About this property

Creekside Country Comfort, Northampton Access! Lovely apartment sleeps 8

Spacious, very large open floor plan 2-bedroom apartment in beautiful rural town sleeps eight. It is the front half of my two-family home---great for gatherings, with a fully equipped kitchen and an open dining/living area. Recently renovated and immaculate, the house was a historic mill by the creek, in friendly Westhampton. An easy 12- minute drive on pretty Rt. 66 to all that vibrant downtown Northampton has to offer, and even closer to up-and-coming arts and culture town of Easthampton. Just up the road is a wonderful eatery and store featuring produce/food/grocery/bakery, Outlook Farm. Peaceful and pretty setting---woods and creek on one side, (overlooked by the enclosed porch with bistro set for relaxing, and a gas grill for outdoor cooking), my horses grazing on the other side of the property, nothing but woods behind. It is not a bumpy remote country road, though, and we do have friendly neighbors across the street! Very close to our town center (not exactly bustling--- we have a GREAT library which features musical, arts and social and cultural events. That's pretty much it, along with the many hiking trails.) Bright, comfortable, and all yours for privacy--the space is dedicated for guests only. The large bedroom has a comfy queen bed, and a twin-size sleep sofa for reading and relaxation, or an additional sleeper. The other bedroom has a queen bed and a twin. LOTS of closet space. The queen sleeper sofa in the living room is super-comfortable. The enclosed porch overlooks the stream, with bistro furniture for relaxing and snacking. Washer and dryer are in the huge bathroom, which features a deep soaking tub and separate shower.. Large Flat-screen TV in living room with Chromecast streaming, wifi, Bluray player, and a beautiful electric fireplace for ambience (and also extra heat if you like.) Outside, colorful flower gardens, with a granite bench to sit on with a glass of wine, to enjoy the sound of the stream. (Nearby equestrian facilities if you'd like your equine companion to accompany your vacation!) Plenty of off-street parking close to your front door, and only one shallow interior step to main living space.---everything is on one level. I live in the back half of the house, with my pup, two kitties, and the horses on the back acreage. I am happy to leave you to enjoy your privacy, or help you with information about the area---I really enjoy meeting new people! Local outdoor activities include Norwich Lake, the Westfield and Mill Rivers, Chesterfield Gorge, the Northampton Dog Park, and many other woodland trails. My rates are flexible---message me for possible "couples discount" or "last-minute" rates. Dogs welcome, (but let's chat first, please!) The perfect Northampton area getaway---not in the city downtown, but not way up in the remote hills, either. I promise you will love it here! Minimum winter stay is 6 months.

great place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely house. We were very comfortable and found the rooms to be bright, clean, and warm. We were not able to use the outside porch because the weather was a bit too chilly during our stay. However, I can imagine that sitting there on a summer's day and listening to the babbling brook would be awesome. There's a great orchard store located quite close by, which was very nice. The entire surrounding area is lovely, peaceful and bucolic. We will definitely stay again the next time we return to the area.

Wish we had more time to enjoy the view

We visited Ellen’s property during Smith College’s family weekend so we primarily used the house for sleeping. But in the morning, I went out to the side porch room and marveled at the stunning scene of autumn colors and a lovely stream. Would have loved to sit there and enjoy, but had no time. Maybe next time.

Enjoyed our stay at Ellen's house in Westhampton.

We enjoyed our one month stay in Westhampton! The apartment in Ellen's home is spacious and well equipped. We especially liked the screened in porth that overlooks a nearby creek. We loved walking to the small town center and exploring the local area. It is an easy 15 minute drive to Northampton. The front garden is lovely with many beautiful blooms! And nice to see the horses out back. Finally, we very much appreciated having our dog with us during our stay. Ellen was very amenable to responding to our needs, and available quickly via email/text. Our only concerns were that the bed in the master bed room was quite soft. There are firmer beds in the smaller bed room, though that room has less natural light. It took a while for the clothes dryer to dry the wash, Ellen is aware and working to fix this. We definitely recommend a stay at Ellen's home.

A charming New England country retreat

Very quiet and beautiful location. The place was very comfortable and spacious. Truly was a home away from home. Ellen was a great host and made our stay very enjoyable.

Peaceful property

Comfortable property in peaceful countryside. We were able to discover a lot of New England from here and even a trip to New York by train. So much to see and do. Outlook farm up road is wonderful for breakfast.

spacious but a little dated

The owner is very nice and helpful and the accommodations are spacious, but the place is somewhat dark and dated. There is a nice view of a stream from the 3-season porch.

Well maintained and furnished apartment. Very spacious.

Ellen was a lovely host. She was willing to provide anything we needed. The apartment was very clean. Easy parking. We were a family of 5 traveling with an infant and toddler. Ellen let us rearrange some items so that it worked for us. I would not hesitate to recommend this host.

Second stay - feels like a home away from home.

Even after seeing the photos, we were surprised by how bright, beautiful and spacious the apartment was. Put the pull-out beds to use as well - all slept comfortably. Only a short drive to our Look Park reunion gathering and the concert afterwards in downtown Northampton. Ellen was great. Westhampton is a quiet, peaceful place, but close to everywhere to eat and have fun. Pretty brook was a bonus!

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in the Pioneer Valley, and returned here to make Westhampton my permanent home after many years living in the Bay Area and Sierra Mountains of California. Western Massachusetts offers the wonderful combination of beautiful countryside and accessible culture, and the proximity to my family. I was an art potter for over 20 years, and now own a realty business in Northampton. (I know houses!) I love my creekside Westhampton home, where I care for my American Eskimo pup Sugarplum, my two kitties, and my two older horses. (One jet black, one pure white---they are gorgeous, gentle guys.) I enjoy meeting people from all over, and welcome you to enjoy the part of my home that I have dedicated to the comfort of guests and travelers.

Why they chose this property

I've always loved living near running water---I don't think I could live on "dry land" after enjoying the lovely sound (and occasional dips on hot days) of our creek! Acreage for my horses, and the charm of a historic building, all combined to make this place my home. Westhampton is a wonderfully friendly town, with lots of hiking trails. Folks here tend to love the outdoors, animals, nature, and also the nearby delights of a short drive to Northampton!

What makes this property unique

Easy access to Northampton, a 12-minute drive straight down one road right to downtown, but a quiet and pretty setting by a beautiful creek! Dog-friendly, with walking trails nearby. Single level living, with no stairs, makes it easy to bring in your luggage from your exclusive off-street parking, right near your front door. Ample room for a party of up to 7 guests. I may offer a discount for couples, or have special seasonal rates---ask me! Enjoy the front gardens, with a granite bench overlooking the creek, where you can relax with a glass of wine.
