About this property

The villa is located on a hillside, overlooking the sea. It boasts fantastic sweeping views over unspoilt countryside filled with olive groves down to the sparking azure sea. It offers a fantastic degree of privacy, and there are very few signs of habitation as far as the eye can see. However as the the bustling harbour of Makrigialos is only 3 kms away, you have privacy without sacrificing convenience. With the car you can easily reach the numerous tavernas, shops and unspoilt beaches throughout your holiday stay.
The villa offers particularly spacious accommodation with a total of 4 bedrooms (3doubles-1single) and an extra bed option arranged over two floors and two lovely terraces, one on the ground floor at the front of the house and the other on the first floor leading off one of the bedrooms. The traditional feel of the house, which strikes you immediately upon swing the thick stone-walled exterior as you approach along the rough track leading to the house (all types of car are suitable, some of our guests prefer slightly high ground clearance cars or SUVs), is echoed in the interiors which have been furnished with family heirlooms and antiques. The bedrooms have lovely old iron bedsteads with decorative metalwork and modern floors and shutters.The very special living area boasts an open fireplace and to one side is a large well equipped kitchen area with a full oven and fridge. All the bedrooms on the first floor have attractive sloping ceilings,and from the single bedroom there is access to a large terrace at the front of the house which is a perfect spot to sit in the quiet of the late evening and watch for shooting stars.Outside is the pool area with the BBQ, equipped with large table and chairs and also a garden.

Lots of character

A lovely house for a relaxing holiday. No road noise, lovely views (mountains, sea, sunset). Many beaches within easy reach, with decent main roads. Makri Gialos was better than we expected for shopping, with a butcher and fruit & vegetable shop in addition to the mini markets (which sell most essentials) and cafes for treats. Nice restaurants such as Dragon's Cave, Diaskari, Kami, several along by the harbour and more all along the coast. Also Roman and Minoan ruins to add a bit of culture. The night sky is awesome. George answered all our questions and is a lovely, kind host. Efcharistó!

Lovely house

I want to start by saying this is a beautiful property away from everyone you WILL have no interruptions here. The property is situated on a hill up a dirt path with overhanging plants. This road will seem a little daunting the first couple of times but is not too bad, do be careful with your car we picked up a couple of scratches from olive trees. Once at the property the only 2 things to mention is 1 the internet is only a top up hotspot. This wasn’t a problem for us but could have been if we had to rely on it and not our phones data. 2 the water pressure can drop out due to being on a hill. Other than this the pool was lovely the balcony was brilliant to sit on whilst having dinner and the sky is so clear of a night you can see satellites moving between the stars. George is a lovely host and couldn’t be more helpful he also made us a lovely lunch and was full of great tourist advice overall it was a lovely stay if getting away from the herd is what you want.

Great family holiday

We loved our stay in this house. It had everything we needed and it was in a beautiful, quiet spot with total privacy.George is the perfect host, kind and helpful. The house is up a rough track so bear in mind when hiring a car. The views are incredible and you can drive to a different beach every day. Makrygialos has plenty of food places to offer but we recommend Diaskari taverna, down a tiny track and right on the beach.

Un vrai bonheur !

Nous avons passé 15 jours merveilleux chez George et Irini. Tout a été parfait, la gentillesse et la disponibilité de nos hôtes, l'emplacement de la maison. Seul bémol la chaleur que les nombreux ventilateurs n'ont pas réussi à baisser. Nous essaierons de revenir dans ce lieu merveilleux pour de prochaines vacances.

Wunderbarer Aufenthalt

Drei Wochen in idyllischer Ruhe, und doch alles Notwendige schnell erreichbar. Im Südosten Kretas spielt der Tourismus noch eine untergeordnete Rolle. Das Haus liegt mit Blick auf das Meer einsam in den Hügeln, im Hintergrund imposantes Mittelgebirge. Fahrten durch das Hinterland offenbaren griechisches Alltagsleben in abgeschiedenen Dörfern. Ein wunderbarer ruhiger Strand liegt quasi vor der Haustür. Gastgeber George kümmerte sich nicht nur um alles Praktische, sondern gewährte in vielen interessanten Gesprächen Einblicke in die lokalen Strukturen - eine sehr herzliche und interessante Persönlichkeit. Einziges kleines Manko: Die Schotterrpiste zum Haus ist mit einem vollbesetzten normalen PKW grenzwertig und erfordert ein wenig Fahrgeschick. Aber das nimmt man gerne in Kauf... Lieber George, noch einmal herzlichen Dank für die liebevolle Gastfreundschaft. Wir kommen gerne irgendwann wieder und hoffen, dass es Irini dann gesundheitlich besser geht. Entspannte Erholung

