Welcome to Hidden Gem

Hidden Gem is a rustic mountain cottage tucked away in a wooded property bordering the Lees-McRae College campus. It is conveniently located just a short walk from Banner Elk. Enjoy beautiful views and proximity to the town center at the same time.

Hidden Gem features an open floor plan with hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings. The great room has a wood-burning stone fireplace, cozy leather furniture, and a large HDTV with a Blu-Ray Player. The kitchen has granite countertops, custom cabinetry, and a custom dining table.

The king master suite has an ensuite bathroom, a large HDTV, and access to a screened-in porch with a dartboard and a napping swing. The other two bedrooms have HDTVs and share a bathroom. On the other end of the cottage is a game room with a slate pool table and a 55-inch HDTV. Upstairs loft area is where the XBOX is located.

The rear deck offers a covered outdoor living area with a wood-burning stone fireplace, comfortable lounging furniture, and a sunken hot tub. The rear deck leads to a landscaped, private backyard encircled by mature trees and with a fire pit. There are views of Grandfather Mountain and Elk River from the backyard.

Hidden Gem is located near downtown Banner Elk, giving access to shopping, dining, festivals, and everything else Banner Elk offers. Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain Ski Resorts are just minutes from this property.

*Please be aware that this property borders Lees-McRae College. Construction is taking place on a neighboring property owned by the school.

*This home is dog-friendly with additional pet fees required.

Thanksgiving holiday

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit with family. We loved the layout of the cabin. The beds were comfortable (it was a plus to have queen & king size beds). Plenty of hot water for six adults to get showers. It was so cozy! We played pool, built a fire, and enjoyed the hot tub. We would definitely stay here again. Suggestion - It would be nice if a crock pot was available to use. I had to borrow my niece's.

Family wedding getaway

We gathered for a family wedding outside of Banner Elk. This “Hidden Gem” was absolutely perfect for our family of three couples. The amenities including pool table, outside fireplace and hot tub added extra entertainment! The beds were all very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed! We loved being able to walk to meals in town! I highly recommend this home!

Great Location

House was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of bathrooms and beds to not feel cramped. Would definitely stay again. House was perfectly located between sugar and beech mountain. Easy to get to everything we needed.

Great Getaway!

Great cabin

Enjoyed this cabin. Everything went smooth. Some confusion on the loft area that was listed when I booked but then removed and host wasn’t aware of it. Hot tub didn’t work but host responded quick and had it checked. Would definitely stay again!

Great Getaway!

We had a fabulous time in Banner Elk! Hidden Gem is in a great location, and it took only minutes to get to the town. The house was clean and cozy, and we enjoyed a fire each night! The porch off of the master bedroom was incredible. We enjoyed playing darts and resting in the swing bed. The bars and restaurants were great and everyone was friendly! My friends and I would definitely stay here again!

Family Friendly Rustic Getaway

Our family loved this house! The hot tub and outdoor areas were perfect. There is construction going on at the college that is pretty close to the house but didn’t impact us at all (only getting thru it to get to the house). Management company was easy to deal with and communication was a breeze.

Excellent Location!

We picked this property based on its amazing proximity to downtown Banner Elk, but also its privacy. The hot tub was fantastic, indoor and outdoor fireplaces perfect and the kids loved the kids room. We are already talking about going back!

Banner Elk College

Nice property but would stay elsewhere next time as college, literally next door, made back porch anything but private. Some construction noise during the day and light pollution at night, compromising star gazing. Beds were very comfy and attic fan was really nice.

Great getaway

Property was as listed and very clean upon arrival. Outdoor fireplace on the deck is a great addition & a very relaxing area to spend time with friends/family. Hot tub wasn’t working at the time, but the host responded to resolve issue very promptly. If we go back to the area, we would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a great getaway location!

Summer Evening Solitude

The house is spacious for a group of 6 adults to relax in the evening. It is clean, comfortably furnished and has a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of hot water. The only neighbors are Lees-McRae College and a house across the road. The back deck has a view of the mountains. On July evenings, we could watch fireflies and listen to the chimes of the college bell tower -- very relaxing after a busy day. We will return.

Relaxing Vacation

We had a wonderful time. It was a quiet and peaceful place to relax and an easy walk to downtown. Our favorite amenities were the deck and the pool table. We also liked that there were board games and puzzles to enjoy. There was plenty of room for five adults and the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. We would definitely stay here again.

So nice to walk to town

Loved the second fireplace under cover on the back porch. Grandkids loved the sleeping loft. One downside: a dresser in only one bedroom. When requested, Carolina Cabin Rental quickly brought hangars to help store clothing.

Cozy mountain cabin

We enjoyed staying at the Hidden Gem. It was clean and stocked but could have used a little more attention to dusting. The indoor/ outdoor fireplace was great and we enjoyed several cozy fires. ( firewood well stocked)There are plenty of games to play.The location was very convenient to town but a bit disappointed in seeing and hearing the major construction going on next door which we weren’t expecting. Overall a really good experience and would recommend.

Rustic getaway

We felt like we we staying in a ski chalet dating back to th 30's. High beamed great room with massive stone fire place. Rustic old comfortable furniture. Bathrooms had all modern amenities and the one bed we used was very comfortable. TV's in all rooms, some with premium channels. Modern kitchen with ample utensils. Great outdoor deck with amazing hot tub and hugh fireplace looking to the mountains. Complete privacy even thou downtown Banner Elk was a three block downhill walk. Good value.

Awesome location

Overall property was very nice and the location was amazing. We walked down to downtown Banner Elk frequently. The rental itself was ok…we are major clean freaks and actually had to reach out to the management company to have a vacuum delivered since one was not at the rental. Outdoor fireplace was great. We did not use the hot tub as it was not super clean looking and the ants are pretty bad on the hot tub and deck. The pool table was great. The management company was very fast to respond. Overall our experience was a good one although we would probably choose a different rental in the area if we return.

Oncology nurse getaway

If you are going bring your own toilet paper! No extra anywhere in the house! We were going to have one or two adults sleep in the loft… no way! Steps up very narrow and space only meant for 2 children. Whole house needs a good scrubbing! Bathroom mats in front of sink were disgusting. And we got a call that day on our drive up that the hot tub had a small leak but it would be ok and still be usable. No way! Maybe to a small child and not 6 oncology infusion nurses who work very hard giving chemotherapy and wanted to relax in a hot tub…..Of course we made the most of a not so great cabin and spent time away from the so called Hidden Gem…and there is plenty of firewood on the front porch.

Warning , do not rent.

The pictures do not represent the current state of the cabin. It is run down now. The furniture is shot including the beds. It is moldy and dusty. The flower beds are waste high with weeds. Cob weds through out the cabin. Roof leaks on the back porch. Serious Respiratory issues during the stay. Curtains and bed spreads need to be burned. The loft ceiling height is about 4’ high, Not possible for adults. The pool room is too small to actually play pool. We had to call house keeping to reclean the cabin two times. We ended up cleaning it ourselves just to make it livable. We had to wash the bed spreads ourselves.
