Hillside cabins

Me and my spent the weekend in cabin 2. Overall good experience as no one else was there. Not quite as secluded as I would prefer. Cabins are too close together and at the edge of town

Perfect Peaceful Getaway

My husband and I came here with the hopes of escaping and just enjoying a peaceful weekend. The cabin is perfect for what we needed. Cozy and comfy and just what we needed. Yes the couch is broken, LOL. But if a broken couch is going to ruin your vacay maybe this isn’t the place for you. Just saying that just added to the character and provided some laughter.

Cabin in the woods

While cabin itself was nice and clean, the amenities were not up to par...Wi-Fi and Satellite tv did not work...couch middle cushion was broken as was window shades in front of cabin...being a outdoor person myself it didnt bother me but severely bothered my wife! Honestly not worth over $200 a night to me and especially her!

Great stay!

This cabin was perfect for our family. The only issue with this cabin was a broken couch (center seat only) but that does not ruin a trip for us. There were two queen beds, one on the main floor and one in the loft. There is also an air mattress in the cabin which was really nice. The cabin was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, utensils, cooking tools, coffee, etc. The back deck was lovely to hang out on and had plenty of seating for everyone. Check in and check out was super easy. The location was perfect if you're wanting to float the Black River, you're also very close to Taum Sauk and Johnson's Shut-Ins. We would definitely stay here again.

Very Nice Cabin

Things we liked: Out of the way but still able to access necessities. Clean, Quiet, Just what we were looking for. Just a couple of snags: There are 4 cabins around the drive the only way I knew which cabin it was I looked at the picture. The cabin could have been cleaner the vents in the heating/ ac unit were covered in dust. The bed was broken down in the middle and the biggest couch had an arm that was broken. It was just my husband and myself so we just used the other end and the loveseat. Overall, we would stay again.

The cabin was lovely. The location was convenient. When we got there, it hadn’t been cleaned from the last guest. I thought it would take forever to get it right but I couldn’t have been more mistaken. I got an email almost immediately and a very apologetic young lady was at the cabin within minutes. I understand things like this and am incredibly appreciative that it was fix so quickly. I will definitely be back and will use this company again.

Could have been a bit better

When we got there, the road was treacherous. The beginning of the drive way was harsh on the tires and going up to the cabin was problematic and was not easily accessible. The cabins were soooo close together and it was pitch black in the dark. We had to use our phone lights to get into the cabin. There were dirty dishes in the cabin, put away. The bed was really uncomfortable and there was a broken window, the tv cord was stripped, tv has scratches and not even sure if it worked because we did not find a remote.

Matt S., Lived in St. Louis most of my life

just what I wanted

My trip to the Arcadia Mo was to spend three days, two nights, revisiting and exploring the area. I left St. Louis at 10 and arrived at Johnson Shut-ins by noon. I spent 3 hours enjoying the cool waters in the special typography of the Shut-Ins. Then I drove down to Annapolis to VRBO #1293676. This is just what I wanted. A small cabin, in the woods but within a short distance to a small town, quiet and new and comfortable. It was great for one person and would be for a couple or a small family with one or two young children. The inside of the cabin was very well done. It was clean and comfortable. The Wi-Fi, internet and TV, worked very well and had all the appliances needed. Justin was a wonderful host. I look forward to returning and experiencing the change and growth of his cabins. This is a great home base to explore Arcadia Valley. There are many beautiful, and unique, places to spend a morning, an afternoon or early evening. Annapolis is 20 miles north of Clearwater Lake and four miles away from the Black River and campgrounds. 20 miles south of Ironton area, and three very unique Missouri State Parks: Johnson Shut-Ins, Elephant Rocks, Taum Suak Mountain and The Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site. The area is beautiful, unique, inexpensive and puts you in the midst of some of the best natural gems of the Mid-West.

I love the location. The cabin was very nice.