Sehr schönes Haus mit guter Ausstattung. Alles da, was man braucht. Da wir nur zu zweit waren, haben wir nur die untere Etage mit dem kleineren Bad (Dusche) genutzt. Im oberen Bereich steht aber auch ein sehr geräumiges Bad mit Badewanne zur Verfügung. Sauberer großer Pool zum Schwimmen. Große Außenflächen mit vielen Sitzmöglichkeiten im Schatten und in der Sonne, liebevoll angelegter Garten. Die Vermieter kümmern sich schon im Vorfeld gut um die Gäste. So trafen wir uns im nächsten Ort mit Irinis Mann, der vorweg fuhr, um uns zum Haus zu bringen. Tipps für gute Restaurants bekamen wir ebenfalls. Am letzten Tag kamen beide extra zur Verabschiedung vorbei. Das Haus liegt absolut ruhig und wir hatten einen herrlichen Weitblick. Auch die etwas rumpelige Zufahrt (landwirtschaftlicher Weg) störte uns nicht. Ein schöner Platz, um seine Ferien zu genießen!

Wer Abgeschiedenheit und Ruhe sucht, ist richtig!

Kalimera Irini und Georgios Es war uns eine grosse Freude, zwei wunderbare Wochen in eurer Villa Rena verbringen zu dürfen! Wir waren vom ersten Moment an begeistert: Wer Urlaub in Abgeschiedenheit und Ruhe sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Man lauscht der Stille, dem Streichen des Windes durch Bäume und Büsche, in der Ferne hört man leise und je nach Wind das Meeresrauschen. Das Haus ist gemütlich und liebevoll eingerichtet. Es ist einfach und zweckmässig. Wunderbar der Pool, der Ess- und BBQ-Bereich im Freien, die Terrasse im ersten Stock für den Sonnenuntergang und jene im Parterre, um den Sonnenaufgang hinter dem Berg mit einer ersten Tasse Kaffee zu erwarten. Und wer die berühmten kulinarischen kretischen Angebote geniessen will, der findet feine Tavernen in kurzer Fahrdistanz. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gibt es viele und die meisten sind jeden Tag geöffnet. Zahlreiche schöne Strände und Badebuchten laden ein, genussvolle Stunden am Strand zu verbringen. Die Kommunikation mit euch war jederzeit perfekt. Ihr habt uns bei unserer Ankunft sehr freundlich empfangen und uns alles, was es zu wissen braucht, gezeigt und erklärt. Euch ist es wirklich ein Herzensanliegen, dass sich eure Gäste wohlfühlen. Da wir während unseres Aufenthaltes so ziemlich alles erlebt haben, was die Natur hergibt (natürlich viel Sonnenschein, aber auch Erdbeben, Gewittersturm und Regen) und es in der Folge auch zu Stromausfall gekommen war, seid Ihr stets erreichbar gewesen. Wir haben die Begegnungen mit euch als Bereicherung erfahren und mit euch zwei hilfsbereite, interessante und liebenswerte Persönlichkeiten kennengelernt. Calme et reposant, vue magnifique.

Pour notre second séjour dans cette maison, nous avons retrouvé un accueil chaleureux des propriétaires Irinie et Georges. Maison perchée dans la montagne, très calme, mais proche des commerces et restaurants de Makrigialos. Nous recommandons vivement cette location pour toutes personnes qui recherchent la quiétude.

Wer die Ruhe mag ist hier richtig

Sehr schönes Haus mitten in der Natur mit Blick aufs Meer und Berge. Hübsch angelegtes Grundstück mit sehr schönen Pool und Terrassen. Innenaustattung im Haus mit viel Liebe hergerichtet. Raumklima ist wegen der dicken Steinwände und relativ kleinen Fenstern auch ohne Klimaanlage sehr angenehm. Sehr nette Vermieter. Nette Restaurants,Bars und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gut erreichbar. Das gleiche gilt für traumhafte Strände. Ein Auto zu mieten ist vorteilhaft, aber für jemanden der gerne zu Fuß unterwegs ist nicht zwingend erforderlich. Wir kommen auf jedenfall wieder.

