Perfect place for a planning retreat

A church staff planning retreat for our Christmas events for next year. It was the perfect place and everything we needed. Love also the animals and while it was bitter cold and snowing all week not just the view was incredible but the animals were still all around the property. It was a winter wonderland and wonderful animals just made it that much better. Its definitely a place we can highly recommend.

But the hidden bonus was morning reveille the Roster provided, wishing us a Merry Christmas. Thank You Moreen we had a wonderful Christmas at your home.

Perfect Place for the Event

The property is fairly remote, which, to me, is especially nice! It was very welcoming and cozy. Maurine is a wonderful hostess meeting our needs and offering horse rides for my two grandkids. I was here for my dad's funeral. So, all the animals and comfort of the home were very nice. I loved our stay and would definitely recommend this beautiful place.

It was just like staying at granny’s house!

We loved our stay! Eight family members from across the country gathered for a wedding in Lapeer. We had plenty of beds, bathrooms, and privacy; but more importantly, a spacious, homey, kitchen/dining area where we could ALL sit around and chit chat. Plenty of cookware for preparing late night pizza rolls. Morning offered rocking chairs on the front porch where we sipped coffee and watched the farm animals going about their business on the warm fall day. This may not be the house for guests with an aversion to farm life because of the smells, dirt, and noise that come with it but for us, it was just like being at grandmas house. I only with we could have stayed longer.

Family reunion

We had reunion in the area. It was convenient. The home has three areas main bedroom, up one bedroom and down 2. Each of the 3 areas had a full bath. Lots of space, great working kitchen and lots of seating. We enjoyed the wrap around porch and the country air overlooking the pastures and animals. Fire pit out back with a stack of wood was inviting. Enjoy your stay.

Farmhouse stay

The house is beautiful and comfortable and has all the amenities we needed to cook meals. Being on a farm with retired horses, sheep and goats was fun -- my daughters and mother all enjoyed feeding the horses with finger carrots. And Maurine explained everything and was very responsive to questions we had. We had a lovely two nights there.

Family summer vacay

All the kids including the adults absolutely loved hanging out and petting all the animals. They were all really sweet. The kids would just run out the door and wonder around the farm. The adults enjoyed the large spacious kitchen and hanging out on the porch. Small little beach 6 min away and other cute towns for shopping and eating about 30-60 min away. We all definitely enjoyed our stay. The kids will hopefully remember and cherish this unique, fun and relaxing farm house vacation.

Wonderful surprise

We were pleasantly surprised at the space available in this beautiful farm house. We were close enough to visit family and friends. The biggest impact was the animals. The farm help were wonderful with the children and my kiddos absolutely loved that we were staying somewhere with our 'animals' for the weekend! Big thanks to Maurine for ensuring we were settled and had everything we needed!

Rescue animal farm

This farmhouse is in a rural area of Columbiaville with many varieties of animals wandering around! All very friendly! It sets way off the road and you have to manually open a gate to enter/ leave! The farmhouse beds are comfortable and plenty of room to sit for groups! There are no chairs around the bonfire so that was disappointing! Big front porch tho to sit on and watch the animals roaming around.

Family Time - sometimes you just gotta get

Was a great way to enjoy adventures of animals and the great outdoors!! The day filled with energetic activity outside and the evening filled with games and laughter inside! Loved both the outdoor and indoor! Perfect for our 3 family gathering where we were all together during the day, and had separate family retreat areas for sleeping at night! We would recommend to any young family (s) that want to be out of doors with horses and goats and a sheep and cats and indoors with great kitchen area and family gathering tables for games and dinners! Thanks Maurine and Steve and Roy for this amazing “must ! enter action “ experience !

Great Farmhouse

We have stayed at multiple farm houses, and like the others this one does not disappoint. Once we got over the mess that VRBO made with our reservation, everything worked out great. It is a working horse farm with many horses, goats and sheep. The horses are great to watch from the covered porch, the sheep will keep an eye on you, and the goats will amuse. Brought the kayaks out back to the river, which was great fun. The dog loved to run in the fields and short trails in the back. Inside a good kitchen with most everything that you would need. Great history of horses throughout the large and open house. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Week

We stayed at the farm house for a week. The house is beautiful and very comfortable and clean. One of the previous guests left a bad review and stated it was dirty, it's a farm, bring some boots! It was a great experience to get to know the animals and learn their personalities, they looked forward to the carrots and sliced apples every day as much as we enjoyed treating them. So much work goes into caring for these sweet animals and Maurine does a great job, she even took time out to show our grandson the baby ducks. It was also just a short walk to the Holloway Reservoir where we had some luck with some nice size catfish. I'm thankful for the week we shared with the horses and goats! Thanks Maurine!

Country Horse Farm

We had a lovely time with friends. There was fishing, kyaking, antique shopping, going to the beach, s'mores around the fire pit, and horses, goats, a donkey, and several farm fowl on the property to enjoy watching and/or feeding. Inside the house we had plenty of seating. The kitchen had 2 ovens and an island for serving and seating. There was a small table for playing Euchre and a large dining table too. The house had two decks. I enjoyed coffee on the deck watching the animals in the morning. The view from the back deck was peaceful. I do wish there had been some shade on the back deck although the breeze was lovely. Overall, it was a fun place to get together.

Communing with Nature

First of all, a warm thank you to Maurine, our hostess, who not only provided an absolutely beautiful home and loads of friendly and engaging animals for us to enjoy, but shines in her role as protector of the old, broken down and unwanted creatures who now have a home in her care. Our family of 6 is chock full of animal and nature lovers, so we had a truly wonderful visit. The guest house is a warm and welcoming place, decorated with French country charm and features a huge great room, wrap-around decks, chef's kitchen, a piano, fireplaces, 3 floors of rooms, great amenities and plenty of space for relaxing. The outdoors are shady and include a fire pit, which our family used almost every night. There were kayaks to take to the nearby lake, and a little dock where we fished as well. We watched sunrises and sunsets, and felt truly at home. But above all, the farm itself was the most wonderful part of our stay. Animals were everywhere, and we literally had free reign to walk around and "play" with them all day. It was not unusual to see us up in the morning in our pj's walking around looking for the kitties, or sitting on the porch waiting for the "jail break" when the goats were let out of the barn. We walked the long driveway lined th paddocks for the horses on each side, and made friends with them as they nuzzled our hands. Bottom line, if you love interacting with nature, you will not be disappointed here. Once again, Maurine, thanks again for your hospitality.

A magical farm and home.

We have stayed here multiple times and enjoyed every visit. A true farm experience; you can feed and spend time w/horses, goats, sheep and more. My son and his friends were in heaven interacting w/and feeding all the animals. We fished and canoed in the river bordering the property. Maurine is a wonderful host and a huge animal lover, whose farm is home to many injured and rescued creatures. Goats saved from auctions are living their best lives, roaming free, chomping hay and hanging out. Retired race horses graze in pastures, a blind pig, a goose who thinks he is a goat, a very elderly donkey, named Sassafras, and so many more reside here. The home is gorgeous, well-appointed and so welcoming. We love making meals in the huge kitchen, sleeping in the amazingly soft beds and listening to nature from the windows. All of this is not to say that you don't need good boots, the knowledge that barns/farms are messy and sometimes smelly places. The roosters crow loudly in the morning and the fences will always need painting. We discovered Maurine's farm during the pandemic and it has quickly become a happy place for our family. We hope other discover the magic we have felt here.
