About this property

Waterfront on the Bay, Private White Sand Beach, Awesome Views

Spectacular sunrises can be viewed from the screened or open deck each morning while you enjoy coffee. Actually there are great views from just about every window and location on site. Our house is very private and joins a twenty acre nature preserve abundant with wildlife.

The home is like living in a "tree house" as many of our guests have described it.

The Bay is thirty feet in front of our house and great for watersports, fishing, and boating. We have a small sand beach there, great for children or to tie up your boat if you bring one (fishing is great here too). The Gulf main beach is a block away with beautiful white sand beaches, great for surf fishing or just relaxing and taking in the sun and view.
On the main level we have a large sun deck and a screened porch.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with a table for four and a bar for two. The family room has a large leather sectional, stressless leather recliner and a flat screen TV. And for sleeping there is a master bedroom with queen sleep number bed and a loft bedroom with one queen, one double and a single twin beds. Down below on the lower covered patio you will find a outdoor sink, outdoor shower, half bath/toilet, picnic tables and a comfortable swing where you can continue to view the beautiful Bay. There is also a Weber gas and charcoal grill and a fire pit.

Bring your boat or Kayak, have fun exploring the bay and waterways, tie them up on our private sand beach. Or use our Kayak's, we have a small child and regular adult size with paddles.

Impromptu get away

This property is a home that is loved and sometimes rented on vrbo. It is clearly loved and has paintaings on the underhouse support columns. So sweet. We enjoyed the two porches and the seating under the house. It is lkke a tree house by the bay. There is an oyster bed beside the house's beach that sppears and disappears with the changing tide. We saw dolphins, rays, black drum, several birds. Fished and caught flounder and cleaned at the outside cleaning ststion. We enjoyed our padddle boards there and saw white squirrels on our walk. The house accomodated the two of us nicely. I especially enjoyed the artsy ecclectic menagerie of wall art, lighting, and knick knacks that are whimsical for a beach house. We enjoyed the peace here and ate at the tiki hut grill with our poodle. We also went to the town to eat at the Triton restaurant. We want to go there again.

Beach turned Bay Bums!!

Love this property! First time staying on the bay and we were pleasantly surprised with how much we enjoyed it. This isnt your typical bay property, you get the beach area to lounge and subtle waves without the insane wind or giant waves beating you down. Great fishing as well! Caught flounder, reds, mullet, and more! The dolphins passed through multiple times a day too. The deck, screened porch, and under house area are perfect for lounging after a day in the sun. They also provide plenty of fans everywhere so if there is not a natural breeze they provide more than enough fans to simulate one. You only have neighbors on one side so privacy is fantastic which is great when traveling with pets. Interior: This home included everything you would need for anything. The master bed was super comfy! We only peeked in the loft area but it seemed spacious for sleeping purposes. Dont be concerned about the window units, they are beast! 10/10 would def come here again.

Quiet Get Away

I wanted a place in Florida that had low Covid rates and where it was easy to social distance. This place was perfect! Alligator Point has a few full time residents, but is mostly vacation homes. There were no crowds anywhere! We love the quirkiness of the octagon shape and its effect on the walls inside. Yes, you had to go up stairs, but that is how most of the houses in the area were built. The owners have done very nice job of turning the area under the house into a nice living area. We grilled out down there on multiple nights and enjoyed the porch swing, picnic table and views. The inside was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was well stocked and updated. I loved the view of the bay from the deck. There is a loft that would be perfect for children or grandchildren. I loved how this place belongs to a family, and you could see that it is a work in progress, not some bland place that is only rented out again and again, They are currently working on putting a roof over the deck. There is a small sand beach in front of the house or you can walk to the beach - only a couple of blocks away. This was the perfect get away!

Peaceful and Relaxing

We had some friends getting married on Alligator Point and needed a place nearby that was also pet friendly. This was our first time to Alligator Point and it was wonderful! The home was comfortable and quiet and had everything we needed for my wife to cook a few things for the wedding as well as for our meals while we stayed. We especially loved the downstairs area near the water, very chill and relaxing! All of the instructions from the owner for very clear and communication was excellent! Thank you so much! We look forward to visiting again soon.

Alligator Point

We loved staying in this house for the week! It was so nice to be able to walk right out there door to the bay and small beach that we had to ourselves! The porch was so peaceful to eat meals on and drink coffee :) It was only a short walk to the beach as well which was perfect! I would definitely recommend for a nice, low key vacation!

