About this property

The apartment is located on the Eastend of St. John, the quiet and least populated (if you are not counting donkeys, deer and goats) side of the island. The eastend has a simple elegant style where the beat is slower, the roads less traveled and the vibe is less forced. The east end is dryer but dramatic and beautiful. The property has beautiful views, great sun- and moonrises with nature and the soothing presence of water all around. It is only a few minutes away from several east end beaches with great snorkeling and exploring. It has a breeze on most days and it is one of the least buggy places on the island. In the winter months it can get quite windy. It is away from the crowd but only 15 minutes to the restaurants and shops in Coral Bay. The downstairs apartment provides simple island comfort with tall white walls, slate floors, ceiling fans, big mahogany doors and a spectacular view. When the main wooden sliding door is open it becomes an indoor/outdoor living space. Even though we are still working on our landscaping and the outside of our house, the rental apartment has been complete for many years and often hosts friends and family. Family with 2 children, a dog and a cat live upstairs. They love their privacy and they will give you privacy as well.

Best views!

We had a wonderful time at Windy Way. Very quiet- no traffic, people, etc. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Constant breeze was welcome especially at night. If you like seeing the night sky, you will be wowed by the stars, Milky Way, planets, etc.

This was....disappointing...

When I first saw "Windy Way" as the title and the lovely photos, I was convinced this was going to be a great place to stay. Unfortunately it was anything but, the bedroom was tucked in the center which limited the "Windy Way" airflow, making it hot and stagnant at night. In the room there was an a/c unit that didn't work, and a floor fan that also did not work (there was definitely power to the outlets tested).The bed itself was harder than cardboard, which meant any discomfort you previously had was exacerbated. We tried to sleep on the futon but that wasn't any better and it was still so hot. The fact that we couldn't sleep the 2 nights (we booked for 9 nights) should mean something. As this was our wedding ceremony/honeymoon we kindly let the owner know that we could not stay at the location, and while I kept my optimism for the beginning part of the trip, that was lost when I tried to negotiate a refund. Out of the 9 nights, we could uncomfortable stay for only 2 of those nights, and the owner saw fit to only refund 4 nights at 50%, which told me enough about the location and how it is run. I honestly cannot recommend this place, between the heat, the broken appliances, the uncomfortable bed, and the almost insulting refund attempt, I think I've had my fill of the East End of St John

Great spot away from it all

The pics show exactly what you get. A nice, private apartment at the quiet end of the quiet island. The breeze kept the place nice and cool, even in the hottest part of the day. The view is even better than the pic shows. Snorkling gear and beach chairs were provided and very, very useful. The roads are very good heading up to the place, but it is steep with some tight curves (like the rest of the island). There are a couple of water runoffs that you have to drive across, so a vehicle with some ground clearance is preferable, although not strictly necessary, if you are careful. Ingrid and her family are great hosts and were super helpful when we had questions. Keeper (the pup in the pics) and Avatar (the unpictured cat) are both sweet. All in all, we highly recommend this rental for a couple wanting a quiet, private place on the island.

Windy with a fabulous view

Windy Way is on the far eastern side of the island reached by driving over twisty switchback roads. The view is amazing and the space looks just like the pictures. Ingrid and her husband checked in and quickly responded to any questions. Windy Way is a very accurate namesake- the wind is strong and can get loud. The only change I would love to see is the addition of more comfortable furniture. There is a futon and folding wooden chairs, and a comfy bed. It is a 5 minute drive to a private beach that for a small donation provides chairs and shade. It is about a 10 -15 minute drive to Coral Bay where you can enjoy a nice outdoor bar with food.

Pretty wonderful!

Other reviewers have provided details about this property that are accurate. The bed was very comfortable, nice and firm but perfectly so! Amazing views & breezes, and the ceiling fans in every room kept us comfortable. The access to two private beaches was a surprise wonderful bonus! Ingrid and Keeper were great hosts! The drive to get here is a bit long but it was so worth it.

Best Place On The Island

The owners of this spot are truly invested in their guests having an amazing stay. When we texted for directions, she called. When we showed up, she came out in person to give us a tour. When we asked about beaches, she gave us beach chairs and offered fins and masks. And if you want an amazing view and a secluded feel, prepare to feel like you’re the last person on earth, because this location is on the top of a gorgeous hill on the edge of this island. Can’t say enough about the owners and the location. Booking this again would be a no-brainer.

