Front row center for Humpback whales (Dec-April) - from the lanai or from our kayaks ! Enjoy our beautiful, tastefully decorated Oceanfront 3 bedroom home (BBKM 2019/0003), accommodating up to 6 adults and 2 additional children. Kihei is the sunniest part of Maui and you'll enjoy magnificent ocean views, swimming in either the ocean or our pool, paddle boarding, kayaking or fishing right off our property or just relaxing in the hammock under the palm trees.
Hale Laule'a is a beautiful single story home, with lush landscaping and an open floor plan which enjoys natural cooling trade winds and seamless indoor/outdoor living, situated only 25 feet from the ocean and 200 ft in from Halama Street. The Kitchen, dining area, kitchen and master bedroom directly face the ocean with floor to ceiling tinted glass plus sun shades. Outside on the ocean facing lanai you can enjoy outdoor ocean front dining using our built in Twin Eagles propane grill and the small refreshments fridge as well as meals at the large outdoor table watching the sun setting every night at dinner. You won't find a better view!
A central air system and split system air conditioning in all the bedrooms, powered by solar roof panels, keeps the house cool even on the hottest days. The kitchen is large, has been beautifully remodeled with handmade mango wood cabinets, a large Subzero Fridge, a Wolf 4 burner gas stove, a Wolf convection microwave and a Bosch Super-Quiet Dishwasher.
The lovely swimming pool sits behind the living room, protected from afternoon trade winds and is connected to an in-ground iridescent glass-tiled jacuzzi. The Living Room has direct ocean views, a 46' Samsung Flat-screen tv, plus hi speed Wi-Fi and access to Netflicks or Amazon Prime. The pool side entertainment room boasts an 80 inch sharp aquos Flat-screen tv and a Leather 3 person recliner & ottoman.
2 walls of the Master bedroom are floor to ceiling, ocean-facing windows, making you feel as though you're almost on the water. The master bathroom has dual Kohler sinks with high end fixtures, an indoor custom glassed in rain shower as well as a large, private outdoor hot and cold water shower. Each of the other two bedrooms enjoy their own en-suite bathrooms with indoor shower in one and a bathtub/shower in the other.
In addition, you can rinse off from the ocean in our outdoor private garden hot & cold water shower and use an additional bathroom near the pool for those who might be wet or sandy.
Our Halama Street location is incredibly private, but also central and within easy walking distance to restaurants, public tennis courts, surfing lessons, beautiful public beaches and snorkeling spots, basketball courts, movie theaters, a farmers' market and supermarkets. Within a few minutes' drive you can also find numerous golf courses, scenic hikes, shopping and world-class kite and wind surfing areas. The resort area of Wailea is only 10 minutes drive and the spectacular Maui Ocean Center is about 20. We are 20-25 minutes drive from the airport and have ample parking inside our gated driveway. No parking is allowed on the street outside our house.
Ours is a tranquil, private and incredibly gorgeous setting. It is also a residential neighborhood so, while the location may seem ideal for weddings and/or big gatherings, these will not be allowed.
We also provide beach umbrellas, chairs, coolers and boogie boards for your beach outings and are happy to help make your vacation outstanding in any way we can.

Absolutely incredible home
This is the first rental where our expectations were exceeded on every level. The pictures do not do the house justice. The view and location are stunning. And we have never had such gracious and helpful hosts. From initial communication after booking to service above and beyond while we were there, Katherine and Dean helped make this one of our best ever vacations. Five stars on every level, don't waste your money on the Wailea resorts when this gem is available. Thank you and can't wait to return.

A truly magical vacation
It’s hard to describe how magical this place is…we stayed at Dean and Katherine’s beautiful home with 4 friends to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and could not imagine a better experience. Between the gorgeous sunsets, the nightly turtle visits and the amazing gardens, it was truly a slice of heaven. The fresh lemons and bananas from the garden were delicious and of course the wonderful aroma from the night blooming jasmine reminded us every evening how special Maui is! We felt like we were in a tropical garden, yet shopping and restaurants were very close by. The home is spotless and well equipped and the beds very comfortable. The pool and spa were used constantly and it was great that they were protected from the afternoon winds. Dean and Katherine are perfect hosts and were very accommodating to any request…so glad we got to meet them. I highly recommend this beautiful property…you’ll love it! Thank you Dean and Katherine for your hospitality and sharing your amazing home…we can’t wait to return!

