Come stay with us on Higgins Lake, the 6th most beautiful lake in the world according to National Geographic. Our cottage is private, it's on 1/4 acre of land with 160 ft. of beach frontage, we have boat mooring and lots of parking. We're on the southern part - "small lake" It's the most sought-after area because of its calmer waters, the sandy beach and shallow waters loved by families. We are across from the South State Park, a short drive from our cottage. We have a dock and a patio with patio furniture, picnic table, hammock, and loveseat swing. Our local convenience store and two great restaurants are in walking distance. All bedrooms have views of the lake, we have knotty pine walls in the dining room, sitting room and family room with wrap-around windows facing the lake; a small library of books and videos; games; Our cottage has a real "up north" feel- it's rustic, full of character and very comfortable. It's been in our family for over 80 years. It is not a renovated cottage, but we include many conveniences for your comfort (see amenities) and we keep it very clean. We will greet you when you arrive by phone (available for those who want this service!) and be your personal concierge about Higgins Lake and the surrounding areas. This cottage is a great value for those who are looking for rustic, or those who want to pass on the higher costs of a fully renovated cottage which commands resort pricing. Wonderful vacation

We had a great week staying at Wendy’s Higgins Lake cottage! Wendy was a great communicator- I reached out with several questions and she was quick to respond and very friendly. The cottage was clean and perfect for our small family. The beach was so relaxing and amazing for our small children. We would love to be back!

Beautiful lakefront peice of history.

You will come for the lakefront location, but stay for the beautiful historic up north cabin. It has all of the amenities you need with the charm of simple cabin up north. We loved it as a family, but really look forward to visiting it again with friends to enjoy the serenity that’s found in this location. This place is a true gem.

Nostalgic cabin feel

We loved our time with the family at the cottage. The main room and front porch are highlights. You have to appreciate the hardwood floors, pine walls and ceiling, and massive field stone fireplace with full mantle. You just don't see rooms like that anymore. It's a great atmosphere to gather and catch up with everybody or just sit by yourself and read a book.

Great Getaway!

This property was exactly what our group wanted! Wendy was a joy to work with. The Cabin was spacious & Clean with all the amenities! The Lake and Beach were perfect! We had no problems and a GREAT stay hope to be back again!

Simple Rustic Clean

Beautiful week on a beautiful lake!

My family and friends had a wonderful time on our stay at Higgins Lake! There were 4 adults and 3 children and the house had more than enough room to accommodate us all comfortably. The beach area was awesome - perfect for young kids to play in the sand and swim in the lake as it stays shallow. Wendy is very informative and does all she can to ensure you have a great stay. Highly recommend!!

A truly wonderful week

The cottage was exactly what we expected and we all loved it. We had all the conveniences of home with the beautiful view of the water. Couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate our 65th anniversary with all our family with us. Love This Cottage

We have stayed here for several years now and will return again. First of all, it has a great beach for lounging and swimming. Higgins Lake is one of the clearest and largest lakes in Michigan. A boat mooring line is provided and plenty of room to add another, which we do. The cottage is always clean. It seems small at first sight, but it accommodates our group of 4 couples nicely. I personally have slept in all the bedrooms over the years but love the porch the best. It is so great to fall asleep listening to the waves lapping on the shore. Fires at night in the back yard are always a nice way to end the day. Wendy is a fantastic host. She is always available to answer questions and invites ideas on how she can make our stay even better.

Beautiful views!

Our stay at the cabin was an amazing experience! Sitting by the water and dipping your feet in by the dock was the perfect vacation. Wendy also made things very easy and was very communicative. Anything we needed she was on it! As mentioned in the description, this is definitely a cottage feel, but we knew that going in and actually prefer that! Also, make sure to reach out to Load and Go Rentals for kayaks for your trip. They drive them over and will leave them with you allowed for tons of time on the water. Will be staying here agon

Best location on Higgins Lake

My husband and our 4 teenage boys stayed for a week at Wendy's amazing place. The location was absolutely beautiful and the views of the lake were unbeatable. The space outside was great for playing corn hole relaxing in the hammock and gathering around the fire pit. There were a lot of trees for privacy and shade and the beach was amazing and clean. The water out front was shallow and beautiful and made for a great view lying in the chaise lounge chairs provided. Inside the layout was perfect for a bigger family like ours. The back bedroom offered privacy away from our teens and had a private bath right off the bedroom. The 2 other bedrooms were a good size one with a queen bed and the other with 2 twins and were close to the main bath which was very large and spacious. The front room with 2 additional twin beds and an amazing view of the lake There is a dining area with a living area that gave us enough room to spread out when we were not on the lake. Yes, the cabin is old-fashioned but my husband and I felt like we were at our grandmother's place with all the homey details. The cabin was very clean and was a lot bigger than the pictures led us to believe. Wendy was incredible to work with and her communication and care for our stay were beyond excellent. We will be back without question!

