About this property

Mid May week OPEN! Beautiful Creek! Birds, ducks, close to Pigeon Forge

Cottage by the Creek is an original 1930’s renovated farmhouse on Walden's Creek with our back porch only feet from it. The pictures are accurate in scale. The roads are flat and easy particularly in winter - no getting snowed in! It is private, peaceful and plenty of wildlife comes by early in the morning for a drink. The ducks come twice a day like clockwork. If you are up early, you may see the turkey family come by or "Granddaddy Long Legs", our resident blue heron. No matter the time of day, the birds are everywhere and we have feeders out for them for you to enjoy bird watching!

The creek is shallow enough to wade, explore and hunt for crawdads and small fish and you can relax to the sound of a babbling brook right outside the back door. Yes, you can try to fish it in the deeper pools! We are pet friendly so bring your dog to enjoy the creek as much as you will. Of course, nighttime is beautiful with the firepit and the view of the stars; for those who love to camp, you will feel like you are camping under the stars in the woods...but your comfortable bed is just inside!

The home itself is a farmhouse that was located years ago to this property and we have completely renovated it. It is cozy and as peaceful inside as it is outside. We have added large windows across the back to be able to see the view from both the back bedroom and the living/dining area. It feels like you are entering a secret cottage tucked away in the trees and yet, you are only minutes from Pigeon Forge at the Wears Valley/Parkway intersection. It could not be more convenient to the activities in the area. For example, the popular Island and Ferris wheel in Pigeon Forge is just 10 minutes from the home and the pool membership we have for guests at Honeysuckle Resort is just 10 minutes to the south in Wears Valley.

The cottage is all one level so no stairs to deal with and we have a yard for the kids to play in. One important rule for the creek is nothing can be removed from the creek such as rocks, wildlife, etc. This area is protected by the National Forest Reserve.

As a 2024 update, we have updated the couch and have added two comfy chairs that rock and swivel to the living room - pictures coming. We have a reverse osmosis water machine under the kitchen sink, so you have filtered water. The coffee pot will take both K-cups and regular coffee and we stock coffee and some tea there along with many spices for cooking in when you want to. For the kiddos, we have a foosball table in the back bedroom suite area, many books and movies and Playstation games, a TP tent and badminton set. So, for the days when you want to stay in and relax, you are set.

We hope this cottage will delight our guests! It has been a lot of work and we feel like we should have a fixer upper show but it has been worth it to see the cottage literally come alive with the vision we had when we first walked in. Enjoy!

Calm and serene

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Pretty getaway. I like how quiet, peaceful and relaxing it was. Nice place to go to after the tourist activities nearby. Great location, super close to Pigeon Forge but still feels very away from it all.

Love this farmhouse cottage!

This quaint cottage on Walden's Creek was the perfect winter getaway for us. It was close to all of the touristy attractions but far enough away to deliver a peaceful quiet location. We were impressed with all of the "extras" that the owners left us. We didn't have to run into town for anything last minute. The birds and ducks were a plus too. We did fill up the bird feeder before we left but found that one of the walls had fallen out/was broken, which let most of the food fall to the ground (squirrels appreciated that). A new feeder would be a plus for future guests who are nature lovers!

Charming

This is such a charming home, decorated so festive for Christmas. The home is comfortable and was quiet and peaceful. Had four pairs of ducks the first day and continued to see several each day. Convenient location not too far out, but away from the hustle and bustle of town. I had found this home a few years ago but was always booked in our time frame but kept it in mind and we are so glad we did. Would stay here again. Everything you need to enjoy a week in the area, thanks for a wonderful stay.

Beyond wonderful!

This beautiful renovated farmhouse is absolutely cozy and unique! Nestled in beside a tranquil Creek scurrying with wildlife, be prepared to see an abundance of birds, ducks, squirrels, and maybe even a bear! The Home met all of our needs and more, we cannot wait to stay again in the summer and enjoy the creek for real this time! we are local to the area and I can definitely see this becoming a long-term favorite of ours!!!

Loved the property! The creek & ducks were awesome. The cottage was rustic, cute & peaceful! I loved how you had it decorated inside. It was just my style! The beds were very comfortable! The back deck could have used a little power washing as it was pretty dusty, but other than that we really enjoyed our stay there & would stay again!

Much needed R&R

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at this house on the creek! Every morning and evening we were greeted by cardinals and ducks. We felt like we were out in the woods but with just a short drive we could be at all the touristy spots. In our opinion this was the perfect peaceful place to stay, so much more relaxing than a hotel!! Our only regret was we couldn't stay longer. If we ever make it back to this area again, we will most definitely stay here!!!

Wonderful Stay

We had a wonderful stay in this cottage by the creek on our trip to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. It’s located conveniently to the strip yet away from the hustle and bustle. Walden’s Creek flows right out the back door which makes for a serene location. Would highly recommend this rental.

Relaxing Getaway

This was a great place for our family to relax and recharge. The outdoor atmosphere was perfect and my kids loved the creek. The adults loved the back porch and multiple fire pit options. It’s also close to town, so it was easy to go back and forth to activities and restaurants.

Great cottage

We enjoyed the cottage very much. It was clean and had all we needed. The river was very entertaining with the ducks there all day long. We had our small dog with us and there was plenty of yard space for him in the front so he wasn't focused on the ducks. We highly recommend this cottage for those wanting to be away from the tourists but also close enough to visit the area destinations.

About the host

Hosted by Rick and June Barbas

Host profile image
This is our 4th property. Rick and I seem to have a knack for the vacation business - most likely because we love to travel ourselves and we grab ideas from literally every place we stay. We keep adding these ideas to our properties and the feedback from our guests is they have never stayed somewhere with as many amenities they can actually use. We don't scrimp on the kitchen - we cook when we travel so I put everything in there I would want in cookware quality, spices, gadgets. We have lots of kids and grand kids so we try to add things that children like as well. So fun! We think we are big kids ourselves and like to stay that way. Experiences mean more to us than things so the properties we have are for making memories that last. We very much want our guests to have that special getaway and to make it as perfect as we possibly can.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with the creek being right there off the back porch. Listening to it in the early morning is so peaceful that Rick and I decided this would be a place we would want to have in retirement. The original farmhouse was a complete renovation with some nice surprises along the way like the original wood ceilings. We felt the investment was worth it. We are just minutes from the parkway, groceries, etc. but it feels like we are off in the quiet woods when we are home. We want to share this with others and make it full family friendly so the dogs can come too and enjoy wading in the creek. This is not a traditional log cabin like all the others; it is a unique cottage, warm and inviting in every way.

What makes this property unique

The backyard with the creek is the obvious highlight of Cottage by the Creek and we built a large fire pit to burn real wood - feels like you are camping. When we renovated, we worked to bring the outside in as much as possible. The back bedroom is now double in size to include a King bed and sitting area for games and TV but also to see the outdoors - I put a large picture window in so it feels like you are outside. The wood in the home is original and quite beautiful. We made the decor like a rustic farmhouse with some nods to our black bear community! It is super comfortable! The kitchen is large and has a line of sight right into the living area. The front yard is large and flat - perfect for your furry companions to enjoy and I have a badmitton set for fun! If you love watching birds, we have many varieties on the creek. Cardinals, finches, woodpeckers, geese, duck, egrets, turkeys have all been seen...look for the egret in the early morning. He is spectacular.