Amazing Property!!!
Our family of 6 travels every year to somewhere new. That may change after staying in this home in Maui - it was unlike any place we have ever stayed. The views are breathtaking. The pool is protected from any winds and is its own little private oasis. The home is spotless and Katherine & Dean are THE BEST hosts. Easy to walk to shops, restaurants , and the grocery store. We will be back!

Katherine and Dean's home on the beach in Maui is as private as it gets. No matter what your definition of heaven is, I am pretty sure this will exceed your expectations. From the beautiful and peaceful sunrise to sunset filled with resident turtles swimming ashore to stay the night, it's quiet and full of potential activities (SUPs, Kayak, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc). My family ranging in age from 19 - 70 yrs stayed and enjoyed watching the whales from both the patio and dining table while working a puzzle together and playing cards. The house is walking distance to starbucks, foodland and many great shops as well as a park and the Maui Sweet Shoppe. The pool and jacuzzi are smartly positioned in the interior courtyard to take advantage of in the afternoon and out of the wind. We played beach volleyball at one of the local sand courts and drove just 20 minutes to some of the best surf on the island (near Paia). Whatever your version of heaven is, this is it and Katherine and Dean are the angels... with quick responses and helpful hints to everything and anything that we needed. If you have a chance to stay here, don't let it pass you by. Book now. Life is short. Wendy 03/21/22

Beautiful and Peaceful
Dean and Katherine how can we thank you for our stay in your little peace of paradise? 1st rate hosts! The home was well supplied with necessities and more. The pool was so enjoyable! Secret Garden Paradise 5+ Stars
If there were more than 5 stars, I would give them to this amazingly beautiful place! It is like a secret garden paradise behind the beautiful entry gates, very private, relaxing and Zen. The plants, trees and flowers were breathtaking, along with the ocean views inside and out. We were in awe of the turtles on the very "private" beach out front, the pool/hot tub were in constant use when we were there. Our family of 9 consisted of 3 generations ages 12-64, we were celebrating 2 HS graduations, a 40th B-Day and an upcoming 45th anniversary and 65th B-Day. We loved this special property, there was plenty of room for all of us to be together yet have our own private space when desired. Our family all immediately felt very at home there. The home was very spacious, spotless, and well equipped, the Hawaiian decor was beautiful, the bedding was very nice. Oh, and the outdoor shower in the principal bedroom bath was so enjoyable! Dean and Katherine were awesome hosts, they went above and beyond to help make our vacation even more special, they were both easy and fun to work with and get to know. We highly recommend Hale Laulea, it was an absolutely wonderful experience, we will always treasure the memories we made there. I hope to visit again, hopefully during whale season! Aloha!

A week in paradise
I can't say enough about how much we loved our time at this very special place. The location is close to shopping, beaches, restaurants, and a park with tennis courts and basketball. The view is spectacular! We often sat out front to watch the turtles come in and out of the ocean and enjoyed the relaxing hammock. The kids also loved swimming in the pool each afternoon after a day at the beach. The home is warm and inviting with amazing views from the master bedroom and a well-stocked kitchen. Dean and Katherine go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need for your stay. They are the best hosts we have ever had!

Webster's Vacation
June 19 - 26, 2021 My first time renting a home. Actually, the first vacation for the entire family, which consisted of myself (grandma), my son, daughter in law, 3 grandkids. The home was perfect. On the beach and a pool. The kids swam all day. Actually, two of them really learned to swim and as the week progressed felt very comfortable in the pool. It was time for the rest of us just to relax. This location is a few blocks from shopping which includes food, nail salon, Starbucks and even a movie theater. Everything is very close, and yet the home's location is very private. In fact, a vehicle is really not needed. The real magic is the turtles. It is truly amazing. The huge turtles come to the beach to rest in the evenings. One evening we counted 14!!! In the morning they return to the ocean. It was lovely - greeting them every evening and waving goodbye each morning. Katherine and Dean live on the property in a separate home. They were a delight. Very helpful and yet we didn't see them very often. I will return, we all loved our first vacation in Maui!!! Gloria Webster

