Laid-back hideout right next door to Doe Bay Resort on Washington's Orcas Island
Nestled in the quiet community of Doe Bay lies a charming craftsman 2bd, 2ba cottage you can effortlessly retreat into. The tasteful updating is done with propane fireplace, new king sized REM bed with adjustable base in the master bedroom, one side of the bed has a softer mattress while the other side is firm-take your pick. All brand new living room furniture, tasteful decorating , cozy dining area with bench seats and surround windows and the spacious master bedroom has vaulted ceilings displaying vintage SE Asian oars. Andrew Gath design of Seattle helped us with the interior, it is warm. comfortable and classic. Enjoy dining or morning coffee on the New large south facing deck with beautiful water views. High speed internet and Rocu Direct TV in both bedrooms. Wake up to a sunrise over the Salish Sea. Your Island home is part of a small close knit "homestead" community-originally a fishing camp at the turn of the century. Their are 3 full time neighbors and 3 ocassional weekenders-thus are home is more of place to go to savor the peace of the Islands. If having a good ole fashioned whoopee party on the deck until midnight is your idea of a vacation (and who doesn't like that occasionally) than this location is probably not for you. Sound carries and this home has neighbors. I have mult bird feeders around the yard and when one gets quite and still, birds of all sorts will fly right up to you, along with our resident Doug Fir squirrels, Island deer and raccoon although we ask that you not feed the deer or raccoons. River Otters frequently swim by the house!

We had a lovely stay in Doe Bay. Rob was a fantastic host, communicated diligently, and ensured that we had everything we needed. Orca's has some incredible restaurants, hiking, kayaking, and views. It's an easy place to get around and it was an ideal time of year to visit.
The location is fairly remote, which was exactly what we wanted. Night bring many deer onto the road so it was necessary to go slow and be very cautious driving to and from the house.
I cannot say enough about Orcas Island, this home, and the owners/hosts. Wonderful all the way around. While the property is a bit out of town, it is not that far and is in a lovely spot. Great views. The amenities are nice, with great beds and bathrooms, a wonderful deck to relax on, and a well supplied kitchen. Also, there is a beautiful garden to enjoy. The hosts are generous and very easy to work with. If you are going to Orcas, this is the place to stay.
Wonderful place to stay and explore the Island!
Stayed with son and his family. We lived on the deck, from coffee in the morning to wine and dinner in the evenings. Host was very accommodating! House was very clean and so very comfortable! We didn’t want to leave! Thank you Rob and Kim!
Our family of 4 stayed three nights, and wished we could have stayed longer- the house was beautiful and had everything we needed (including family games and comfy beds!), and we loved the deck with water views and heat lamps for at night.
Beautiful house in idyllic spot. Hosts were wonderfully friendly and proactive in communication, made sure we had everything we needed. Beds very comfortable, house immaculate. Great outdoor deck with grill, comfy chairs and heaters. Will definitely be back next summer
Located adjacent to Doe Bay Resort on the far side of Orcas Island with peekaboo water views (no direct access). Good sized house with amenities including large heated deck, laundry, wifi and streaming, full-size fridge and freezer, and fireplace. Owners live on their boat and offer trips as an add-on via text msg. They addressed a surprise maintenance issue quickly. Detailed checkout requirements make the value for money and 10am checkout a little tricky, but a nice spot overall. Our family of four had a pleasant stay.
Rob and Kim's place was the ideal location to celebrate my 50th birthday. My family joined me for the first couple nights, and our teens were entertained with the games and TV options. There is a kayaking outfit (Shearwater) that runs a tour out of Doe Bay resort - highly recommend and so convenient! Hiking, lakes, and shops/restaurtants are within a 20-30 minute drive. After my family left, I enjoyed days of long days of hiking book-ended by lazy mornings in bed with a cup of coffee and evenings on the deck with a glass of wine while taking in the amazing view. The cabin has everything you need to be comfortable, including a well stocked kitchen and lots of extra towels and blankets. Hosts are responsive and very helpful. If you have time for a massage/bodywork while in town, Iona at the Healing Arts Center is a miracle-worker!
The location is perfect (my daughter and I experienced a beautiful humpback right at the bottom of the hill), it is secluded without being too far from town and the views are breathtaking, day and night!
I can’t say enough good things about Rob and Kim either, they are amazing hosts! We had a pretty rough trip coming in and they were more than accommodating through it all.
You will not be disappointed in your stay in this precious little home, I can promise you!