Trés belle villa au milieu des montagnes

Trés jolie villa au milieu des oliviers. Trés bien entretenue et décorée avec gout. Les proprietaires sont adorables et trés disponibles. Ils sont venus réguliérement pour l'entretien de la piscine et changer le linge de maison. La piscine et le coin table et barbecue sous la pergola sont trés agréables. La vue est superbe, la montagne d'un côté et la mer de l'autre. On est au calme, les 1ers voisins sont éloignés mais la ville de Makrygialos est à à peine 10 minutes en voiture. Le seul bémol : le chemin de cailloux pour accéder à la propriété mais on s'y fait rapidement. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Encore merci pour tout.

Au milieu des collines

Belle semaine au milieu des collines a quelques km de Makrigialos. La maison est idéalement située si vous aimez vous isoler et permet d'apprécier la douceur de vie Cretoise au bord de la piscine et le soir sous la pergola. Si vous préfèrez la plage, pas de souci il ya tout ce qu'il faut pas très loin, on peut même y aller a pied. La maison est ancienne et possède un charme vintage qui peut dérouter au premier abord mais on s'y sent bien. Un peu de rénovation et quelques équipements supplémentaires seraient toutefois les bienvenus (internet..). Le chemin d'accès n'est pas goudronné, il faut être prêt a se faire secouer un peu lors des trajets, les propriétaires sont adorables.

Rustic Farmhouse in a Beautiful Location

The location, size, and layout of the villa and property are fantastic. George and Irene were helpful with information about the areas beaches and tavernas. Pool and outdoor space was great too. We all loved the amazing view and peaceful privacy. Rustic house and decor, but that's the experience we were looking for. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, and comfortable beds and clean sheets and towels. There were lots of sun beds by the pool, and some were used on the upper terrace for star-gazing at night. We stayed during a hot spell, so air conditioning would have been welcomed for sure. Also, we expected wireless internet, but the method required us to buy a phone card - it wasn't straightforward. Not recommended (especially if you need to work remotely) unless you are familiar with that method of getting on the internet. Overall - really neat place.

Vacances très reposantes dans une maison typique isolée

Nous recherchions de la tranquillité dans un endroit calme et nous l’avons trouvé. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour (15 jours / Septembre 2018) dans cette maison isolée (mais à peine à 10 minutes en voiture de Makrigialos), située dans un cadre magnifique, entourée d'oliviers et avec vue sur la mer. La description était conforme à notre attente, et nous avons profité un maximum de la grande piscine et du coin barbecue. Un grand merci à Irini et Georges pour nous avoir attendus et guidés malgré notre heure d'arrivée tardive ainsi que pour leur gentillesse tout au long de notre séjour. Nous recommandons fortement cette location. Christine & Gilbert.

Lovely house and great hospitality

The house is lovely and located very lovely with stunning views of the mountains and the sea. Irina and George gave us a warm welcome and were very helpful during our stay. Au coeur d'un oliveraie face à la baie

Belle maison, isolée, située sur les hauteurs avec une vue magnifique sur la baie de Lagada et de MakryGialos. Georges et Irini ont été très accueillants et d'un support efficace tout au long du séjour. Le chemin d’accès depuis la route est une route agricole sur environ 1km : évitez de louer une voiture trop basse ! Le soir on y croise des lièvres et autres animaux (chats sauvages etc.) Pas de climatisation mais la situation de la maison et les ventilateurs dans les chambres permettent de passer des nuits fraîches malgré la chaleur quand nous y étions.

Schönes Haus in toller Lage

Wir waren Ende Juni in diesem schönen alten Haus mit 8 Erwachsen und einem Kind. Das Haus hat eine schöne Lage auf einem Hügel mit toller Aussicht und kein Nachbar weit und breit. Die Zufahrt ist allerdings schwierig, da es über eine Schotterpiste geht. Das ist ist einfach ausgestattet und eigentlich nur für max 7 Personen. Der Pool ist sehr schön und der Vermieter hat ihn einmal in den 9 Tagen gereinigt. Leider gab es nur 3 Liegen und die Stühle am Esstisch draussen waren auch ziemlich wackelig. Wer mit einer sehr einfachen Ausstattung zufrieden ist, hat dort eine schöne Unterkunft. In der Nähe sind mehrere schöne Strände ( Sand oder Kies, mit und ohne Liegen) und im Ort kann man alles einkaufen, was man braucht.