Beyond Expectation

Icing on the cake
You already know west Maui is great. But you may not know Kihei is among its driest locals and a charming Hawaiian beach town. It has much more street life and local culture than nearby Wailea or Makena. Our teenaged kids loved Kalama park two blocks away with its myriad sports and water activities. They paired their play there with nearby food trucks and Local Boys shaved ice. This property is very accurately represented by the pictures on the VRBO site. It is charming, beautiful and impeccably maintained. It is fully appointed with toys and gear allowing you to enjoy the beach and water around you. We always made sure to be back home to our west facing beach front for sun sets that were the most amazing we’ve seen. Whales beyond the reef and turtles on the beach usually added to the natural beauty of the setting. Our hosts could not have been more gracious, helpful and accommodating. They made sure we had everything we wanted to make for a great vacation. They clearly take great pride in this property and satisfaction in ensuring that their guests enjoy it. Needless to say, we hope to be back soon.

Wow, Just Wow
I cannot put into words how special this home is. You feel lost in a little piece of a much larger paradise here. Dean and Katherine are so welcoming, kind, and although they stay on the property in their Ohana, you would NEVER know they’re here. We are checking out today but really, really, don’t want to leave. Paradise on Halama Street (Kihei, Maui)
This property was a home away from home. Plenty of space, all the extra amenities really made this feel like our own paradise. The beach access, the pool and hot tub, the large kitchen and dining for hosting made our experience. The property has plenty of space for a small family reunion or just a private getaway for two. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return.

A little piece of Heaven in Kihei
We had a lovely stay at this oceanfront home. The hosts, Dean and Katherine, are kind, accommodating, helpful and would love them to be our neighbors for life. The home comes complete w sunsets, water equipment, pool and hot-tub as well the living space being extremely comfortable. Close to parks, grocery stores....basically anything you could want or need. Pretty awesome to hear the ocean every minute of every day which happens in this lovely home.

Perfection Does Exist
This beautiful house is all you need for an epic vacation in Maui. Standing in the family room looking out back, we saw the gorgeous blue ocean with waves crashing at our backyard and no one else in sight on our private beach. Looking behind us, we saw an inviting, heated pool and hot tub protected by the afternoon winds. The master bedroom view could literally justify the entire cost of our stay. Simply breathtaking. Falling asleep to waves from the ocean and waking to waves from the ocean was just amazing. The view upon sunrise from the comfy king size bed was worth it all. But there were still more amenities: kayaking daily to see whales (2 man and 1 man kayaks provided), along with snorkel gear, paddle board and sunscreen and a raft for the pool. The home is nothing short of spectacular. Katherine and Dean are extraordinary hosts, so welcoming and helpful. We took daily walks along the public beach, we walked to town for dinner, coffee, shopping and just for exercise. This home is perfectly located, it was beyond our wildest dreams for our second honeymoon in Maui. Could not recommend this home more enthusiastically.

Hale Heaven--Mother Nature at work!
This lovely property and hosts Katherine and Dean deserve much more than the "best vacation ever" reviews that abound on the web. The Vietnamese Bhuddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh, has said, "When we recognise the virtues, the talent, the beauty of Mother Earth, something is born in us, some kind of connection, love is born." My family and I just returned from a stay at this beautiful home on Halama Street, and we are all richer for the experience. We reconnected with each other, with the beauty of nature, and made new connections with Katherine and Dean. The back lawn, bordering the ocean, was truly a place we discovered the virtues, the talent and the beauty of Mother Earth. Each day, whales could be seen breaching and slapping in the bay. Every evening the sun would kiss the ocean in the most splendid colors, and the sky would be lit with brilliant pinks, oranges, blues and purples. Giant sea turtles would make their way onto the beach for evening rest. The night-ocean would lull us to sleep with its calming rhythm of waves lapping on the beach. It was truly restorative for mind and body! Our family came away rested and renewed. The house was immaculate and finely furnished with anything and everything we could need. The pool was relaxing, and the ocean swimming was superb. We really appreciated that Katherine and Dean were close by and only a text away--for those last minute consults on where to dine, which grocery stores had the best poke, where to find some great walking and running paths, and just for some wonderful conversation. When we left, we felt more like ohana than vacationers! Great place, great hosts, and even though I have no idea when we will be going back to Maui, this is absolutely the first place I will check for a reservation. Destination 70th Birthday
For a three generation family vacation this property can't be beat. Those who loved the pool just stepped out the living room slider onto the pool deck. It was sheltered from the wind, totally private and beautiful. The media room served well as quarters for the 13 and 10 year old. They felt special having their own space (yet close enough to mom and dad). The family members who preferred the ocean for swimming just walked out the dining room sliders, across the grass, down the lava steps to the beach and were in the water. We used the available kayak, paddle boards, surf board and boogie boards. There was good snorkeling towards the reef. We never saw another soul on "our" beach, only the nightly sea turtles who crawled up to sleep among the rocks RIGHT below us. Spectacular views, sunsets outside, lovely artwork, comfy beds and furniture inside. I don't hesitate to recommend Halama St home to you. It was my best birthday vacation ever and there was something for everyone ages 6 months to 71 years.