DON'T EXPECT A DOCK

BEFORE RENTING THIS HOME FOR OUR 5 NIGHT FISHING VACATION, I ASKED THE OWNER WHAT KIND OF FISH WE COULD EXPECT TO CATCH FROM THE PIER AS WE WERE SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR A PLACE WITH A COVERED DOCK TO FISH FROM. HE WROTE BACK: REDS, TROUT AND FLOUNDER WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANTED TO CATCH. AS SOON AS WE ARRIVED, WE REALIZED THAT THE DOCK IN THE PICTURE DOES NOT BELONG TO THIS HOME. WE BELIEVE THAT THE PICTURE WAS PURPOSELY TAKEN TO SHOW THE DOCK IN ORDER TO FOOL POTENTIAL RENTERS. WE FELT LIED TO SINCE THE OWNER NEVER MENTIONED THAT THE DOCK WAS NOT HIS WHEN WE INQUIRED ABOUT THE FISHING. WE WERE FORCED TO FISH FROM THE SHORE THE ENTIRE TIME WITH NO COVER AND COULDN'T GET THE BAIT OUT AS FAR AS WE WOULD'VE LIKED. ALTHOUGH NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE SUCCESS IN FISHING, WE DID NOT CATCH ANY REDS, TROUT OR FLOUNDER AT ALL AFTER USING FROZEN SHRIMP, LIVE SHRIMP, MULLET CHUNKS AND LURES. ALL WE CAUGHT WAS SOME CATFISH, A SMALL STINGRAY AND A GRUNT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RESULTS. IN ADDITION TO THE FISHING LET-DOWN, WE ENDED UP LEAVING EARLY AFTER FINDING ONE DEAD AND 3 LIVE COCKROACHES IN THE HOME. MY WIFE COULD NOT IMAGINE STAYING ONE MORE NIGHT AFTER THAT. WHEN I BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE TO THE OWNER AFTER WE LEFT, HE STATED THAT IT IS COMMON FOR ROACHES ON THE COAST TO COME INSIDE HOMES IN FLORIDA AFTER RAIN STORMS. NO DISCOUNT WAS OFFERED. MY WIFE AND I LIVE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA IN A STAND OF PINE WOODS AND WE DO NOT HAVE ROACHES COME INTO OUR HOME WHEN IT RAINS. ACCORDINGLY, I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THE HOME IS NOT BEING PROPERLY FUMIGATED AND SEALED FROM PESTS. THE INSIDE OF THE HOME IS FULL OF PERSONAL ITEMS IN: BATHROOM MEDICINE CABINET, KITCHEN PANTRY, BEDROOM CLOSET, WALLS AND ITEMS ON FURNITURE. IT WAS AS IF THE OWNERS LIVE THERE AND LEFT FOR A FEW NIGHTS SO WE COULD STAY THERE. THE REFRIGERATOR WAS PACKED WITH ALL KINDS OF THEIR FOOD, INCLUDING STEAKS! SCREENS ON THE SLIDING GLASS DOORS WOULD'VE BEEN A NICE TOUCH. THIS MAY HAVE VERY WELL BEEN OUR WORST VACATION EXPERIENCE.

perfect location

We spend Christmas on the beach in this cute beach house. It's a little older beach house, but perfectly located on the bay, within a short walk from the beach. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. The bay is perfect for kayaking (we brought our own). There are local mom-and-pap fish restaurants in driving distance with great food. We didn't have the greatest weather, but still had a wonderful time with beach walks with our dog. I can recommend this place for an active or laid back vacation.

Charming and cozy vacation rental with a beautiful view!

This was the perfect little getaway for my boyfriend and I! We wanted to stay in an area that was not full of tourists and Alligator Point was the perfect spot. The house was cozy and perfect for just the two of us. We didn’t really need a huge space for vacation and we knew we’d spend most of our time out exploring, so this spot really met what we needed. It had a great beach out front and was short walking distance from the ocean. The house was clean and Curtis was very helpful and efficient with any questions I asked. We will hopefully be returning in the future!

Great beach house!

We love Alligator Point and this was such a great house, with its own little private beach and awesome outdoor areas. The downstairs deck with its picnic tables, chairs, swings, and grill is definitely where we spent the most time. We cooked all our own meals and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. Beds were comfortable, plenty of space in the sleeping loft, we would go back in a heartbeat!

Verified traveller

Everything it was advertized to be.

If you are looking for a glitzy destination near lots of glitzy attractions, this is not the place for you. Alligator Point is truly part of Florida's forgotten coast. The property does have gorgeous views on a quiet wooded lot just yards from the bay. The house was supplied with most everything needed to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Do remember to bring your favorite essentials and plan to supplement when you are inland on one of the many worthwhile excursions. A great place to relax.

Disappointed

We came in nov. And the house is very small and looks lived In we only stayed on night bc we had to find somewhere else to stay be prepared to the pretty much camping idea there is only a pedestal fan for heat that is small if you want hot water in the shower plan on calling the owner bc it will not just work magically the fold out sofa is awful bc of the mattress and the loft don't plan on standing or moving around bed on left and bed on right as soon as you get to the top of the ladder they will not refund you! !#!

