A fantastic location for accessing Olympic National Park and boasts a quarter mile loop nature walk through the lush forest right out the back door. Nature trails, picnic table, fire pit, and river shoreline provide guests the opportunity to enjoy local fun. An evening BBQ, followed by a walk along the sparkling waters of the Sol Duc river or exploring the mature stands of Vine Maple, Hemlock, Fir and Spruce trees via the nature trail, then gaze at the milky way while feeling the warmth of a bonfire (free wood) makes the perfect day. Plan an extra day to enjoy the immediate area and relax in a zero gravity chair while watching the sparkling waters of the Sol Duc River. The yard is open and sunny with a small orchard. The land slopes softly to the river allowing for easy water access for fishing or swimming directly from the property. You will find yourself truly relaxing as this house and location provide privacy and luxury.
Location allows easy access to enjoy Olympic National Park's green, mossy walks among giant fir, spruce and cedar trees, strolling the coastal beaches searching for seaborne treasures, locating yourself at the northwestern most corner of the continental US, pleasant picnics on Lake Crescent, a soak in the hot springs or alpine hikes in any one of the multiple entrances to the vast Olympic range.
With WiFi, one can work or share adventure photos while here and DishTV keeps entertainment as well as local and national news and information at your finger tips. Smart TV allows you to access your streaming accounts.

Two bedrooms, both fitted with king beds, and private bath for each, A Pack and Play and inflatable mattress are available for a couple of young kids. The luxury of this house boasts a large kitchen with serving bar that opens into a grand living room featuring a multiple recliner sectional sofa and 56 inch 4 K television with DISH TV. Watch the wild birds, deer, rabbits or elk while sitting at the dining room table and get ready to explore your backyard. Escape with an old fashioned Bar-B-Q on your graveled patio with bluetooth connected outdoor speakers or watch the flames flicker in the firepit while you roast marshmallows and remember the amazing day touring Olympic National Park. Visit the ocean or the old woods; hike, fish, bike, whatever your fancy as you surround yourselves in the pleasures of this luxury stay in a spectacular ecosystem.

Absolutely wonderful!
This house in the forest is wonderful! It has everything - great beds, kitchen, living room, tv, tubs and showers. The decor is fabulous. Green out of every window. It’s easy to get to all the places in the Olympic National Park from here.

Wonderful retreat
I had out of state guests here on an annual get together and everyone loved this place. It was so fun to explore the property, sit by the river, sit around the fire pit telling stories and enjoying everything this well stocked home had to offer. It was a great little retreat for us and it really helped to bring home the PNW life!

Comfortable and clean
Everything was good with our stay and host was responsive. The bed and living room is great and kitchen accommodating. There is a large bathtub as well. Unfortunately the fishing poles that led me to book weren't there which the manager said was due to a salmon issue in the area. Highway noise limits the privacy feel and service/wifi speed limited. Otherwise it was among the better rentals to stay in.

100% satisfied!
This place is exceptional! We were impressed with the ease of access, the cleanliness of the entire property, the helpful and well-organized binder, the comfort of the beds and couch and the nice decor/updated kitchen. The kitchen is very well stocked. We thoroughly enjoyed the firepit and the trails to the river and beyond. We would recommend this property to anyone staying in the Port Angelis area. Thank you for a memorable stay! Judy E.

Short family visit to Olympic Mountains
The home was easy to access. Once inside exceptionally clean, good AC, well stocked kitchen, spacious bathrooms, very comfortable beds. The trails on property so great for morning hikes. Evening relaxing by the river was the BEST. A wonderful property, would definitely return.

Great Stay
My family just had a delightful stay!! It was very clean with lots of amenities included. The nature trail and chairs by the river were great; the house was clean and well maintained; the fire pit was lovely at night; and the drive was about 1 hour to Ruby Beach or the Hoh Rainforest (we visited both in one day then had a relaxing evening at the property). Checkout was super easy - start the dishwasher and head out!! Thank you to the owner for a great place in a relatively obscure location!!

The house was clean and comfortable. It was secluded with a couple trails. One went to the river with a small swimming area. If we ever go back to the Olympic area this is where we would stay. Loved It.

Fantastic!!
Spacious and comfortable home. Very good location- relatively close (30 min) to Forks, Rialto Beach, and Crescent Lake. 1 hour to Hoh Rainforest, 45 min to other beaches. There’s a lot of driving at ONP, and this location was really ideal for what we wanted to do. Wi-Fi was excellent, which was important for planning the next days’ activities. Would stay here again, no question!