Quiet, beautiful with spectacular Views!

This property is beautiful!!! The home is located on the peaceful, quiet East End, perched high above with the most breathtaking ocean view all around! We were away from the crowds – and it truly felt like Paradise! We enjoyed the amazing sunrises every day! The apartment was clean and exactly as described. We had everything we could need, including beach chairs, towels, cooler, etc! That was very helpful for our daily excursions to all the beautiful beaches! There is no A/C but we had nice breezes throughout the apartment -never had an issue and there were no bugs! Coral Bay is a short drive away with a grocery store, restaurants, etc. Several beaches close by. We rented a jeep and enjoyed the scenic drive to explore the entire island and all the gorgeous beaches! Very easy to get around! Ingrid and Eric were wonderful, welcoming hosts. Ingrid was very helpful even before we arrived! During our stay she was always available and quick to respond to messages and always made sure we had everything we needed, while still allowing for privacy. We definitely plan to return! A little haven with spectacular view!

I loved this apartment! The view was amazing!! The property is located way out on the east side of the island. So if you are looking for the convenience/close proximity of restaurants/stores/gas stations/powdery white sand beaches this may not be the place for you as it is a bit of a drive (on St.John's infamous winding, hilly roads) to these places. But if you are looking for peace and quiet, for tranquility, for a feeling like you are only one of just a handful of people on an island then you MUST stay at this place! The cooling winds were a welcome respite from the heat and humidity of the island. The apartment was immaculately clean, brilliantly designed and had absolutely EVERYTHING I could have needed for a comfortable one week stay. Truly, they thought of everything when furnishing and equipping this place. I was so grateful to see some fresh picked flowers and a few (very timely) snacks upon arrival after a long journey. I even learned to adopt some important habits in water conservation while here that I hope to continue in my quest to be a more responsible global citizen. Ingrid was incredibly helpful and generous with her time to make sure that I had everything I needed, including pre-arrival information and assistance in securing a rental car. She was readily available and quick to respond to messages while still giving me plenty of privacy. This place truly felt like a haven for me; I place I could completely recharge. I absolutely would not hesitate to stay there again!

Quiet, beautiful, very accommodating

This is our first experience with VRBO (or even anything like it) and the home owners made it a great experience. Thank you for your hospitality! After spending the best part of a week checking out several bays, hiking trails and going on a boat excursion to BVI, from what I can see they have the best location for views! Ingrid was very helpful with directions, things to do and answering any questions we had. We best communicated through text. Would highly recommend this location!!

Vacation in paradise

My husband and I had the most wonderful vacation. The apartment was fantastic and the view outstanding. The East end of the island is very peaceful. The beach was minutes away where we snorkeled with the turtles daily. Our hosts Ingrid and Eric were very welcoming and were freely available for any questions we had about the island. Away from it all with a glorious view

I loved this place. It’s up high with a gorgeous panoramic view of the sea and sailboats, islands and clouds. An up-and-down road takes you there, and all along the way, you see amazing views of water and hills, Coral Bay and the BVI. At the base of the hill the apartment sits upon are three pretty beaches, about a 10-minute walk away. The apartment itself is comfortable and spacious, and Ingrid and Eric are warm and friendly hosts who make sure you have everything you need. There was an unusually high wind when we were there, and the living room got noisy, but the bedroom was quiet and cozy enough to sleep well. The bed was big and comfortable. You feel a part of the sea and the sky and the mountains here. I’d like to stay again.

Trip to St. John, USIV

This was the first time to book a HomeAway property. Wasn't sure what to expect. Everything at this property was outstanding. The view was magnificent. The hosts were very gracious and the area was private. The apartment was very clean and had all the amenities as described in the listing. This place felt almost like home. My husband, a born Virgin Islander, and I have been married for 12 years with 2 daughters. We have a spanish water dog and a cat that are part of our family. I am originally german but lived in NYC when I met my husband. I have always loved the ocean and after meeting my husband it was not a hard decision to move here. Our doors are always open so it is indoor/outdoor living year around. Even though we are still working on our landscaping and finishing aspects of our house, the downstairs apartment has been complete for many years and often hosts friends and family.

Why they chose this property

Out here we are being surrounded by nature and the constant soothing presence of the ocean. The Eastend of ST. John is dryer but dramatic and beautiful. The view is amazing, we never get tired of it, no matter what the weather is like. And we have lot's of privacy.