It was really nice, the location and view are super nice, the swimming pool was great.

The house is nice but very basic, the furniture are very old, not very comfortable, Also the garden furniture. Very expensive for this house and facilities.it is very hard to cook in The kitchen. But altogether it was very nice experience. Thank you 😊

Très bonnes vacances dans cette maison très tranquille

Bonjour Irina et George Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans votre maison pleine de charme et de caractère. Cette demeure perdue au milieu des oliviers et des palmiers, en pleine nature, entre mer et montagne nous a ravis, un vrai havre de paix ! Idéale pour une grande détente paisible avec une belle piscine bien entretenue pour parfaire le tout. A très peu de kilomètres on revient à la civilisation et on trouve des commerces, des restaurants et de belles plages calmes qui mènent à la mer couleur turquoise, sans obligatoirement de parasols à louer ! Située au sud-est, proche de Makrigialos et Iérapétra, lieu idéal pour visiter l’est et nord-est de la Crête. Merci à l’accueil très chaleureux et parfait de Irina et George. Michel & Mary-Pierre P.S. – peut-être un meilleur éclairage extérieur serait bienvenu - peut-être une télé fonctionnant mieux

Beautiful remote villa, surrounded by olive gardens, with stunning views over the sea and mountains

Loved this tastefully designed really period rural villa, set in a quiet spot with no neighbours around and a fantastic sandy clean beach, we had a lovely relaxing holiday. The house and the pool was clean, water changed easily. It was plenty of room for a big family with children both inside and outside. The outside space was so lovely and we ate and spent most of our time there outside as there is a nice and big grill space with a large dining table and stunning views. I loved this holiday and will definitely be going back!

The perfect house for a family holiday

We stayed at Stone Villa at the end of July this year. We are a family of eight, with ages ranging from 2 to 76, and the house was perfect for us. A true family holiday house set amongst the olive groves with amazing views of the mountains and the coast. On arrival Irini and George gave us a warm welcome and were hugely helpful with local information on local tavernas, beaches and where to shop. We loved the remoteness of the house, the pool and the shady BBQ area. The house is beautifully furnished with basic but adequate kitchen facilities, spotlessly clean and very comfortable beds. The Stone House is remote, up a very long , bumpy track, yet only 3km from the very nice small friendly town of Makrigialos with its good selection of beachside Tavernas - the perfect place for a family lunch and an afternoon on the sandy beach. On arrival the younger members of the family asked if there was air conditioning. I have to say, that when booking this holiday, it hadn't crossed my mind to ask. There isn't air conditioning, and as the house is on the coast and sometimes quite windy, normally probably not necessary, and although we had fans in the bedrooms, think small air conditioning units for the upstairs bedrooms could be useful when the temperatures rise in high summer. Thank you to a Irini and George for letting us stay in your much loved family home - we hope to return in the not too distant future.

Beautiful and Peaceful Vacation Home!

We had such a wonderful stay at Irini and George's Place! First of all, the location is amazing. The close-by beaches are pristine: transparent water, warm water, some have caves you can dive into, and most important some of the beaches are nearly deserted. The landscapes are beautiful: Very rocky with low vegetation on a beautiful mountainous background. The house is surrounded by olive trees and located on the hill from where you can see the see and the mountains. The house is old and beautiful made of rocks and wood. The perfect place for people looking for some quiet and relaxing holidays. The pool/backyard/bbq setting is wonderful and doesn't make you want to have dinner anywhere else. It's extremely pretty and convinient. The inside of the house is simple. The furnitures and amenities are quite rustic. And the hosts are lovely and very helpful.

Beautiful quiet place near lovely beaches

If you are looking for a quiet place with a lot of privacy this is the place to go! You have no neighbours en you have a lovely vieuw on the hills and the sea. There are not much tourists en if you drive along the road you can find beautifull beaches just for yourself and the water is very clear. There are also some nice walks through the gorges. In the village below there is are some shops and restaurants. We loved to be outsite by the pool, but we weren't very pleased about the decorating inside the house. It was a bit to old for us and not our taste. But the owners were very kind and helpfull. They helped us getting in the house again when we had locked ourselves out: we forgot to put the key on the outside of the door. We were warned about it, but unfortunately it still happened....