Dream Family Vacation
Our family of six, including four children (three teenagers), just had one of the all-time best family vacations at Dean and Katherine's home on Maui. The home is beautiful and located in an extremely convenient location on the island, just a few blocks from quality restaurants, supermarkets, a park, and a commercial stretch. It's a very short drive to some of the popular Maui beaches, but to go there is simply to mix up the experience, as it is often hard to justify leaving your own backyard. Because there you will find a gorgeous ocean, with glorious sunsets, and every night sea turtles would make their way to the beach right outside the house to sleep. We spent every morning in the ocean, either swimming, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing or snorkeling, and every afternoon in the pool, just relaxing. The icing on the cake was the hospitality of Dean and Katherine, who were ideal hosts - happy and eager to provide advice on anything they could, without creating any stress about living in their beautiful home. They were incredibly gracious and genuinely just wanted us to enjoy our vacation. If and when we return to Maui, there is no other place we would ever consider staying.

Home in Kihei
We feel so lucky to have taken our family to this sweet Halama Street bit of paradise for two summers now. We love the location in Kihei. Lots to do there and reasonable drives to just about anywhere else on the island. The property itself is the real star. Sunsets over the water every night. Coffee over the water every morning and sea shell hunting in the backyard. And nearly every night, a veritable turtle parking lot on the beach. It is so special to experience the sea turtles washing themselves onshore to sleep by the warm rocks for the night. You simply can’t find this kind of closeness to the ocean just anywhere. Beautiful grounds and a wonderful pool and hot tub that are sheltered from the afternoon winds. As a family with young kids the convenience of a kitchen, laundry, pool and three full beds and baths makes vacation so much more relaxing for us. The owners are wonderful and welcoming. Dean and Katherine are helpful but unobtrusive and generally lovely. They genuinely love sharing their home their beautiful home. Can not recommend highly enough!

Five Stars all the way!
From the moment we drove through the gate we were enchanted with this place! We were immediately greeted by Katherine and Dean and they could not have been more welcoming. They went out of their way to help with recommendations on hiking, snorkeling and dining. On top of that, they brought us fresh fruit every morning from their own trees located on the property. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need, including a grill on the lanai. The beds were comfortable and each room has its own A/C. The bathrooms were wonderfully updated and, I must say, my favorite part was the outdoor shower! We also enjoyed watching the magnificent sunsets every evening from our lounge chairs. Our son always chose the hammock! The setting was peaceful and serene - just what we were hoping for. We even spotted a few turtles making their way onto the beach, not something you see every day. We loved that the home was so close to everything. It was even within walking distance of shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this place. It was perfect all around. What an incredible home and property! I just can't say enough about the gorgeous setting and absolutely lovely home. The waves lulled me to sleep every night from the stunning master bedroom and we had the most incredible kayak experience right off the property - humpback whales surfaced about 50 ft in front of us! We loved the turtles. We loved searching for shells on the beach. We loved the quiet, private vibe on the grass looking out at the ocean, the pool, enjoying the jacuzzi & a swim in the pool every evening. The house is beautiful and so well appointed. Thank you Dean and Katherine for your hospitality and for sharing your beautiful home. Can't wait to return!

