Weekend Getaway

We (2 adults, 11 year old child and a dog) stayed at Twin Pines for a long weekend (3 nights) and it was lovely. The cottage is cozy and located beautifully on Cayuga Lake, and a 20 minute drive from Ithaca. The hosts, Ed and Dennis are very helpful and kind, showed us around the property and gave us good local recommendations for our stay. Would return again if in the area! Thank you!

Great location and great views

This property is well maintained and provided us with the perfect place for our annual trip to the Finger Lakes. We loved the proximity to sites like the Falls and Ithaca. The cottage has great views in every room! There is plenty of room for a family of 4 or 6 to spread out and relax! The lake are was private and had ample space. We would stay here again in the future!

Beautiful setting

The cottage is full of personality and charm with lovely views of the lake. The location was perfect for our touring around the Finger Lakes and for quiet mornings and relaxing evenings. You need a vehicle that can navigate a rocky driveway and legs that can handle lots of steps.

Very Relaxing

We were visiting our son at college and looking forward to a relaxing, enjoyable fall weekend on the lake. Mission accomplished! The hosts are easily accessible and very responsive. The cottage is clean and comfortable. No neighbors are close enough to be a potential bother. The view is beautiful. We split our outside time between the deck and the wonderful fire-ring/dock area by the lake and enjoyed every minute. The only "4" I gave was because it is a little difficult to drive to, but don't let that deter you, the destination is worth the journey!

Wonderful time at Twin Pines

We've spent a week at Twin Pines cottage, a family of 4. We really enjoyed it. Communication with the owners is easy, they respond very quickly and provide detailed info. The cottage sits on a beautiful spot. We dont do wineries but regardless, we've had other fun activities everyday of the week- horseback riding, fishing charter, sunset sailing tour, pontoon boat and tube rental, a visit to local Alpaca farm, Ithaca Farmer's market, Discover Cayuga eco lake tour and so on. We enjoyed our barbeque on the beach and explored nearby forest a bit. What a great time! Thank you very much, Dennis and Ed for allowing us to stay here.

Finger Lakes ‘23

Beautiful spot- stairs to the beach a challenge, but knew that going in. Plenty of information left about places t visit & things to do. Didn’t realize before we got there that Ithaca and the small town of Trumansburg were kind of it. Owner was delightful and helpful.

Time well spent

Visited with a friend- both of us needed a “reboot” to de-stress and re-energize. What a great retreat! The cottage was wonderful and filled with character (unique, comfortable, clean, well furnished). The area was beautiful and definition of serene. The hosts were friendly, helpful with referrals for the area, and accessible if needed. They are obviously committed to being good hosts and commited to being great spokes persons for the Finger Lakes and Ithaca area. Time at Twin Pines was 10+ !!

Can’t get enough of the views

We just could not get enough of the views and the vibe of the lake house. We were outside most of the time just taking it all in. Our dog also had a blast… a great jumping point to explore the area. We will be back!

Heavenly Relaxation

It’s all about the view. It is lovely to wake up in the morning to see the sun rising over the lake and then drink your morning coffee on the back porch with the same lakeside view. Then you can walk down to the lake and take a dip or just soak up some rays. The location is ideal. It’s close to many of the gorges for hiking, or Ithaca for more of a city vibe. Dennis and Ed are amiable hosts who cannot do enough for their guests.

Already planning next visit!

We planned a shirt getaway to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Could not have picked a better place! The day we were to arrive awful weather was expected and the owner graciously allowed us to arrive early, so we avoided the stress of traveling through terrible storms. The place has both rustic charm and impeccable taste. I know the owners did not create the nature and view but it was awesome! Can hardly wait to return again.

Peace on Lake Cayuga

This lake house has amazing views from the deck and a wonderful beach area with fire pit to relax right on the shore! We stayed for a family reunion, and, after a good many gatherings in Ithaca, this served as our peaceful oasis retreat where we’d recharge and settle after busy days. The birds singing and the sound of the water from your bed—how serene! Great kitchen stocked with all the things we needed. Special thanks to our hosts for providing all the purified water! This home was very comfortable and cozy; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return!

Relax and enjoy

The Twin Pines Cottage was a lovely place to stay for our family of four on the lake, and the location offered great access to the lake itself directly from the property. The cottage offered a beautiful of the lake 24 hours a day. Trumansburg offers much for a such a little town, and Ithaca is just down the road a bit father. If you like to dine out, you're going to need to stay a while to sample the many options in the area. The hosts were very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed at the cottage, which was already nicely supplied, especially in terms of kitchen tools. Overall, it is a peaceful place where you can let you kids have fun on and in the water.

So much potential!

We were incredibly excited to book this location, the views are splendid and the privacy is unmatched! We had a great weekend. Cleanliness: we stayed in early October, so likely the cabin was nearing the end of its season of use. But there were cobwebs around some furniture with spiders and dust on ceiling fans, in high ceiling corners and above sleeping areas. As well, we were made aware of a bee problem on the deck, the night of our arrival that dampened our morning coffee views. The property could use a deep clean, but other than that it was very organized and comfortable. We consistently reminded ourselves it was a cabin but for spending a lot of $$$ on a 3 night weekend VRBO rather than a state park cabin, it should have been in better shape. Hosts: were great! Their introduction and availability was very compassionate. They have a wonderful property. When messaged about the spider web/cleanliness issue they came over that day to clean the areas we had pointed out in our message. Overall: If you’re comfortable with the daily rate and some dust and dirt, go for it! It’s a cute and cozy lived in cabin. Be mindful that the rooms upstairs are shared by a thin wall and sliding glass door so there is little privacy up there. The views in the summer and the zero entry water access would have me sold. Thank you to the hosts:)

About the host

Hosted by Dennis Stein

Host profile image
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I've called Ithaca and the bountiful Finger Lakes region home for the last 30 years. Living in downtown Ithaca, I greatly enjoy the contrast between the vibrant urban downtown and the peaceful, wide-open vistas around the lakes. My co-owner Ed, also a transplant who takes inspiration from the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region, has lived in downtown Ithaca with his family even longer.

Why they chose this property

Twin Pines is a cozy cottage that guests regularly describe as very welcoming, homey, and complete with amenities to maximize comfort and experience . (See the numerous reviews.)

When the cottage went on the market in 2006, the seller shared that because of the sheer beauty of the view, several potential out-of-area buyers expressed plans to tear down the cottage and replace it with a much larger contemporary house.

We decided to buy the building so that its simple beauty and great view of the lake could be preserved and enjoyed by friends, vacationers and guests alike.

What makes this property unique

Twin Pines is replete with original architectural details. Some of the furnishings are handmade, and the front door was crafted by Mary Shelley, a renowned local woodworking artist in Ithaca.

We happily feature the original work of other local and regional artists.