This is a lovely home with a beautiful view. The owner was easy to reach and helpful. The outside lounge area is fabulous and heated/covered so can use anytime. It is very peaceful on this side of the island but a bit farther from town if you want easy access to restaurants and groceries. We had a very relaxing getaway.
We stayed here 4 nights. I wish we had longer! The house has everything you need. The beds and furnishings are comfortable, nice kitchen with everything you need, surrounded by trees, birds, flowers, and the beautiful Doe Bay! We started and ended each day on the lovely patio - a definite happy place! Thank you Rob and Kim.
Our family loved this private, quiet escape with a smashing view! Beds were incredibly comfortable. Porch facing the water is a perfect lounge with heaters & comfy couches. We enjiyed just watching the water each day.
Rob and Kim were great hosts and shared their beautiful home in Doe Bay with our family. It was the perfect location for us to gather as we spent time with local family and enjoyed the wonders of Orcas island. The views and gardens are wonderful at this happy place.
If you are looking for peace and quiet in an incredibly beautiful setting, this is the place. Nothing could be more relaxing than sitting on the deck and watching the view. The hosts were extremely kind and helpful.
Wonderful hideaway in Doe Bay. Property was comfortable and very quiet. View off of the front deck is spectacular. Owners were very friendly and helpful.
Rob and Kim are excellent hosts - they communicated clearly and effectively about everything related to the house and were helpful resources recommending local restaurants and spots of interest. The house is in terrific condition and probably best suited for small parties of 2-5. The kitchen is well outfitted with everything you will need to cook and clean. The location is remote and quiet - maybe a 30m drive from the main town with restaurants and shops, but only 10-15m from the state park and Buck Bay shellfish farm for delicious fresh seafood. The photos of the listing simply don’t do the house justice - the views are terrific and it feels fairly private. Highly recommend! We would absolutely stay at this place again.
Was a wonderful place to stay. Quiet, serene and calm surroundings. We had a wonderful stay with easy access to hiking, dining, and touring. Definitely would go back
We rented this perfect little treasure for two weeks and it was exactly what we needed and were hoping for. The house is perfectly arranged for a little family or two couples. The master bedroom is huge, the back bedroom is adorable, and both bathrooms are great. The beds are very comfortable and linens are top notch. The kitchen is also awesome and fully stocked - making pancakes for breakfast and seafood pasta for dinner while looking at the water was a dream. We also ate just about every meal, played games, read, and all the things on the huge new wrap around deck with an awesome view. Rob and Kim were also wonderful to work with. We will definitely be back!
Nice roomy property. For a family of 6 overlooking scenic Doe Bay. Fairly priced. 35-40 minutes from ferry. 20 minutes from Eastsound.

About the host
Hosted by Kim and Robert
Kim is a K-1 teacher and Rob is an RN, we both love adventure, traveling the world, great food, gardening, mountains and the ocean. We have lived in Australia teaching and nursing, biked across Cambodia into Vietnam and hiked the jungles of Costa Rica and Mexico. Buying a boat and traveling the Inside passage to Alaska is on our bucket list along with more trips around the world on our bikes.
Why they chose this property
It's always been our dream to own a home in the San Juan Islands, or goal is to retire some day on Orcas. This little cottage has history, was built in the mid 40's, has a Native American burial ground on the neighboring Doe Bay resort grounds. Were right next door to Doe Bay resort and Spa and Otter Bay where we wheel our kayaks down a path to the private beach, or to walk over the cafe for a fresh made pastry and cup of coffee, they also sell my new favorite Kambucha!
What makes this property unique
View View View The front of our home is lined with BIG windows show casing the Salish Sea, neighboring Islands, Ferry traffic, Rosario Straight and the never ending wildlife. Orcas Is is listed as one of the 100 places to see before you die book. Orcas swim right next to the rocks right in front of the house!!! and a family of River Otter live near by. Moran St Park hiking and Mt Biking is a 1/2 mile walk from our home. We love being next door to Doe Bay resort with their little grocery store, restaurant, Spa and music in the summer months. You can launch your kayaks, canoes, paddle boards from a private beach that is accessed via a 5 min walk from the house. Kayak rentals is 15 min from our home. Whale watching tours leave daily from Orcas Island, and the Orcas have been seen right in front of our home on many occasions as are the resident river otters and the occasional Grey whale. This home is so cozy, the contractors spared no expense and are gifted in detailing wood trim, butcher block counter tops, lighting, rugged dark wood plank flooring and the beach vibe shiplap ceilings. The cathedral ceilings in the master bedroom are the perfect backdrop to our SouthEast Asian antique oar collection. Walking into this home has a very calming affect that exudes warmth. My bird feeders are always full and attract local and migratory birds of all sizes. I have quality binoculars and a spotting scope on tripod to bring all creatures in close, along with laminated ID cards that describes what your looking at.