The Iconic Up North Getaway

If you are looking for the iconic up north experience, we strongly suggest Wendy's place. Wendy's family home offers the perfect mix of rustic-ness and modern amenities that made for a memorable trip. The property is as advertised, i.e. private drive right on the water that offers amazing sunrises and sunsets. A short drive to downtown Roscommon for all needs and groceries. The home is a well cared for 80 year old gem that is warm and welcoming. While it carries a rustic feel (wood floors, classic cabinetry, stone fireplace) it also has all modern needs for comfort. There is no A/C...but do not worry. Our week was a record heat wave (90 plus) and we were still comfortable at night with a fan or two (2 adults, one infant). As for Wendy, she goes above and beyond as a host. Prior to the stay her guidance was invaluable (saved us $400 on a pontoon rental). After the stay, her follow up was impeccable. We did have two power outages due to weather. Although technically not her responsibility, she checked in on us regularly and helped us navigate a late dinner. We hope to return to Wendy's home again...we believe you will enjoy it as much as we did.

It was very rustic, a very northern woods getaway

We had a little trouble at the beginning trying to rent the property, but it all worked out in the end. I wish VRBO could have made us aware of what was going on.

Wonderful week vacation on the lake!

The property is exactly as it is described, but the pictures really do not do it justice. It is much bigger than we thought it would be and there was so much great space for our family. We loved being right on the beach and hanging out on the property. The kids laid in their hammocks in the shade and we had a wonderful time. The host, Wendy, is amazing and incredible helpful. Her communication was excellent and we always felt very taken care of. If you are looking for a place to stay right on the lake at beautiful Higgins Lake - we would highly recommend this property!

Peaceful neighborhood

We loved the property! We had 8 people, 6 of which were single or young adults, and everyone got their own bed! The beds were so comfortable too! The cabin was easy to find with gps and near a gas station while not far from other things like ice cream parlors. The beach is sandy & beautiful while the lake area had minimal rocks. We’ve stayed at many cabins around the lake and this is definitely in the top couple. Wendy was so easy to get a hold of and always very kind. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a calm and peaceful lake front vacation.

Great house great experience

My family and I throughly enjoyed our experience at this waterfront cabin. It was a good size, clean, easy to find and had privacy from neighbors. The boat launch is about 3 houses away and a very short walk back to the cabin. Wendy was easy to work work with, easily accessible and provided clear instructions on our stay. We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely stay here again!

Even better than we expected!

This is the perfect home to spend some time with your family. First, the owner is fantastic to work with. Everything was clearly communicated to us and the check in was a breeze. 2nd, the house is just amazing. You can feel the family history throughout the home and it makes you happy to be a part of it. The house has everything you need and nothing you don't. It is clean and very comfortable and is way more spacious than we expected. Last but certainly not least, Location! I can't believe there is a lake like this in Michigan. The water is crystal clear and the private beach makes it easy to enjoy. We brought our boat and enjoyed some bass fishing and watching the sunset from out on the water. My family loved it and we can't wait to return.

Good memories

Our family really enjoyed our recent stay. The rustic charm of the cabin was reminiscent of my childhood vacations. We had plenty of room for life and sleeping in the front porch was delightful--cool breezes, moon beams, and the sound of the lake. The lake front was generous, clean and a great place to make castles and play games. We spent lots of time in the lake with our littles. It was good.

Higgins Lake Cabin

Wonderful property. Very rustic old time traditional type cabin. The beach was clean and the water was great for swimming. Shallow out beyond the dock. Most everything you need is there, and the owner is nice and very accessible.

Charming stay at Higgins Lake

This was our first time doing a VRBO and we had a really great experience. The house is really the charming up north experience you need when you stay at Higgins Lake. The beach front property was exactly what we wanted - natural and sandy. Lots of wild blueberries, milkweed and ferns which we love. Of course the lake is spectacular and this place has a really nice beach. From the pictures we honestly expected the house to be tiny but we were pleasantly surprised - the place was laid out nicely and the bedrooms were nicely sized. We were able to do all the cooking we needed to in the kitchen from big breakfasts to dinners and no issues finding pots and pans etc to get the job done. Wendy was very accommodating and easy to work with. The place was clean. This was really a hidden gem for us. We will definitely be coming back to stay for another vacation.

Welcome to our cottage that has been in our family since 1939. My mom was 8 years old when she and her family began spending summers here and I have been coming up with family for summers my entire life. We love our cottage and its rustic feel. We are looking for families who will treat our cottage as their own. We purposely are not modern, but we keep our home very clean for all our visitors and add comfortable modern additions like, for example, electrical adapters for all your tech, etc.
Our wish is to help you have a memorable vacation and love our cottage and fabulous beach as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

We love the rustic up north feel of our cottage. Where we are located on the lake. Being able to walk down paths, walk to a nearby store, and that our part of the lake is shallow for a ways going out so all the kids in our family just love being able to walk out into the lake really far! And how soft and sandy the lake is, how clear the water is.
