Accommodations: Manor House - Five Bedrooms (including one Private Suite), three and one-half Baths, Sitting Room, Den, Formal Dining Room, Kitchen and Sun Room (Sleeps 15).
In 1659, a Mariner by the name of Peter Bovery was granted acreage for what has become Stepne Manor in Chestertown, Maryland (USA). Originally named 'Stepney' and established circa 1690, this historic treasure was renovated in 2005-2006 to comfortably accommodate guests with 21st century comforts. Enter the Manor through the side door into a spacious country kitchen. Put your bags down here and walk past the powder room through the formal dining room with seating for ten toward the sitting room or the family-friendly den, both at the front of the house. A sunroom on the north side welcomes you with all-day warmth during the cooler months and crisp air conditioning during warmer weather. Brick walkways and an extensive lawn beckon just outside.
The Master Suite welcomes you with a private entrance off the kitchen into a quiet second floor sanctuary transporting you into an unassuming private suite layered in sunlight and relaxation. The suite's private bath has a Jacuzzi tub for soaking in, a wide sink and custom dressing room on the east end. The suite also has an access door to Room Two, perfect for families. Accessible by climbing the front foyer's winding staircase, four additional guest rooms await. Room Two, with two double beds, and Room Three, with two queen sized bedsand a pull-out twin bed, are on the second floor, separated by a shared full bath. Rooms Three and Four, both on the third floor, each have one queen sized bed and share a third full bath. All five guest rooms provide satellite TV, closet, clock radio, iron and ironing board, luxurious bed and bath linens, and complementary toiletries.
Travel back in time to reach the tranquility that awaits you at Stepne Manor. Drive into Chestertown on the National Scenic Byways system toward the downtown center Fountain Park. Surrounding the park are many examples of colonial architecture and local shops of artisan gifts and antiques to treat your eyes. Mariners may tie up at Chestertown Marina next to a variety of vessels like the Sultana, a 1768 reproduction schooner handcrafted in Chestertown, or the Elsworth, an original 1901 skipjack turned floating classroom. Stepne Manor is the perfect pastoral setting for your gathering.
After settling in to your well-appointed room, take a stroll down the lane toward Wilmer Park. Originally the waterfront of Stepne Manor, the Chester River will meet you here at sunset where your worries will float away. Are your taste buds tingling? Feast at one of the local award winning restaurants where you can enjoy a meal of the finest regional cuisine or, for a change of pace, partake in one of the many smaller gourmet venues for lighter fare. All types of restaurants are within walking distance. For the evenings' entertainment, enjoy a live performance at one of three local historic theaters (Prince Theatre, Church Hill Theatre or Washington College) or settle in for a starry concert in nearby Fountain Park.
