South Dakota tour
This property worked well for our first visit to South Dakota and all of its attractions. The location was convenient to reach the national parks, Custer state park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the 1880's train which is right next door. The property is spacious and the owner was helpful in providing chairs to take to the buffalo roundup so that we did not have to pack and bring them. We appreciated the proximity to Main Street Hill City.

Fabulous location to everything. Condition of the property was run down, poor linens, bedding & cobwebs galore. Very well outfitted for a wonderful stay if it was cleaned. Door frames coated with dirt & webs & door screens all poorly functioning. Location is the trump card!

Family vacation
Very nice place in a quite area to relax. We spent time on the front porch watching the deer , and train come and go. We spent time in the back sunroom playing games as a family. The house has plenty of space for everyone. The home is centerly located to travel in any direction to various daily outings.

Would recommend
We had excellent communication with the property manager before and during our stay. They took care of issues as they could and communicated with us when workers would come to make repairs, only allowing them in with our permission. There were plenty of places to sleep, plenty of space with the added sun room, and plenty to do. We saw deer on the property, and could watch the 1880 train (which we HIGHLY suggest) daily from the porch. The griddle style grill outside was all we needed for pancakes, burgers, eggs, and sausage. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance, and the Mickelson trail is just down the hill across the highway. We would stay here if we ever vacation in Hill City again.

Side by side trip in the Black Hills
Location for us was excellent. We were close to downtown for restaurants, groceries, and fun shops. Miscommunication on our booking so suggest double checking on your reservation. Many light bulbs were burned out throughout the house and the microwave was filthy. Everything else was very clean.

Black Hills vacation
Kitchen well stock. We loved the picnic table in front to watch the trains. The grill was great, we ate supper every night using the grill. The girls loved watching the deer. Enough towels. We did not turn on any TVs in the evening with too much to do in the area the girls were tired. Thank you Linda for sharing your home

Great House and Location to See Black Hills
The house was in a great location - it is less than an hour from Custer, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, Wineries, etc,. Within walking distance of main area of Hill City, but far enough away to be quiet. The house was very nice and better than the pictures portray. Kitchen was well stocked, beds were comfortable, and many supplies were provided. We spent much of our time on the front porch and front picnic table overlooking downtown, the train station, and the many deer that happen by. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous location and great property!!
What a great property! Great kitchen, modern appliances and amenities, comfy furniture, cable and wi-fi, loved the tub upstairs and the sun room was practically like being outside...lots of deer to see! It was so special hearing the 1808 steam train whistle blow every morning!! Perfect centralized location to see Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Moccasin Mineral Hot Springs,, Mammoth Museum and be sure not to miss the World Fossil Finder in Hot Springs!! Cascade Falls and Cold Brook Reservoir to swim...such fresh and clear mountain spring water!! Linda was quick to respond with questions. Will be back and we wouldn't stay anywhere else!!

Great for families!
The property was very spacious and had everything we needed. Location was perfect for everything we were going to do. The AC worked great downstairs but had a hard time cooling the upstairs so we opened the windows once the temperature dropped. My whole family enjoyed staying at this property.

Absolutely great location and pretty much 20-30 to just about anything you want to see. Hill City isn’t too crowded and we truly enjoyed the 1880 train and the winery.

About the host

Our family bought this house after Hurricane Katrina sent us north for a couple of years. We loved it, and decided to keep it for summers. We hope to someday move here permanently.

Why they chose this property

Proximity to downtown Hill City, but still feels woodsy.
We love the burgeoning arts scene in Hill City, as well as the small town feel. Swimming in the lakes, fishing, hiking and biking the trails are favorite summer past times.

What makes this property unique

This home has a great view of downtown, and yet deer walk by the window in the early morning and evening. We love the open great room, with the catwalk crossing overhead. We love that it is comfortable both for adults and children. The fireplace when it is cool/cold is lovely.