Clean, Comfortable and Beautiful!
Perfect central location for seeing the northern sections of the park! Roughly an hour from HOH rainforest, an hour from Hurricane Ridge, and @40 minutes to the beach east of Forks. Spent 4 nights here, and everything was stellar. No problems, has everything you need in the kitchen for making meals, very comfy King beds. Property, trails and river access are all excellent. Absolutely no complaints, and we would definitely stay here again! I will note a couple caveats for full disclosure: Our friends had the idea that, based on the photos, there were bikes on site to ride. There are not. I had not expected bikes (I booked the place), as the description does not mention any, but they had that impression via a cursory glance at the images and captions. Also, this is right by 101, which is busy and you can hear the hiss and hum of steady road noise throughout the day. I mention this only for those who might be looking for more pristine silence — it was not bothersome to any of our party, but it is noticeable. All in all, outstanding!

Beautiful Property
Stayed here with my partner and family for four nights. The property is incredibly well-maintained and Chris and Wendy were easy to contact and very helpful (and friendly!). Beds are comfortable to the point that we asked Wendy to send us the brand names of the mattresses. The location of the property is the biggest plus. River access is a two-minute walk, the nature trail on the property is lovely, and everything is clearly signposted. The old highway and the hiking trails that branch off of it are in walking distance, and Lake Crescent us a short drive. There’s something for everyone here. My father used the fishing rods provided; my partner and I hiked; all of us used the board games in the living room. We absolutely will be back.

House in the woods
This property is in a beautiful location, the home is very comfortable (great beds!), and the feeling of seclusion in the forest added charm. It was difficult to find because the address on the mailbox does not match the property address. Look for the owner's name! (Wendy Gates). A friendly neighbor across the road pointed us in the right direction.

Beautiful home
We stayed with our children, age 6,8 and 10. The property was perfect. We had fun exploring the trails around the property and walking to the river and made s’mores almost every night. It’s a central location and within an hour drive to most Olympic sights- we visited Cresent beach, hoh rain forest, second beach and the hot springs. We purchased a lot of groceries before we came and the house came with everything we needed (pots/ pans/ condiments/ supplies) to cook lunch and dinner everyday. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The best
We stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful. The house was large and very comfortable with all the amenities. An infant pack and play was a nice surprise, which we set up for our 7 month old as a safe area to hang out in. The location was great, we had fun doing the short trail on the property that goes down to the river, and did some fishing (two fishing reels were available to use). The house was very close to the trailhead for the Olympic Discovery Trail, and we were able to easily do a day trip riding our bikes. Would definitely recommend.

I and my partner both stated that we felt very at home ( female and male both responding) in this rental. Beds were firm and spacious. Decor was nice . Land had a stream and small trail. Owner was very available and pleasant/accommodating . Enjoyed our stay very much. Would rent again if we were ever again in this area. Our type of rental.

About the host

Hosted by Wendy Gates

Host profile image
Originally from North Idaho, I have spent the majority of my life knowing that these wild lands we call National Parks offer a once in a lifetime opportunity. They cleanse the senses and reignite the soul. Therefore I am happy to share this unique location with adventurous travelers looking to do just this; to walk through the world treasure of a temperate rain forest, view the peaks of the Olympic Mountains and touch the waters of the Pacific Ocean all in the same day (although you might want to do each, one day at a time).

Why they chose this property

The 4.5 acres that extend to the Sol Duc River and the National Forest that borders the property make it unmatched! Beyond easy river access and the sunny grass fairway like lawn, there are also walking trails within the property and nice loop trails through the forest to the river and back. The house is located near the Olympic Discovery Trail for biking along the river and through the forest. Renting this house out seemed like the ideal setup for people wanting to really experience the Olympic Peninsula and have access to the wonderful activities at the Epic Center of Adventure on The Olympic Peninsula!

What makes this property unique

Located on the Sol Duc River, just 20 miles from the Sol Duc Hot Springs and just west of Lake Crescent, this property is the absolutely perfect location to enjoy being in the forest, on the river and right in the middle of it all. With Hurricane Ridge, Cape Flattery, Pacific Beaches and Hoh rainforest all within an hour's drive, this place is the place to be!