Awesome Vacation!

We had an awesome time at Alligator Point! The house was perfect for our family! It was very cozy and had everything we needed. Plus, the views were incredible from all sides of the house! The kids loved playing on the little beach at the house and were so excited to see all the fiddler and hermit crabs! The public beach access was a short walk from the house and we saw maybe 10 people on the beach the whole time we were there! It was so nice! We caught all kinds of critters, even a few rays, which the kids thought was so cool! The area under the house was great too! We could sit on the swing and watch the kids play in the sand. We made a fire in R2D2 and roasted marshmallows! We had family that stayed at the campground close by and they came over and loved the house too! We went to Wakulla Springs State Park and did a boat tour and went swimming. That is a definite MUST DO for anyone coming to the area! We ended up going back to Wakulla Springs 3 times during our stay because we loved it so much! There are several great little restaurants in the area. Our favorites were Posey's Steamroom and Hutton's Seafood Truck! Both were fantastic! We will definitely be coming back! The laid back atmosphere of the whole area is awesome! It was one of the best vacations we've ever had!

Only the Best!!!

This vacation property can be described as "only the best"!!! The house has a beautiful view of the bay from the deck. The rustic atmosphere makes one feel very comfortable and "at home". Our stay was for only one night and we were so glad that it was available on short notice. Much better than a motel room!! This rental will not disappoint no matter what the occasion or if it IS on short notice! I would not hesitate to recommend this very appealing property and location to anyone who is looking for natural beauty and quiet solitude.

Best vacation ever!

This place had everything we wanted and needed. It was a quiet little place in a quiet little town and had amazing views. The bay is out front we saw all kinds of wildlife(even had a visit from a hunting dolphin). There is a little marsh area right next door with birds a fiddler crabs. The main gulf beach is a 5 minute walk up the road. We made a fire in r2d2 downstairs and sat on the porch swing while our kids did tricks on the "swing board". Everything we needed for the week was provided...it truly felt like our home away from home. We will be back as often as we can.

Viola House

To future renters of Viola House (caveat emptor). The online pictures do not do the place justice. The description states the current owners purchased the house 20 years ago and there is 20 years of accumulated clutter. The ground level is so full of untidiness that you can’t even walk a straight line to the bay without bumping into something. The charcoal grill was almost rusted out, gas grill on the porch in worse shape. I’m not sure what to make of R2D2? I had hoped to fish from the dock, but was sadly disappointed that the dock belonged to the adjoining property. The outside toilet isn’t plumbed in and the outside shower has “graffiti” for lack of a better word, written on the walls that might have been funny at one time, but not as a rental. The wind blew the cover off the golf cart, which I replaced and having worked on them, electric ones need to be plugged in all the time. Upon arrival, there were towels with holes hanging on the porch and dishes drying in the sink. It made it feel like you were visiting your aunt and uncle’s for the week, but they had left to run an errand. There were no house rules/welcoming book, but a faded, dirty piece of paper on the refrigerator to “leave the place as you found it.” Kitchen utensils and cooking pots were just thrown into the cabinets, not organized. Some leftover food in the refrigerator, pantry and shelf was outdated, ie. I threw away a red bean/rice mix with an expiration date of March 2011. No screens for the sliders. I now understand why there were no pictures of the bedroom or bathroom. The bathroom does not appear to have ever been updated and contained too many personal items. The shower didn’t drain, but that was nothing a bottle of drain cleaner couldn’t solve. The shower P-trap leaked to the outside. The mismatched towels were worn thin and felt like they had been demoted to the “beach house.” The bedroom closet contained a small bureau with more personal things, but there were too many items of clothing hanging in the closet to hang mine. Clothing lived on the floor or out of a suitcase. One positive, the bed was made and comfortable. A little unsettling was the obituary under the coffee table glass top. I could go on, but why bother. The owners should put a little of the rental money into Viola House and not their pockets. As a friend once said, no recommendation is a recommendation. Caveat emptor.

This is the Goldilocks of vacation properties. It's just right! The home was spotless upon arrival. It was just as represented. The home owner is a dream to work with. The location is nice. We enjoyed sunrise on the deck and sunset strolls over to the gulf. We will be back for sure

About the host

Hosted by Curtis Ward

Host profile image
We bought this home in 1995 for our personal use, not as a money making investment. However with the high cost of owning a Florida coastal property we have decided to rent some to help off set the costs of owning the home. We still use the property every chance we get.

Why they chose this property

We are located in a very quiet, safe and low traffic neighborhood. We are situated next to a 25 acre nature preserve and in a private location. We usually fish, swim, boat, sunbathe and just hang out at our home on our little private beach as opposed to walking down to the public beach. However the public beach is only a block away.

What makes this property unique

Private beach, nature preserve next door, unique design and layout of property. Well equipped kitchen
