we were looking at the incredible view and sleeping in very comfortable beds. Only one snag, the grill did not work to grill our steaks one night but the kitchen had an oven with a broiler and it worked perfectly. Security and technology was sufficient and if we wanted to we could have watch TV (we chose to enjoy the view and quiet time). This was a family gathering with grandchildren and their parents and it was exactly what we needed to get in the Christmas spirit. Thank you to the owners for sharing this beautiful home, and to the property manager for responding so quickly to help us get in to the house, the key codes were a bit scrambled to the down stairs efficiency apt.. The property is just far enough from town to make you think you are in the wilderness yet so close to town that you know you can get there and back in short order. I can see that the warning about needed 4 wheel drive is warranted as the approach to the drive way is just steep enough that you could slip and slide. All in all we are so thankful to have had the good fortune to enjoy this wonderful property. I strongly suggest that you continue to charge the cleaning fee and use the same service you currently use to prepare the house for next guests as the place was set up just right!

Lovely private mountain home, yet close to town

Hawk House was perfect for our family. Everyone had their own room and private bath. The kitchen - dining - great room has breathtaking views! We spent time on the wrap-around deck taking in the scenery and watching deer on the property. Perfect blend of mountain retreat yet close to town. We’ll be back!

Beautiful home close to town and trails

Rented house for guys trip. It was awesome. We hiked all day, made dinners at the house and watched the stars at night from the massive deck overlooking the lake. It is fairly secluded yet close to town. I would definitely rent it again.

Gorgeous views

The house was really nice, but a little under stocked. There was only one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, and limited toiletries. Not enough conditioner or soap for each bathroom. Hand soap would have been nice since we had two sick people with us. Also no blow dryers which is just something that is expected at a rental. Other than those minor details we thought it was gorgeous and really enjoyed being close to Durango.