Quiet location not far from the convenience stores. Very clean and friendly. Hidden away from the road so its a tiny bit hard to find in the dark, but also very cozy and private with all the surrounding woods. I will stay again anytime. The couch needs to be replaced though. Apparently it has had a hard life and is falling apart. The back deck is the place to be.

Beautiful and cozy, great location

My husband and I wanted to visit Johnson Shut Ins, Taum Sauk State Park and Elephant Rocks over a weekend. This cabin is perfectly located within 30 minutes of all 3 parks. Cabin was immaculate, all necessities provided. Very comfy for an overnight stay. It is located just off of a main road in Annapolis but yet secluded for peace and quiet. A centralized laundry room is currently under construction. Friendly owner. Would definitely stay again.

Mostly great

We really enjoyed our stay. However, a few sets of blinds had multiple slats either broken or missing so it was possible for those outside to see in even if we attempted to close them. There was also a hole in one window that looked like it had been patched but really needed to be replaced. Still, we'll likely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Great Time

This was a great place to stay - neat, super clean, well stocked with all we needed and just what we expected. In response to other reviews, we saw absolutely no sign of mice. The only glitch was no answer to our email about check in, so we were a little nervous about arrival. There was a phone number on a sign when we got there and we left a message and were called back within minutes with check in info and key code. Everything was great after that.

Just what we needed

This was a great place to stay with our teenage son and dog. It was close to hiking and exploring in multiple parks like Johnson’s Shutins and Taum Sak. Had all the amenities we needed. The fire pit and chairs was perfect for relaxing after a long day.

Nice cabin - Mice not so nice

Overall my wife and I had a nice time. It was quiet and relaxing. We would rent again. The checkin process could have been better if the owner would have responded to the messages I sent before the day of the checkin. Was not sure of the procedure. We did get the key code in time but didn’t know until we got to the property that there were multiple cabins. The second cabin we tried was the correct one. The listing could have been clearer by stating it was Cabin #2. In a previous review someone stated there was a mouse problem. I brought traps just in case it was still a problem. Glad I did, trapped one every night I was there (5) but one.

Rough in some ways, Nice in other ways

Location is great. Read to end to find mice and snake story. Went to see Elephant Rock, Johnston Shut-ins, Sam A. Baker state park. Lovely time. The check in was knee-jerky because we were not given front door code before check in. No cell service at location so we had to drive out to call the owner. Checked in fine after that. Many things were broken in the house: sofa armrest, blinds, bathroom door would never shut completely. There were plenty of towels and cooking supplies (definitely needed since there is nowhere to eat nearby. we took a cooler of groceries and cooked in) Great view out back and plenty of space for two (I wouldn't want any more than that). Anywho the floors were not clean. Insanely gross under sofas. Plates and cookware all had to be washed before using. We heard a BUNCH of mice in the night and saw three different ones. Makes it really hard to rest peacefully when you hear all the mice running around in the house. I can't help but think of how this could be solved by cleaning the house well. The mice clearly come out to eat travelers crumbs and left out food. We had them chew through several of our bags of food we brought. It would have been nice if the owner had warned us so we could have brought plastic tubs to protect our food. There were sticky paper traps in the closet. Yes this might work but clearly wasn't catching enough. I think the mice figured out the paper and steer clear of it. Oh idea - if you know they are coming in from the hot water closet, maybe spend some energy cleaning that up or sealing that up so they can't get in instead of just putting sticky paper out. Anyways since there was no mouse hotel trap that uses bait to lure in mice, they didnt go on the sticky paper. We did find a TIMBER RATTLE SNAKE trapped on the sticky paper the third morning - which means it was loose in our house before. Talk about a big deal. My wife is pregnant and that could have killed our unborn child if she was bitten. Where there is a mouse problem, there is a snake problem. It is not like the owner didn't know about it since there was some effort to catch the mice. We were not informed about the infestation ahead of the trip. The way the houses are set up, I wouldn't be surprised if each house has a big mouse nest underneath the covered stilts the houses sit on. I messaged the owner about it during our stay twice and he finally messaged me back about a week after our stay. Be careful!