Authentic Ocean Front home with the "WOW" factor
If you want a true authentic Hawaiian feel vacation, then look no further than Hale Laule'a. We LOVED this quiet, private gem of a gorgeous home, situated in sought after, yet non-pretentious, Kihei. This colourful and warmly decorated home in my opinion boasts spacious areas (easily handles 4-5 cooks in the kitchen) with breathtaking sweet surprises around every corner. It’s an original bungalow style (my dream and favorite style), yet modern amenities for ease of living with vaulted beamed ceilings in every room. The property (huge, lush and tasty with fruit trees everywhere), it’s view (to die for), it’s private beach (turtle spying at night, clean, easy entry for your snorkel, paddle board, kayak, and swimming desires), it’s walkability factor to anything you need (groceries, shops, surf rentals, movie theatre, ice cream, recreational parks with tennis/basketball, skateboarding and other gorgeous beaches) is perfect. Evenings were spent in the colourful/iridescent enormous hot tub/spa, and the pool so refreshing and private. There is plenty of gear for water sport and recreation. Lastly, the hosts were the icing on the cake. They are generous, full of information about the area and island, easy-going, super chill, fun, funny and lovely. Worth every penny and no doubt, we will be back! Aloha!

Spectacular Waterfront Accommodation
I have already been there twice.....The property is absolutely beautiful with lovely gardens (including many different types of fruit trees). It has a wonderful lanai overlooking the ocean, where you can enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast while looking out for turtles and whales, of which we saw many. Speaking of turtles, every evening many turtles head up to the beach right in front of the house. One night we counted 15 of them--absolutely fantastic. The house itself is adequately furnished and can comfortably sleep 9 - 10 people. I was in the Media Room, which is not in the main house, but just on the other side of the swimming pool. The room has a Murphy Bed, which was extremely comfortable. All of the other rooms have at least a Queen Sized bed. The kitchen is well equipped, with everything you need to slap together a gourmet luau, there is also a huge barbeque on the lanai. It is centrally located in Kihei, and Foodland is a short walk away. There are also tennis courts just a couple of blocks away. Fantastic property---I will return.

Absolutely spectacular - couldn't be better!
Talk about oceanfront magic! This gorgeous home spills onto a spacious green area and quiet sandy beach for the ideal indoor/outdoor experience. We walked and swam along the sandy beach in front of the house. In the mornings we took the kayaks from the house into the ocean and saw humpback whales - wow! In the evenings we could eat outside under the stars and their place - so peaceful and beautiful. The lemons from their trees fabulous. The house is spacious and each of the rooms are exquisite. Only a couple of short blocks away are tennis courts, basketball courts, shopping and restaurants but in the house you feel like you are in old hawaii surrounded by coconut trees, orchids, a gentle breeze and sunshine.

Dean and Katherine have been visiting Maui since the '70s and finally made the move to live here in 2018. Our oceanfront property is on half an acre and has both a main larger oceanfront home with the pool and hot tub as well as, at the street end of the property, a two bedroom cottage. We live in the oceanfront home for most of the year, so it's only available for a limited number of weeks each year. Send a message if it's not showing as available. Most of our return guests rent directly from us, which is partly why the number of VRBO reviews has decreased recently. If you rent our house, we move into the on-property cottage. So we'll be around if you have questions or problems during your stay, but the property is large and private enough that you'll never see us if you don't need our help. We know Maui well and are happy to make recommendations and do our best to make your stay the best it can be.

Why they chose this property

This property is absolutely stunning and we looked at many other oceanfront homes before deciding to buy this one. Between its location on a small sandy beach, as well as stairs down from our front grass to easily access the ocean, to the comfortable, relaxed and calming layout of the house and gorgeous tropical, bright garden, we can't think of a more amazing place to spend time.

What makes this property unique

It has become very difficult to obtain permission to legally rent your home on Maui to short-term visitors. Our home is one of a small number which are legally licensed to do this (BBMK 2019/0003) and one of an even smaller number that sit directly on the ocean. Our views and set up are true paradise.
